Ask to Join The Life of Highschoolers

Laura shook his hand gingerly, and when she let go and retracted it, she said thank you. She was happy to get to know him, even if it was only a bit more. Suddenly, the loudspeakers outside went off.

"All students, please report to the gym to set up for the formal. All students, to the gym." the secretary's voice boomed over the speakers.

"Shall we go?" she said, standing up and zipping up her jacket.

Even heard the announcement as he got he turned to Laura with a nod before he stood up from the bench.

"Ready when you guys are." Even said simply, as again he had put his mind off the formal to come to focus on simply setting up for it here and now.

Upon hearing the announcement made by the secretary, Dylan ran a hand through his hair and grinned at everyone. "I'm ready, as well." He stood next to Lis and smiled warmly at her, placing a hand softly on her shoulder. I can't wait to spend the evening with her. It's gonna be a great night.

Lis gently looked over her shoulder at Dylan, a smile on her face as she began to walk to the gymnasium. As she entered the gym, there was obviously a bit of work to do. Students and teachers were already setting up ribbons and tables and lights. Lis went over to help with the streamers and such, conversing with other girls as she did so.

Dylan followed Lis, gesturing for the others to do the same as he stepped into the gym. He immediately got to work, hanging up colorful lights and hanging streamers at the top of doors. He helped with moving the heavy equipment such as speakers for the dance, the disc jockey station, and the foldable tables for the snack booths. While Dylan worked, he occasionally glanced back at Lis, who seemed to be having a fun time helping as well, prompting him to smile.

Even followed Lis and Dylan as he entered the gym and went to work as he began to set up the tables that had been laid out with plates, utensils and cups for the snacks and of course drinks that would be served at the event. Even helped bring out a large punch bowl with others as he set it on the main table.

Even added on to this as he laid out the remaining tables that had yet to be set up while helping around here and there with whatever was needed of him.

Laura was excited for the night to come, knowing her surprise was yet to be brought upon her "friend", Even. While daydreaming about the possible outcomes, she climbed a ladder to reach to the ceiling. She was handed a lightweight disco ball, that was remote controlled to spin. She opened the panel, and being a geek in technology, she messed with the wires so the disco ball would rotate on it's own. There was a built in light bulb that would project the like.

Dylan held an empty 5-gallon beverage cooler atop each shoulder as he made his way to a white table covered with a red sheet, setting both of them down in a 1x2 array. He dusted his hands off and looked around, seeing if there was anything else he could do. Suddenly, a teacher who was also helping set up the gymnasium for the formal waved and called out, "Hey, Dylan! A little help over here!" Dylan looked over and smiled, nodding as he made his way to the teacher. Together, the two helped hang yet another large speaker from a metal cord in the ceiling. The teacher grinned at Dylan and nodded in thanks, and the student nodded back. Dylan directed his gaze to Lis and headed toward her, gently tapping her shoulder. "Yo. Anything I can do?" He smiled warmly.

Even had taken a moment to set up some decorations by the doors as well as some fluff to the tables along before he took note of Laura as she climbed the ladder to set up the disco ball.

Even hoped he'd make a good impression on Laura and give her a fun night to remember. That's all he cared about.

With that Even moved to the stage and began to set up additional decorations for the dance later tonight. Even helping to set up a DJ station as one had been invited her to help provide music for the event, which requited him and another student to help set up. Though it had not been too much a hassle.

When the disco ball was finished, Laura made her way down the ladder, and looked around the gym. The basketball hoops had been rolled up, and streamers hung from the ceiling. Laura was then tapped on the shoulder and asked to drill in some different colored tiles that would be lit up by spotlights hanging from the ceiling. She took the piece of machinery, and while someone held down the neatly aligned tiles, she drilled them into the ground.

Lis gazed at Dylan over her shoulder as she finished pinning one of the last few streamers up. She smiled, turning around. "Wanna help me tie balloons?" she grinned. Near her was a helium pump, with several flat balloons laying limply beside it. Lis crouched down, kneeling on her knees as she began filling up the first balloon. "I was told that there needs to be about 35 balloons... but, I think we should make, like, 60. The more the merrier," the girl said a determined glint in her eye as she finished tying the first one. It dared to float away from her, but she grabbed it quickly, tying a ribbon that was holding onto a weight on it. She looked up at Dylan, smiling once more.

Dylan grinned and nodded, grabbing a handful of balloons and blowing them up with helium before tying them. He then tied a piece of string and weighed it down before doing the same with the rest. After a little more than half an hour, the two were done, and Dylan turned to Lis, a smile on his face as he offered a high five. "That was quicker than I expected. Good job!" He gazed at her, and his smile grew warmer. There were no words to describe how excited he was for tonight; he was more than ready to spend some quality time with Lis during the formal.

Soon, all the decorations were finished, and the kids were sent home around 3:00 P.M. Laura, upon arriving home, was extremely excited for the formal with Even. She had the dress picked out with the help of Liz, and she put it on. It sparkled in the light of her closet. After putting on the dress, she went to the bathroom and grabbed a brush. She took her hair out of its ponytail, and started to brush through it, each stroke becoming ore gentle. Then, once finished, she curled it up with a curling iron. With the curls, it rested just below her shoulders, and she was glad she didn't have bangs to disrupt what she thought was pretty. She put on a bit of makeup. Her eye shadow was only slightly darker than her skin, the eyeliner simply to light up her eyes, and the lip gloss simple and colorful.

"Okay, you can do this. You can do this..."

Even talked to himself in front of his bathroom mirror, as he put on the nice tuxedo that his mother had graciously invested their what of their funds they could. Even made a point to straighten and style his hair, as he wanted above all else to look presentable next to Laura. Laura deserved to have a special night without him looking like some bum. Even wanted this to be as enjoyable for her as he could make it...and hoped that maybe, for one night, he could move past his own life's shortcomings and have some fun.

"You look so handsome darling."

Even turned to the voice of her mother; her tired eyes from a long's day work seemed to shine as she smiled at him. Even said nothing, as he kept his gaze away while he had a sullen tone.

"Y-yeah. I'm sure you'd say that. Hope Laura thinks so...I-I mean I hope she thinks I look passable." Even said with a blush as his mother chuckled a bit before she moved to Even to give him a hug.

"Don't worry so much about whether you are pleasing her or not. Just have fun with her, that is the best thing you can do. I'm sure she would just appreciate that." His mother explained as Even was silent before he smiled and hugged her back as he understood her point.

"Thank you, that means a lot to hear."

Laura, after touching up he look, put on some heels, and stumbled to her room. She took the flowers in the face, with her, and immediately started to walk to school. Although she was in heels, she got the hang of it quickly, and started to speed walk with her flowers. There was no time to waste, for she knew Even liked nature, and these flowers were already starting to wilt a bit.

Even also began to quickly made his way to the school as he did not want to keep Teiran ready. Even took the liberty of bringing with him a special home-crafted item that he kept in a small box within his pants pocket as he figured he needed to give Teiran something for the occasion. Even if the item itself was nothing expensive, he hoped the charm of a home made item would be enough to at least amuse Teiran and act as a stand in for when he had the funds to buy her an item of monetary value she really deserved.

As Even approached the entrance of the school, he caught a figure moving along in heels along the opposite sidewalk and upon scanning he saw it had to be Teiran. Though she was a bit far for him to get a good look at her outfit Even waved her down all the same to let her know he was there.

Laura saw Even wave to her, and she didn't wave back. Instead, she ran over to him, as fast as she could in heels, and shoved the flowers at him, unsure how to give somebody flowers without it looking like she was trying to punch you. Her cheeks and nose suddenly turned red, and she looked at his forehead, so it only looked as though she was staring into his eyes. She was to nervous to look there, though.

"I-I got these for you..." she stuttered.

Even smiled as he saw Laura come to him...though was surprised and had a mild blush when she walked right up to him and pressed some flowers close to him. As Laura looked into his eyes, or rather it appeared she was given the angle that Even saw it from, his own blush only grew as he gazed back at the flowers and took a moment to view them before he accepted.

"They're...they're beautiful. Thank you..." Even said, and he honestly meant it as his admiration for the pretty flowers was clear. Though Even saw that since Laura gave him a gift, he felt it was only fair to do the same.

Even reached into his pocket and pulled out a home-made bracelet; decorated with rainbow colors that contained a design of Laura with a smile and waving to whoever would look at the braclet. There were also some words similarly engraved on the opposite side that read as followed...

May you have a special day everyday, because you are special and deserve nothing less.
"I-I apologize. I didn't have much money to buy a better gift, so I made this. I'll be sure to make up for it when I get the money needed..." Even said, as in spite of the hard work on it he felt Laura deserved better and something less "cheap." Though he had yet to see how she'd react to it as he held it out for her to look at.

Laura took it gingerly from his hands, and looked it over. She smiled after seeing it, and slipped it on her wrist. A little big, but nothing common. She stretched her arms out, and wrapped them around the ginger-haired boy.

"Thank you." she said.

She never had received a gift from somebody such as this before, so it may not have a been a big deal, but unto herself, it was a big deal.

Soon a blush that nearly matched his ginger hair covered Even's face as he felt Laura give him an unexpected but far from unwelcomed embrace as Even was stunned stupid for a moment before slowly he moved his hands around Laura and returned the hug in kind.

It felt...good, to have Laura give him a hug. She'd been the first to do it outside of his mother and the warmth felt comforting. Even welcomed the embrace for a minute longer as he even offered a small smile though the blush remained.

"Y-your welcome." Even said, as he tried to mask the stutter but failed.

Dylan adjusted his black necktie as he walked along the sidewalk leading to school, smiling to himself just the slightest bit childishly. Of course, who could blame him? He was incredibly excited for the event to unfold, especially since he would be spending the next few hours with her. The outfit he had chosen for the formal was stylish but simple: a black suit with a white dress shirt and black necktie underneath paired with black slacks and well-polished dress shoes. Dylan finally arrived at the entrance and noticed Even and Laura, seemingly embracing each other in a hug. He smiled and headed toward them, treading his steps softly however, so as not to disturb their "moment".

Lis had giddily made her way home, immediately tossing her bag aside and going straight to her bedroom. Gently, she grabbed the dress from her door, and began "assembling" the outfit onto her. The first piece, being the white, sleeveless top, fit her nicely. The skirt did the same, complimenting the top, all while revealing the slight part of her stomach between the pieces. Lis grinned as she looked into the mirror on her wall, cocking her head to the side. Hastily, the girl moved onto her hair. Carefully, she weaved it into a few braids that winded back into a wavy ponytail. She let a few strands of hair fall by her ears, as well as some being swept to the side near her forehead. Then, Lis quickly flicked makeup on - a subtle darkening of her eyelids with eyeliner and mascara. To finish off, Lis put the glittery choker on, and the prettily decorated heels as well.

Lis gave herself a once-over before exhaling and grabbing a small hand-purse that held her phone. Then, she head outside to walk to the dance. Her parental figures hadn't been home at the moment, which didn't bother the teen too much. Before she knew it, Lis was walking up the path to the building. She had already spotted Dylan, and a soft smile grew on her face. Her eyes traveled to Even and Laura, where she happily continued making her way to her date. When she stood before Dylan, she looked up at him with a happy smile. "You look really handsome," she told him.

Dylan was just a few steps away from the couple when he heard footsteps coming in his direction. He turned to see Lis walking up to him, and hearing her compliment, smiled warmly as he gazed upon her. "You look great too," The teen said as he pat his date's head softly a few times. His response could be considered the understatement of the century. In his eyes, Lis looked absolutely stunning, and Dylan's smile grew warmer as he put a gentle arm around her shoulder. "So, wanna wait for Even and Laura, or do you want to go in first?"

Lis looked down, face flushing. She let her head rest softly against his shoulder before looking up at him to respond. "Let's head in. We can meet up with them again," she said, gazing ahead at the entrance to the school. She happily sighed before slipping out from under Dylan's arm, a playful smile on her face. The girl instead took his hand with her own, and led the pair into the gymnasium. The room was totally transformed, and was decked out in fun decorations. Several pairs of students were already in the gym, chatting and laughing with each other. Lis' eyes happily flickered as she anticipated the evening to come.

Dylan nodded and smiled once more as he was led into the gymnasium. Once he entered, he was instantly hit by a wave of booming music and laughing students, prompting him to smile. It's gonna be a great time. Dylan took a cup of fruit punch from the drink table and sipped as he explored the area, still hand-in-hand with Lis. Suddenly, the DJ took the mic into his hand and said, "Alright, gentlemen, go ahead and get your ladies, 'cause now we're going to start our first slow dance of the night." Soft, slow music began to play from the speakers as the guys rushed to get their dates, hurrying to the dance floor. Dylan smirked and set his cup down on a nearby table before glancing at Lis, a playful shine in his eyes. "May I have this dance, Ms. Fifer?" (prob best to wait for the others before continuing from here)

Ezren trudged through the dense crowd, attempting to wiggle towards drink tables. When he finally reached them, his eyes moved over the the fruit punch bowl, where two girls were mixing some odd fluids to the punch. They completely emptied out a bottle that read Kracken then stumbled off into the disco. Ezren was a little uneasy when poured the contraption into a red cup, but after a few sips - he decided that he enjoyed the beverage. And upon finishing his third cup, he really enjoyed it.
The drunken teen slid into the music, winking at confused girls, and shoving the guys who stood in his blurry vision. He was swaying through the gym - when he noticed his fellow classmate Dylan, holding his hand out towards another. He looked at the girl who stood beside him, it was Lis. When he looked at the two standing next to each other, an unknown fury stirred within him. Ezren ran towards Dylan, although it isn't recommended to dash through a dance party while drunk, as he'd stumbled before Dylan's feet. He looked up at him, then shoved him back, and shouted in a loud voice, "SHE'S MINEE!" His fists were in his pockets, but his face looked queasy. After a moment, he hurled into the nearest garbage can, then got back to his unsteady posture.

Laura backed away after the embrace had finished, and she grabbed Even's hand, intertwining his fingers into hers. She smiled, and started to walk.

"We should get inside." she said, stumbling up to the school.

Lis had just accepted the offering hand of her boyfriend when a familiar student's voice furiously shouted at the pair. Lis blinked in confusion, gaze quickly whipped towards the classmate. She was even more surprised to discover that it was Ezren who had spewed the protests, then quickly jerked to a nearby trash can, promptly vomiting. Lis stepped back, holding Dylan's hand tightly as she uneasily glanced up at him. When Ezren regained his stance, he seemed uneasy and in a swaying matter. Several students who were watching began murmuring or dispersing. Lis quickly scanned the room, and wasn't too surprised when the glass bowl containing punch grabbed her attention. The dance hadn't been up and running for too long, and barely a few drops remained in the container altogether. "Um..." the pretty teen stammered, gently letting her hand drop from Dylan's. She shared a quick glance with him before she hastily walked towards the bowl.

She leaned her face near the almost-empty bowl, taking a whiff. Immediately, she stepped back and wrinkled her nose. Definitely not punch, she thought, tucking one of the wavy strands of hair behind her ear. Lis made her way back to Dylan, eyeing Ezren warily. "Somebody spiked the punch. Like, a lot, if that's not obvious enough," she told him, gazing around the room to possibly spot other students who were woozily partying. Lis stifled a sigh - she really just wanted to spend a fun night with her date and her friends without interruptions.

Even also locked her fingers with his own as he gave a nod while he placed her flower in his tuxedo's pocket to put it on display as he walked with Laura inside as he tried to settle his nerves as he smiled at her.

"Let's."

Even entered inside where most people seemed to be having fun, though it appeared some guy by Lis & Dylan had thrown up. Even had to admit he didn't figure someone would have partied that hard this early.

Dylan turned to the source of the sudden outburst and saw... what looked like an intoxicated Ezren. After hearing Lis, he laughed and shook his head. Flashing an apologetic look toward his date, the teen sighed and put a hand on Ezren before leading him to the nearby bathroom. "Alright, bud. A little too early for this, don't you think? I'll help you find your date afterward." As the two walked along the hallway, Dylan couldn't help but feel a pang of pity; he didn't really see the need for alcohol in parties, especially since they had this kind of effect on people.

Laura saw Ezren in a doozy, and she immediately unlinked her hand with Even, and rushed over to Ezren. She knew immediately that he was drunk. Ezren grabbed ahold of his shoulders, and looked him in the eye.

"Ezren? Can you hear me?" she asked the drunken boy.

While Dylan and Laura accompanied Ezren to console his slurring stature, Lis stepped into the mass of dancing kids in attempt to find more drunken teenagers. The girl slipped and pressed past several who were dancing, until she found herself staring at a girl holding an empty bottle, a liquor brand clearly plastered on it. Lis let a small huff of air escape from her nose as she walked up to her. "Excuse me," Lis said loudly over the pumping music. She tapped the girl's shoulder, and in return, the girl whipped her head at Lis. "Can I 'elp you?" she asked, stumbling as she thrust her hands onto her hip. Another female beside her noticed the sudden interruption of dancing between her friend, and let herself into the conversation. Lis smiled, acting as laid-back as possible. "I know a place where you can get a better drink than - what is that... Kraken? You're gonna want something stronger," she said, crossing her arms. The two girls before her shared a skeptical glance before nodding with widening smiles.

Lis led the two girls out of the tangled mess of dancing. They stumbled and giggled as the followed the teen, whispering to each other. The trio continued the trek for new liquor, which was actually the principal's office. "There's, like, a ton of good drinks in the principal's desk. He's got a stash," Lis smirked, convincing them further as she led them into the office. In his chair sat the principal, filing through papers. He had explained during school that he'd be in his office if any issues occurred. The man looked up at Lis, then the other girls, then the empty bottle the first girl was still carrying. Lis sighed. "Sorry to disturb you, but there are several students scattered in the gym who are quite possibly very drunk." She nudged her head in the direction of the girls, who were curiously gazing around the room. The principal sighed. "Thanks for letting me know. As for the others... please make sure they don't wreak any havoc while the staff and I discuss the matter." Lis nodded and slipped out of the room, leaving the girls behind her as she shut the door. Then, she quickly walked down the hall, and into the gymnasium.

Ezren walked with his friend in a drunken slur. "Hey-BURRB- Dylan.." he whispered to him, "Don't tell Dylan this - but I'm dunk!" He sat on the sink table and laughed to himself. "I wonder if Santa can hear me..?" Ezren mumbled to himself. After another hurl in the trash, he walked slowly out of the bathroom, and into the gymnasium - where something caught his eye.
He ran in the direction of Lis, yelling "Such beauty!" In a flourishing tone. He ran past Lis and knelt on one knee to a confused student. She smiled oddly at him as he kissed her hand. "Dance with me, my love.." he smirked and started to tango with a rather perplexed girl.

Even walked by Laura, as he made a "one moment" motion to her as he walked over to the drunken Ezren as he began to harrass Lis once more. While Even knew this was a result of the alcohol talking something needed to be done as he went to place a hand on his shoulder.

"Alright prince charming. You are a bit too drunk to party now. I think it's better if you go call up a ride home to sleep it off." Even said as he tried to resolve this peacefully. Given Laura was here, he did not want to ruin her night with an altercation but for Lis' sake something needed to be done.

Lis, certainly startled by Ezren once more bursting into frame, raised an eyebrow as the boy proclaimed, "Such beauty!" Her eyes followed him as he ran right past her, and began spewing admiration to an innocent bystander. Lis couldn't help but lightly chuckle as Even swooped in to rescue the girl, nudging Ezren with suggestions to go home. She brushed off her skirt as she entered further into the gymnasium, eyes darting around for Dylan. Maybe he couldn't quite catch Ezren from escaping the bathroom, the girl thought with a smile. She noticed the bowl of punch was "re-stocked" once more. Walking over to the table, she grabbed a cup and filled it with the ladle, then leaning on the end of the table with fascinated eyes. Lis curiously examined the dance floor. A popular tune was ringing throughout the room, and students were eagerly dancing along with it. The girl continued to take small sips from the cup as she admired the decorations they had put up only hours ago.

After watching Ezren hurry out of the bathroom, Dylan sighed and followed him, at a much slower pace. Arriving at the gym a few minutes later, he saw the scene unfold: the drunk teen attempting to dance with a puzzled girl as Even tried to convince Ezren to go home. After a bit of swiveling, Dylan found Lis near the dance floor and made his way toward her, calling her name to get her attention. He smiled as soon as he got to her side and gently took her hand in his own. "That was quite an ordeal, wasn't it?" As the current song that was playing progressed, the DJ got on the mic once again, and his suave tone of voice returned. "Alright, another reminder: right after this song, we're gonna have our first slow dance! Go ahead and find your dates!"

Lis' eyes followed Dylan as he approached her and took her hand in hid own. Lightly, her ears flushed as she finished the last drop in her cup. She tossed it in the trash bin that was near the edge of the table. "It wouldn't be a high school dance without some sort of interesting event," she agreed with a smile. Lis' head turned to the DJ as he announced that the slow dance would be beginning soon. She redirected her gaze at Dylan. "There's only a few several seconds left of this song. Care to slow dance with me?" she smiled - sort of a smirk - and tilted her head, looking up at him curiously.

Dylan nodded, smiling warmly as well. "It certainly wouldn't." He turned to face her as she asked her question, and the teen gently took his date's hand as his smile widened. "It'd be an honor." The song was concluded, and slow, soft music began to play from the speakers as couples swayed together on the dance floor. Dylan led Lis to the area as well before stopping and standing a small distance in front of her. He gently put his left arm around her back, hoping not to make things awkward, as his right still grasped her hand. "Ready? If you feel uncomfortable, just tell me."

Lis smiled as Dylan led her to the floor, noting that several other couples were doing the same. “Ready? If you feel uncomfortable, just tell me,” he told her, arm carefully set on her back as he held her left hand with his right. Lis laughed. “You’re fine,” she told him, placing her free hand on his shoulder. As the music picked up pace, the pair was easily able to follow the beat. A smile on her face, Lis sighed. “I’m not very great dancer - despite being in sports that literally include dancing,” she laughed. “So, I’m sorry if i step on your foot, or something.” Lis looked up at her date.

Dylan laughed as well as he returned Lis's look. "No worries." As the song progressed, the couple silently swayed to the music along with other pairs before the teen spoke up once more, talking quietly. "So, this is the first, actual romantic thing we've done so far in this relationship; I have to say, I'm enjoying it. A lot, actually." Dylan smiled as he continued to gaze into his date's eyes. This is just a dance. Not like there's anything super formal or important about it. And yet.. spending this time with Lis made it feel like an amazing and unforgettable experience, and it wasn't even over yet.
