During Nintendo's Treehouse Live after their E3 Direct gameplay was shown off for the up-coming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games. The segment of gameplay was from the Wild Area where we could see Pokémon roaming around and the weather changing (which also affects the weather conditions in battle). You can check out the footage for yourself below and we've also detailed anything of note mentioned throughout the video!

First off, a brand new gym leader of the Galar region was revealed! This gym leader is called Nessa, a Water-type gym leader. Her calm and collected attitude hide a competitive spirit and indomitable will that becomes apparent when she overwhelms opponents in battle with powerful Water-type moves.

Next up, we learnt more about the Wild Area, home to a variety of Pokémon (even those of a much higher level than your team) and split into several different sections. We were also shown how the bicycle works in these game and how it seamlessly transitions when you approach the water’s edge to allow you to surf across water.

It was also revealed that players both locally and online will be able to explore the Wild Area together in co-op. Players can interact with one another to give items, trade Pokémon and battle. Even if you're not playing co-op the online, the new Y-Comm item will show you stickers to represent achievements that your friends have accomplished while playing their own games.

Afterwards we were given a look at Max Raid Battles, where four players join forces to take on a wild Dynamax Pokémon. You'll be able to use the Y-Comm to find players to take on these battles with you. Each battle has a ten turn limit. Even if you're knocked out during the battle, you'll still be able to cheer on your fellow trainers. If you're victorious all participating players will have a chance to catch the Dynamax Pokémon and also earn items for their hard work.

It was also confirmed during the show that the PokéBall Plus will be compatible with Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, however it won't work as a controller. The device will allow you to transfer Pokémon to it and take them on a walk, which will result in unspecified benefits. For those of you who have yet to buy or sync your PokéBall Plus with Pokémon Let's Go, doing so with Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield will allow you to get Mew in whichever game you connect it with.

Finally, Junichi Masuda confirmed how Pokémon HOME will connect to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Pokémon HOME, being a new cloud service app that will launch in 2020, will also connect with Pokémon Bank, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu!.

In his statement Masuda confirms that only Pokémon in the Galar Pokedex will be transferable to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, meaning that many Pokémon will not be available in the games. This choice is to help the developers put more time and effort into perfecting the Pokémon that do appear in the games and also means they have time to focus on other elements of the games.

Stay tuned for more news as it comes!

Doesn't touch the Galar Pokédex/Pokémon Home information with a ten foot pole

I'm really loving the little additions shown off in this Treehouse footage, specifically the bike seamlessly transforming into a water scooter thing and the Y-Comm. It feels like they've taken concepts from Gen V/VI and gone a much larger step further, which is excellent. I always enjoyed keeping track of what my friends were doing via the C-Gear.

Still finding myself enjoying the Galar region and new Pokémon more than the human characters, though. Professor Magnolia is the only human who's endeared me thus far (beyond the female player character's design). The Wild Area should be lots of fun to explore regardless of how big or small it is. ^^
