New in town!

Oh no. No no no. Already realizing the extreme type disadvantage that he was up against, he knew he couldn't throw up a Magnet Rise in time to avoid the Diglett's blinding speed. He muttered under his breath, "Darn it," And then said louder, "Oh hey, Probo? I think you're going to have to take one for the team. Sorry." The rock looked at him with wide eyes, already worried from what he said.

"Tch. Don't look at me like that. It doesn't mean we're not going out so quickly, though! Now, Probo! Let's give it a shot anyway! Magnet Rise!" Probopass, quickly turned back to face the small little pokemon, and made its little Noses start to spin, slowly at first, but then with increasing speed. The rock was starting to lift a little bit off the ground, about a centimeter or so, but getting higher slowly. Adressing Terrence, he said, "Let's see how fast that Diglett of yours is! Because from what I think, if Probo manages to properly Levitate, you're in trouble!"

Ethan knew he was taking a real gamble on this, as Probopass was his main pokemon to absorb most of his opponent's shots.

(Right here, I don't mind if you powerplay Mr. Nosey to see if he gets high enough. From what I figure, if he gets hit by a ground move, he dies.)

Amazed at the sight of the very much mineral-based pokemon lifting off the ground, Terrance had to push herself from the trance before Mr. Potato Head- er, Probopass- got any higher. The impatient Diglett, Cid, did this for her by calling "DIGLETT DIG!" in a very loud tone, effectively waking the geo-trainer from an awed stupor. She grinned and flicked down her goggles, responding confidently, "Right. You want speed? I'll knock y'all offa' the Richter Scale!" She balled her hands into fists and stomped the ground while announcing her next move, "EARTHQUAKE! Magnitude level 7.2, damage level eight!"

Cid took the command. He began to shake inside his little hole, the quaking soon felt all around and then directed straight at the rising Probopass. The Diglett's body continued to jiggle for one half of a moment and then was released from it's wracking grip, the mole-like pokemon declaring it's species title as the entire earthen floor around his opponent began to move drasticly. Rocks cracked, broke apart, split and forced up in spikes from the re-focused epicenter right underneath Ethan's Probopass. Terrance could feel the surface waves that poured off the attack and held her ground, those large chunks of rubble jabbing up to hit the floating target.

((Nah. I don't think I did much PP here.. I just figured he'd atleast get a foot or so off the ground in the time it took for Cid to attack. Dunno if the earth really would've gone that high though.. it's a toss up.))

When Ethan had heard her call out the attack, he had freaked out for a second and lost his balance from the sheer power of the tremor. Quickly getting up, he shakily said, "Woah, that's really s-s-strong..." Shaking his head a bit, he quickly refocused his attention on the battleground and saw the chunks of earth smash upwards into Probopass' bottom side. The panicked rock was sent pretty high through the air and landed on its side, causing a rather large shockwave to occur, due to it being extremely heavy.

"Oh, come, please, get up, you can still fight, Probo!" Ethan desperately said. But after watching the poor thing attempt to feebly right itself, he knew he was done for the battle. The poor thing was out cold from the impact into the ground. Normally, he would've been able to grin and bear it, but no dice. Letting out a resigned sigh, he said, "Well, you did your best, Mr. Potato. Come back." Taking out the ball from his pouch that the Probopass resided in, he enlarged it and sent the red beam of light at the unconcious mineral and returned it inside.

"I must say, that Diglett is really strong," Ethan murmured, and then added, "Buuut, I've still gotta keep up a positive attitude , 'cause if I get down, it's all over, sooo...it's your turn! Take the stand! Go, Valerie!" Ethan took out a Dusk Ball and from it came some sort of humanoid barbie doll. "Hehe, this is Valerie!" Ethan nodded towards the Smoochum, who winked winked and smiled rather flirtatiously towards the Diglett. "Anyway, I think that you should use...Copycat!" The humanoid pokemon started to jump up and down, and, mimicking the Diglett's cry with one of its own, and in which the earth started to tremble violently around the Diglett, no doubt having an effect on it.

Terrance frowned a bit. She had wanted to battle longer with probopass, but seeing the damage Cid had done it couldn't be helped. It was a good thing they were right next to a center. Still, pushing that thought from her mind, the brunette and her Diglett both saw what Ethan was about to use next.. and the trainer did a sort of half-stumble. He was going to use a cute, girly Smoochum in the fight? Ohh, that was just not cool.. the geologist's problem with harming pretty things caused her to miss the fact her opponent was attacking. The tables turned on poor Cid, he found himself being tumbled around inside his own little pit and turned to the human for directions but she was clearly stuck in conflict. That only served to stregthen his displaesure.

Hand running through messy brown hair and an expression of indecision stretched across her features, Terrance couldn't respond. Even when Cid gave an especially mad wail, the female did not budge or try to defend her pokemon. However, it was common knowledge- to her team and some few people- that she had a moral block when it came to adorable pokemon. So, Cid hadn't expected any different.. but that didn't make being beaten up by his own element any easier! The Diglett screeched for attention again and managed to snap his trainer out of it. "F.. Frustration!!" Terrance commanded, hesitating greatly and having allowed her pokemon to take the damage. Luck was on her side for that second; an enraged Diglett let out an ear-splitting yell of it's name and then barreled through the cracking rock around him to full throttle Valerie straight into the ground.

Elias watched with interest as they started to battle it seemed that Ethan had a clear lead when his Probopass had forced Terrance to recall her Cranidos with major damage. But now it seemed she had turned things around with Diglett, still it was unusual to see a rock and ground type after the other maybe she specialised or something. Elias had been impressed with the amount of unusual Pokemon so far he had never seen a Probopass before although so far he thought it perhaps one of the ugliest Pokemon in the world, defiantly not contest material.

Roselia had settled down now and was drinking mineral water from a flask. She watched the battle with interest to see which trainer would win. Elias smiled and sat back relaxing it was kinda nice not to be on stage for once but he defiantly needed to come up with some new combinations for next time.

"So Galain do you know where the first contest is going to be held." He asked quietly not to disturb the battling trainers. Roselia looked up with interest to see if there new rival could tell them anything they did not already know.

Galain was watching the battle with great interest. He certainly had never expected to see a Cranidos and an Probopass right from the beginning, mostly because he was never very good with using rock Pokemon in the first place.

He was also surprised at the Diglet. Even though it was such a small Pokemon that little Diglet was really strong. It just goes to show once again that size means nothing with Pokemon. He couldn't blame Ethan for losing that one.

"To be honest, I have no idea where or when the next contest is, though I was going to ask nurse Joy next time I see her. She probably knows."
Galain said as quietly as he could. He didn't want to distract the trainers in their battle.

"So are you going to use Roselia here in it? I bet its really good at preliminary rounds."
Galain whispered. He was already thinking about what Pokemon he would use, as well as what possible moves they could do.

As he watched Smoochum, he frowned. He knew that its evolved form, Jynx, was an Ice and Psychic type. But he had no idea what moves that Smoochum could do. For all he knew it wasn't even a double type. Once again he swore that he would have yet more to learn.

Even as the Diglett was rushing towards Valerie at high speeds, Ethan was prepared, and had an idea. Judging from Terrence's extremely slow reaction time to giving Diglett orders, she had a feeling she had something for cute pokemon. However, he had to rely on Valerie herself to make this work. The Diglett barreled right into Valerie, sending her in the air a bit, and causing her to land on her head.

As the pink pokemon righted itself up, it started running towards its mole-like opponent, but then tripped and fell. It's eyes started to tear up, and soon it was full-on sobbing into the floor. Of course, it wasn't really crying, but using Fake Tears, and being the great actor the little pokemon is, Ethan thought she pulled it off perfectly.

And so as to add fuel to the fire, Ethan shouted, "Now look what you've done! My poor baby!" He made as to seem like he almost stepped into the boundaries of the battle, but quickly righted himself back. As is, he was hoping to lure the Diglett in or something close to that so as to retaliate up close. And if that didn't work, he could always use something else.

So Galain did not know where the next contest venue was either, well in a way that was good at least he wasn't behind. He supposed they would have to ask Nurse Joy together, maybe there was even going to be on in this city. That would be rather convenient as it would give them time to train without having to spend days traveling.

"I may use Roselia but to be honest any of my Pokemon could give a preformace that would take me to the second round." Elias said with confidence but not with arrogance as he knew how good he was without having to add exaggeration. He started to run a finger threw his hair again as he keep watching the battle continue. He felt in Terrance position he probably would hit Valerie with a full strength attack it was a battle after all, but was she too soft hearted they would soon see.

"Of course before the next contest i want to try my hand at this 'poffin making' the local trainers are so proud of." Elias said wondering if Galain had heard or tried it yet. It was said that Pokemon liked poffins more, well he would see for himself.

Cid was not moved by the Smoochum's plight. It only proved to agitate him more.. what a weakling; crying after something so small as tripping! It sure hadn't seemed at all sad when he'd hit it. Terrance on the other hand was standing on the side-lines of the battle with what could only be described as guilty horror etched quite openly for anyone to see. The Diglett looked back at it's trainer pointedly as if daring her to quit the battle, being the bleeding heart she was. Terrance spotted the pushy pokemon's gaze and knew she was acting too sincere. But what could she do? The poor thing was bawling it's eyes out.. and Ethan seemed so worried! "Diglett diiig!" shouted Cid distraughtly, his trainer making a sound that was something akin to that of a heart breaking whilst raising one hand to point at Valerie.

"R-Rock.. Rock Slide." Terrance stated weakly, covering her eyes with one hand and face screwed up in a depressed way. That seemed to be enough for Cid, though, and the Diglett was back in action. Popping down inside his hole, a low rumbling began to sound which caused Terrance to order "-But not too hard!!"as an after-thought. However, the Diglett could not hear her (or did not want to hear her) and without warning five large boulders flung themselves out of Cid's open tunnel. Thrown straight at the Smoochum, making a currently weakened Terrance wince and cover her eyes with both hands.

"Tcha. So close," Ethan quickly reverted back to his originaly personality, and then added, "We were really close, too. Well then. Valerie, please get up. You did simply fabulous!" He exclaimed, and then added, "Don't worry Terrance, Smoochum is a little stronger then that!"

Abruptly, The Smoochum immediately picked itself up and took a quick bow, wiping away any excess tears from its eyes, but quickly stopped and turned to see incoming rocks attempting to smash her pretty little self, and exclaimed rather worriedly while starting to run away from the huge rocks, "Sm-Smoochum!"

"Hey, don't worry, Valerie," Ethan quickly said to calm her down and refocus her towards the incoming assault, and then continued to say, "Just use Psychic to turn that mean Diglett's attack back at it."

"Smooch-Smoochum!" The Smoochum immediately complied, turned around, faced the boulders, and the cute thing's eyes become to glow an eerie blue, focusing its gaze towards the rocks, which soon were engulfed in the same color, and stopped in midair, inches away from its face. Valerie then pointed its little stumpy arms outward, and cried, "Smoooooochuuuuum!" The rocks were then turned around in midair and sent back towards the sender of the Rock Slide, as if it was homing in on the Diglett.

((Sorry if there was a little PP. I assumed if Cid ran the rocks would follow because of accuracy.))

The Diglett popped out of it's hole to see if the attack had worked but was quite taken-aback to see the rocks flying straight for it at an alarming rate. "D-DIG!" Cid exlaimed before he popped down into his hole only to be chased by the flying rocks down into that underground lair. Once the bolders had vanished a loud crash sound was heard and then the whole din stopped. Terrance peered through her fingers only to move them and gasp slightly as Cid emerged back to the surface, clearly much worse for wear from that reversal. "Diiigleeett.." the pokemon mumbled, wobbling around and appearing to be on it's last leg.. so to speak. The geologist's face hardened and once more her fists became clenched, obviously becoming more serious now that she'd realized this cute little Smoochum could be a threat.

"Alrighty then.. Cid! Think you'kin fight?" The Diglett perked up some and listened in to his trainer's words, nodding once to show he could. "Good. 'Cause I need you t' give me another earthquake. This time bigger. Atleast level 8.5! Can ya' do it?" Cid scoffed then gave a confirming shout of "Diglett, dig!!" before acquiescing to Terrance and her surprisingly encouraging attitude. Bouncing around like a bobble-head doll, the ground began to move with it and soon a second earthquake had begun. This time clearly of higher strength, as even Terrance was having trouble riding out the ground waves. They began to center around Valerie, and the brunette couldn't help but still feel bad for harming the poor little dear, even as the floor started to crack further as if tiny tectonic plates were coliding all under the Smoochum.

"Not this time!" Ethan said into retaliation to the attack. Being a relatively frail Pokemon, he was sure an Earthquake that large would knock Valerie out cold, so his only option was, unfortunately, to stop the attack from hurting her all together. Though he liked to save this move for something monstrous about to hit her, Ethan didn't really have a choice here. Smoochum was already starting to get tossed about, so...

"Valerie, use Protect!" The Smoochum immediately covered its head, and a mystical green forcefield of sorts was covered around it, waiting out and nullifying the damage of the Earthquake. After the tremor was finished, Smoochum looked up again, and then turned towards its trainer to await further instructions.

"Alright, lets finish this thing off once and for all! Valerie, Ice Punch!" The Smoochum, complied, turned around, and started running towards the Diglett while its right hand was slowly being enveloped in frost and ice. "Now, attack!" Ethan told her, and the Smoochum jumped up in the air, flipped and was falling down towards the Diglett, full speed ahead. At this rate, she would end up Ice Punching Cid's forehead.

"Personally I haven't tried to make it yet. From what I heard its a bit like Pokeblock, but you make it in a completely different way." Galain said quietly to Elias. He had heard about Poffins before, but had not yet encountered it on his journeys in Sinnoh.

However his attention was fixed again on the battle. It had become quite an interesting fight between the Smoochum and diglet. But Terrance did not seem to be committed enough to beating it like she had with Ethan's first Pokemon. It seemed as if she had a thing for cute Pokemon. That certainly was a weakness, but he couldn't blame her for it.

It seemed as though Smoochum had a truly deadly combination of moves at its disposal. Not only could it attack with a nasty ice punch, but with moves like fake tears, protect and Psychic it had an awesome defense. Terrance would have do use some impressive and unexpected attacks to break through that.

"If we come up against each other in the first contest, you know i wont hold back. So if you intend to make the grand festival this year i suggest you entered the contests i don't." Elias said with a rather self satisfied expression on his face. It was clear he meant every word it fact he had said it to try and help Galain rather than offend him. It was the just the way it was but it tended to get on peoples nerves.

He spent hours each day training with his Pokemon on there contest moves and he was sure one day he would be holding the ribbon cup up Roselia standing by his side showering them both with a cloud of petals. He knew he was good perhaps not the best yet but he was getting better all the time and he would reach the top one day soon. He was so deep in thought he was almost missing the battle as diglet and Smoochum exchange attacks. He snapped out of his day dreaming to watch the battle you never know he might even learn something knew.

"However don't think I'm against you, i hope you make it all the way. Of course you wont be able beat me but you can try right." Elias said grinning at Galain as he ran a finger threw his hair. He turned back to watch the battle hoping to see something impressive from Terrance this time. If he was in her shoes he knew how he would counter but it would be intresting to see how she handled it.

Oh this was bad. Very bad. An ice move? Not good at all.. but she knew from experience the stupid Diglett wouldn't move even if she ordered it to. That little hard-headed pokemon had always refused to dodge, and it had never been an issue back in her hometown.. however, dodging sounded good right about now. "Cid, you better hang in there! Endure it!" As quick at it had been shouted the Diglett had already obeyed. Hunkering down into his pit a little and glaring up at the oncoming fist, he growled out his species as almost all pokemon did; "Diiiiiiglett!"

Buckling down into it's hole and preparing itself for the attack, once he'd been hit Cid's eyes squeezed shut in pain. Although he was still up, it wasn't much, an there was now a sporting bruise on his noggin. Terrance could practically see the Diglett falling over if this didn't end soon, so, to stop that from happening, the geologist threw up her last command. "Finale, Cid, round-house Rock Slide!" Just like that, the mole-ish creature popped down into the ground, out of sight but his tunnel still gaping. Two more pits opened up with surprising quickness, making a sort of triangle on the field, and not a moment later a rock was flung out of each opened hole. Cid undoubtedly being the culprit for the boulders flying at Valerie from three different angles.

"Hm. Three rocks coming from three directions," Ethan murmured to himself, "Can't use Protect yet...aha!" Ethan's eyes lit up and he jumped once in the air, knowing he got a good idea. Valerie didn't really care for Ethan's excited demeanor and said its species name with increasing alarm to alert Ethan to the fact that there were three rocks coming in to smoosh her face. "Oh, yeah. Sorry Valerie. I just really get carried away and tend to ramble a lo-"

"Smoochum!" Valerie immediately cut him off, and repeated what it said a few seconds ago. It was getting more panicked by the second.

"Oh, right. Valerie, we're going to stop like we had started it! Copycat" Smoochum agreed, nodding its head, and immediately its eyes began to glow, and three rocks of her own were ripped from the Earth in which they were hewn, and sent spiraling towards the three other rocks, causing them both to hit each and crumble from the others pressure.

"Now, lets finish this mean Diglett! Um, since he's underground, use Powder Snow on one of those holes! It should spread through the other two and get that Diglett!"

"Smoochum!" Valerie ran towards the closest hole, took a deep breath, and blew out a cold, ice laced wind into the hole, which, if Ethan was correct, would get the Diglett because the holes should be interconnected one way or the other.

Terrance had clenched her fists in annoyance when the Smoochum was able to counter the attack with equal force. Like it was nothing- how embarrassing! As the icy wind pumped down into the hole Terrance watched with her breath subconsciously held in agonizing suspense of what had become of Cid. The Diglett popped out of it's hole but there was something different about him.. he was frozen solid and obviously K.O'd. Terrance furrowed her brow and frowned, reaching into her vest pocket and pulling out a pokeball before she began to speak. "Yer Smoochum's really somethin," she commended Ethan, the pokeball opening and sucking in her fainted Cid with that bright red stream. She placed the pokeball on her hip idly, mentally noting to get the Diglett some poffins later for his good work.

The geologist got silent for a moment, unhooking another ball from her vest and looking away so her face was hidden. Not a moment later she was looking back at Ethan with a clever grin on her mug, the strange ball in hand. Clearly visible, it's commonly red top appeared to be bleached by the sun to make an almost orange color and a crack had been etched all the way along the crease where pokeballs were supposed to open. It resembled the icon on her shirt. "Show em, Malt!" she ordered valiantly, the odd ball flipping open in her palm and a very large Raticate popping out through a flash or crimson onto the field to face Valerie. The new pokemon announced "Rrrraticate!" happily to the Smoochum, a sort of greeting made clear as he waved one clawed-paw the way a human might.

Using Powder Snow on the holes in the ground was a good move. He had never actually seen a diglet leave its hole, making this move almost impossible to dodge. However, it was now two on two, and things were just heating up. However he wasn't sure how much longer the Smoochum could last. It had taken very little damage, but it had used a lot of moves. Galain wondered how much longer it could continue fighting at such a high level.

Suddenly a phone rang. It was his. Quickly he turned his back so as not to distract the battlers.
He talked for a while on the phone, and totally missed the opening for Raticate.
After a few minutes he put down the phone and put it back inside his bag. Then he sat down next to Breloom, Roselia and Elias again. For a while he didn't say anything, instead thinking over what he had just learned.

"I just found out when the next contest is. Its right here, in Jubilife City, and it will be starting in a week. I guess we may get to see which one of us is truly better soon after all" Galain said quietly to Elias. He wondered on what Pokemon he was going to use. For most of them he had already thought out a preliminary round, but which one would he use.

Then the answer came to him with ease.
"Have a good long rest Breloom. You've earned it" Breloom came back inside its Pokeball. Now he got out yet another Pokeball, and released the Pokemon from it.
Out of the ball came a much smaller Pokemon, almost the same size as Roselia, it was a round, ball shaped Pokemon with what almost looked like a crown for a head.
From it issued a small cute voice
"Togepi!!" Togepi cried out.

"Come on, we have to do some serious training If we want to win in the contests here." Galain told it, Although he doubted that Togepi knew what serious meant.

To the two battlers, Terrance and Ethan he said
"I'm sorry for leaving so soon, but I must practise for a contest that is coming up. Good luck to both you you on your journeys."

He looked over at Elias, but didn't say anything. He didn't need to. With that he turned around and headed deeper into the park, with a tiny Pokemon walking behind him

Elias sat watching with Roselia as Diglet got it self taken out of the battle by ice wind. It was strange to watch a battle like after all his intense contest training, it was weird to watch people trying to do damage than go for appeal. It reminded him of those day when he had battled for badges instead of ribbons. He was brought out of memory land as he realised Galain had stood up and was speaking.

"Hum in that case we will battle in a real contest." Elias said as he watched Galain walking away with his small egg Pokemon. No doubt he would only use that in the first round he doubted it was much of a battler. Then again he thought about Roselia size was hardly an issue he knew she could battle one on one with any Pokemon no matter the size. He turned to watch the battling trainers again and then turned around as well smiling.

"Lets go Roselia." He said as side by side they walked back into the Pokemon center. He needed to find out where the contest was going to be held in the city and when to register as well as the regional rules as well.

After seeing the frozen Diglett, Valerie took a bow, and winked at it as it returned to its storage unit. Hearing Terrence's comment, Ethan replied, "Really? Thank you! You're pokemon are just as wonderful!" Ethan then saw the odd Pokeball, and was transfixed by its odd looks, but then shook himself a bit and tried to focus on what was coming out.

"Gak!" Ethan flinched a bit when he saw the rat come out of the ball. Ethan had a fear of most rodents, as he saw them as rather creepy. Valerie, seeing this, attempted to look tough for her trainer, but after seeing the rat wave its hand, she immediately waved back, replying with its species name.Ethan immediately said to this act of friendship, "Don't get friendly with it! It could have rabies!" At that comment, the Smoochum turned towards him and stuck its tongue out.

Before issuing his command, he noticed that Elias and Galain were saying something about leaving. He waved as they left, and said, Alright, bye! I can't wait to watch you there!" Ethan waved and then turned back to the fight, and then said, "Um, I guess I'll be opening...Valerie, start off with, er, Icy Wind. Just don't touch it!" Valerie opened its mouth and exhaled freezing wind, like the same before, only clearer and faster, focusing its freezing breeze on the Raticate.
