Open The Region of Magnol (Discussion)

Your Magnolan Adventure Awaits!
The RP can be found here: https://pokecharms.com/threads/the-region-of-magnol.20629/

Magnol(Mag-nohl) is an original region created by me, Clockwise, and was inspired by areas of my home in the Southeastern United States. If you have a question about the region, please ask. I currently don't have any visual aids, so most information will be described during the RP.

I'm only accepting a select few quality applicants to participate so I won't become overburdened. This is my first time running an RP on Pokecharms, but I have several years of game mastering experience from tabletops.

Overview
The region of Magnol is one of opportunity that has a little something for everyone. Complete with a league of eight gym leaders, four contests, and four unique trials, this land invites competitive trainers from across the world to test their mettle in various ways. Every environment is available in at least a small portion, but new players must arrive through two possible entry points: Luxport in the south by sea via the S.S. Shellanna or Sonax City in the center by plane via Tailwind Airlines.

I will be GMing. In other words, I will be the one to decide how NPCs act and when they interact with players. This applies to trainers you might battle, contests, trials, and the different species of wild Pokémon you can meet in each area. Players can decide when wild Pokemon appear on their own, but I reserve the right to initiate unique encounters as I see fit. I will also be deciding what certain portions of the world look like, but I'm always open to creative suggestions.

The Magnolan League
The newly established elite four of the league have yet to crown their first champion. Unlike other regions, challengers may combat gym leaders in any order. Each leader has an appropriate test of skill for a trainer depending on the number of badges he or she possesses. This flexibility deviates from traditional linear journeys of other leagues and contributes to a more unique experience for every trainer. Once eight badges have been earned by a particular individual, they must still complete Magnol's Victory Road to discover the elite four's hidden location.

Kemi of Meridale - Psychic Pokémon

ZeVeaux of Lupoto - Rock Pokémon

Cole of Pemhaven - Ice Pokémon

Scara of Verdanflor - Grass Pokémon

Chaw of Zatchen - Flying Pokémon

Atiba of Neo Delorn - Dark Pokémon

Gaston of Luxport - Electric Pokémon

Aubren of Sonax - Fire Pokémon

The Magnolan Contest Circuit
Apart from the league challenge, aspiring coordinators may partake in five contests of beauty, coolness, smarts, toughness and cuteness throughout the region to earn special ribbons and other prizes for their Pokémon. Each of the four contest settlements hosts every category, but there are different skill levels of normal, super, hyper and master rank. The normal contest is held in Meridale, the super contest in Pemhaven, the hyper contest in Neo Delorn, and the master contest in the capital city of Sonax.

Contests have two stages. The first is a performance of moves and/or move combinations a coordinator's Pokémon utilizes to dazzle the judges and audience in a manner consistent with the contest's category. The second stage is a series of two battles against the coordinator's competitors in order to determine both skill and style in combat. One victory gets a participant to the finale. One loss allows a contestant to still compete for third place and its respective points to add to his or her final score. Once points in both stages have been tallied, the winner of the contest is determined and prizes are awarded.

The Magnolan Trials
Similar to the region of Alola, Magnol has four trials available for the public to participate in. Each trial contains tests of endurance, wit, and skill that may allow challengers to capture new partners unavailable elsewhere in the region and face a special Totem Pokémon. Defeating the Totem of a respective area allows the victor to earn unique awards and learn some history of Magnol along the way. The settlements of Hattis Town, Bustar Town, Fordox, and Zatchen each host a trial that is symbolic of their area's culture, geography, and experience. More information will be revealed when attempting a specific trial.

People of Interest
Aside from the league's gym leaders, other prominent figures exist to help adventurers on their Magnolan journey. Perhaps the most notable of these individuals is Professor Joaquin Kudzu. The region's foremost Pokémon reseacher, Kudzu has explorered and documented nearly every inch of Magnol. His laboratory headquarters is located in the city of Fordox, but he rarely stays confined to one area. He can often be found travelling throughout the wilderness and local settlements in his pursuit of knowledge.

One of Kudzu's collegues is another professor by the name of Delores Sassafras. Her research focuses primarily on Magnol's history and the presence of many ghost-types throughout the region. She can generally be found near gravesites or burial mounds attempting to capture ghost Pokémon on film or by camera. Sassafras offers a quick history lesson to trainers wherever she visits and may even offer to take their portrait if they seem interested enough.

Magnolan Pokémon Forms
Regional variants of common Pokémon have caused Magnol to recently blossom as a hotspot for tourism. While some remain undiscovered, at least ten unique evolutionary lines exist throughout the land. They include Pokémon with either an extra type added to their normal form or possessing a different type altogether. Normal variations of these region-specific Pokémon are also available for capture, but may or may not be located in the same environment as their Magnolan counterparts.

Cyndaquil - Fire/Water

Chikorita - Grass/Fire

Totodile - Water/Grass

Ekans - Poison/Water

Teddiursa - Dark

Snubbull - Fairy/Steel

Starly - Flying/Electric

Machop - Fighting/Ghost

Spinarak - Ice/Bug

Skiddo - Rock

Church of Arceus
Religion is prominent throughout Magnol. Aside from the usual facilities of Pokémarts and Pokécenters, churches may also be found within the region's various settlements. While all revere Arceus as the center deity of creation, different towns and cities may hold a specific patron legendary or group of legendaries. A local church is led by an appointed bishop, and all answer to Sonax's Archbishop Tobin. Church services include public outreach, aid to the needy, and weekly worship. The Church sometimes employs trainers to participate in missionary work and to complete certain goals for the betterment of the community and their religion.

Team Rebel
Each region has their fair share of criminal enterprise, and Magnol is no exception with the existence of Team Rebel. Rebel grunts are clad in grey antiquated military attire with a red X across their torso. While they have existed on the fringes of society for decades, their new leader, General Hood, has brought their organization out of the shadows during the recent explosion of Magnol's economy. Aside from stealing Pokémon, money, and territory, their primary goal is a revolution to change the laws protecting the freedoms of Pokémon. They want to exploit their powers to make the lives of humans easier, believing the creatures to be tools created for the benefit of mankind.

Combat Mechanics and Moves
This RP will follow a style similar to Pokemon Adventures, meaning that levels and game mechanics are considered, but turn-based combat and other nonrealistic elements are not present. Pokemon battles do not always rely on type advantages and stats. The creativity of the trainer can determine the outcome of the battle. Pokemon are able to die, but this is more of a character development tool than anything. They will only die if you decide it to be that way.

Unlike the core series of games, Pokémon may know more than four moves. I would like to consider them as more like "move trees". Most with appropriate body types will be able to retain weaker moves such as tackle and scratch throughout their entire careers. Moves such as bubble can be enhanced into bubblebeam or water gun when enough experience is earned. This would not mean your Pokémon could not still use bubble if they choose to do so. Moves will evolve alongside the Pokémon that use them. A Charmander's ember will be different from a Magmortar's. A low-level Tauros's stomp is weaker than a high-level Tauros's.

Learning a new type of move will be more involved and up to you as a writer to describe the process. A creature can not magically know how to use an earthquake instantaneously without trial and error. Technical machines (TMs) will certainly speed up the learning process and still teach moves unaccessible to Pokémon from normal growth. They are available for purchase in major settlements throughout Magnol. Lastly, egg moves must be learned from the appropriate parents. Consider incorporating them into your Pokémon's backstory if you wish to have them.

A Pokémon still has limits to what they are capable of utilizing in their combat repetoire. Overpowered Pokémon are boring and much like Mary Sue characters. Adversity and weakness is what makes the RP believable and entertaining. An individual knowing all of the elemental punches, hyper beam, draco meteor, psychic, and zap cannon is unacceptable. A Pokémon would naturally hone and favor certain techniques over others depending on their talent, nature, and training. However, I sincerely believe four specific moves is too limiting.

Rules - Must Read
1 - All appropriate Pokecharms rules apply. Please become familiar with them before attempting to participate in this RP.

2 - No Mary Sue/Gary Stu characters will be accepted. If you absolutely must have qualities of this sort, you must provide very valid, detailed, and interesting reasons to do so. Abusing these traits will result in your character being denied entry to Magnol. Refer to Pokecharms' helpful guide https://pokecharms.com/threads/the-mary-sue-test.183/ to avoid these issues.

3 - All challengers must start with one low-level Pokémon of their choice, with a maximum of 6 in your character's party at any time. No legendaries, underlevelled evolutions, fakemon, Magnolan forms, or shinies are allowed as starters.

4 - Do not ask for shinies. Shinies may be encountered as a reward for quality and consistent role play as determined by me.

5 - No one may start with more than the standard 3,000 Pokédollars (P) for purchases. You will be required to keep track of your money in each post. You may start with any amount under this limit as appropriate for your character.

6 - Your character may be a resident of the region, but please PM me to discuss this before applying.

7 - No activity from you for two weeks may result in your character being written out of the story. Don't join if you don't have the time to post at least once every few days.

8 - Tasteful romance is allowed, but this RP is not intended to be a dating simulator. Keep it to a necessary minimum.

9 - Please write at least a paragraph for every post. We need quality and detail to have a good time and keep the story flowing. Accomplish things with your written effort.

10 - Every post you make must include your current location, party, inventory, and money at the end of your contribution to help me keep up with everyone's status.

NPCs
Name - Ambrose Vance

Gender - Male

Age - 15

Appearance - Ambrose stands at 5'10" and weighs roughly 140 lbs. His usual dress includes black pants, red sneakers, a white tank top, a navy denim jacket, and a black and red triangular backpack. His coarse black hair is messy and spiked with a white bandana adorned like a headband. He has dark skin and amber brown eyes. The young man's stature is proud and he radiates an audacious charisma.

Personality - Somewhat of a cool cat, Ambrose is often arrogant in his confidence. He is never afraid to accept a challenge and revels in the thrill of battle. While he can be snide at times to those he deems unworthy, he tries to always show respect to his friends, family, and elders. The young trainer views himself as a constructive critic and helpful rival to his opponents, encouraging them to excel with teasing insults and humor. Sometimes he takes this trait too far and hurts others' self esteem. His biggest weakness is his exaggerated expectation of himself. His frustration is often his own undoing.

Backstory - Born into a lower class family on the outskirts of Sonax City, Ambrose always had to struggle while growing up. His family couldn't afford many things, especially extra pokéballs and supplies for their child to raise his own Pokémon. His mother worked at an inn and his father as a janitor at a Pokégear corporation in the city. While they managed to survive and scrape by, Ambrose always longed for a better lifestyle. He witnessed many different kinds of people stopping through the sprawling capital of Sonax, and he always felt belittled when he glanced at fragments of what his family couldn't attain. Ambrose developed a passion for battling Pokémon when he realized that he could surpass the limits of his caste by dominating an opponent. No matter how fancy the foe, there was no bias on the battleground. Having dabbled in combat with his parents' Pokémon, the young trainer pounced on the opportunity to challenge the newly established Magnolan League of his home region and become its first champion. He received his first partner, a newly discovered Magnolan Cyndaquil, from the esteemed Professor Kudzu. The researcher became impressed by Ambrose's tenacity, determination, and charm during a visit to Sonax City. The young trainer was using a Monferno he had borrowed from his father without asking permission in a street battle, and he pushed the fire Pokémon's potential to its limit. Rather than scold the young man, Kudzu acknowledged Ambrose's desire to better himself and encouraged him to do things the right way.

Pokémon - Magnolan Cyndaquil (Fire/Water) (Male)

Region of Birth - Magnol

Likes(3 things) - Tough Battles, Cracking Jokes, and Looking Fresh

Dislikes(3 things) - Mistakes, Weak Opponents, Financial Limitations
Name - Shiloh Chapel

Gender - Female

Age - 15

Appearance - Much to her dismay, Shiloh has always looked older than she actually is. She tries to conceal her womanly figure with an oversized yellow turtleneck while also wearing brown capris, white trainers, and a designer lavender backpack. Her long red hair is tied into a half ponytail with a brown beanie that barely clings along for the ride. A plethora of freckles are lightly concealed by tasteful makeup across her fair skin, and deep forest-green eyes tell a tale of natural beauty. Despite her uncomfort with her frame, Shiloh manages to keep a smile with her awkward posture. The young lady's height barely reaches 5'6", and a gentleman never speculates on a woman's weight.

Personality - Definitely a shy girl, Shiloh is quick to blush and avoid social situations. Her usual responses to most questions are yes or no m'am or sir. When she does overcome her introvertedness to start conversations, the subject matter often includes her favorite pastime of Pokémon contests. She transforms into a passionate competitor that doesn't hold anything back when she and her Pokémon are in front of the judges and audience. Shiloh loves to express her feelings in her performance because she has so much difficulty doing so in person. This polite young trainer is loyal to a fault and would do anything for her friends, family, or Pokémon.

Backstory - Shiloh's mother is the gym leader of Verdanflor Town. Although the league has just recently been established, Mrs. Scara Chapel has always been a force to be reckoned with in the local competitive battling scene. Her husband and Shiloh's father was killed in a Mudsdale riding accident involving a lightning strike when Shiloh was very young. Many suitors often attempt to court the lovely widow Mrs. Scara, but she keeps most at an arm's length to protect her daughter. The Chapel family comes from old money, and this has lead to Shiloh leading a very lavish lifestyle. She was raised in a luxurious mansion in the center of her family's prestigious Cottonee plantation. She was taught proper etiquette and respect from a very early age. Although the finer points of being a sophisticated woman have been rigorously drilled into her being, Shiloh is still slightly awkward in her adolescence. Her mother's grass type Pokémon have always been an inspiration, and Shiloh has had much experience in raising them. While she has been tutored by Mrs. Scara in battling, her true passion has always lied in the art of Pokemon contests. Shiloh's desire is to be the first coordinator to attain master rank ribbons in every possible category across Magnola. She received her first partner, Magnolan Chikorita, from Professor Kudzu, an old suitor of Mrs. Scara's and a long time family friend.

Pokémon - Magnolan Chikorita (Grass/Fire) (Female)

Region of Birth - Magnol

Likes(3 things) - Contests, Agriculture, and Fashion

Dislikes(3 things) - Social Situations, Mother's Boyfriends, and Her Own Body
Name - Huckaby Weeks

Gender - Male

Age - 14

Appearance - Huckaby is a well-built young man, standing 5'11" and weighing 200 lbs. He has broad shoulders and a powerful stature, echoed by a deep voice not typical of a boy his age. Pale blue eyes lend to a look of humble innocence. An outdoorsman by nature, his white skin has been tanned dark bronze by the Magnolan sun. He generally wears a blue and white plaid collared long-sleeved shirt with brown overalls and fishing waders. Atop his short and curly brown hair is a green and white trucker style hat with a pokéball emblem. Huckaby carries his gear in an orange camper's backpack complete with a tent and bedroll for wilderness survival.

Personality - Huckaby has been labeled both jolly and intimidating by his peers. He's usually a happy-go-lucky fellow with simple desires, but this can quickly change under duress. Hearty chuckles give way to guttural growls or stern silence when the young trainer's friends, family, or Pokémon are in danger. These demonstrations of anger are few and far between, as most of Huckaby's days are spent in quiet relaxation in the Magnolan wilderness. Time is relative to him in the outdoors, and he despises occassions where he must follow an exact schedule. Punctuality is not one of his strengths. Huckaby would rather live in isolation as a hermit than a cog in a big city. He prefers Pokémon to people, but will always be respectful where appropriate. He views himself as a champion of nature, and will go to great lengths to preserve the ecosystems of wild Pokémon. He believes that human expansion is a great threat to the delicate balance between nature and civilization. This belief lends to an uncomfort with the recent burst in Magnolan tourism. Huckaby wants to safely catalogue the new species of Magnolan Pokémon himself instead of leaving them to the hungry masses who would carelessly imprison them as trophies on a shelf.

Backstory - The Weeks family have been wilderness experts for generations. Huckaby comes from a long line of fishermen, as his father owns a small boat, the Magikarp's Kiss, which traverses up and down the Whishados River each season from Neo Delorn to Pemhaven. His mother is an adept florist that sells both flowers and herbal remedies to those seeking alternative medicine. The two fell in love when Huckaby's father was bitten by a Magnolan Arbok(Water/Poison) while on a fishing expedition, and Huckaby's mother happened to be on the riverbank gathering flowers. She witnessed the incident and used her botanical skill to draw the poison from the wound with nearby plants. It was a love-at-first-sight situation that resulted in Huckaby's birth soon after. He was raised in both the river and the woods, learning trades from both parents and becoming an adept survivalist very early in his life. They lived in a log cabin several miles northwest of Neo Delorn. This location fostered a love for the wilderness and an appreciation of Pokémon habitats. Huckaby made many wild friends and enjoyed learning about the multitude of different species available to him. The older he got, the more he wanted to travel and experience what the rest of what the Magnolan region had to offer. Upon learning that new Magnolan forms were still being discovered throughout the land, Huckaby decided to dedicate his life to becoming a Pokémon researcher. He met his hero, Professor Kudzu, when the expert stopped through the family florist shop to study the local flora. The pair became quick friends through common interests. Professor Kudzu gifted Huckaby with his first partner, Magnolan Totodile, and encouraged the young trainer to follow his dream of becoming a great explorer by taking the league challenge.

Name - Michael Haakonsson

Gender - Male

Appearance - Michael is 6’0” tall, 165 lbs of wiry muscle. He has light brown hair cut quite short and generally mussy. His skin is pale (like Scandinavians in the real world), with blue eyes. He wears a muscle shirt, hand and foot wraps and Thai-style shorts in warm weather. In colder weather, he dons a sweatshirt, warm work pants, boots and some warm gloves.

Personality - In spite of a rough upbringing full of hard work, Michael is a somewhat shy but friendly sort. He’s willing to joke with a passerby and does not hesitate to help those in need. He’s very protective of his friends, especially those he believes to be weaker or less mature than himself, a trait acquired from being a third parent to his eight siblings. Despite the Church having a small following in Kalos, Michael, as with the rest of his family is a member of the Church of Arceus, and its prominence in Magnol certainly factored into his decision to go there on his journey.

Backstory - He grew up in mountainous Kalos, working as a logger with his mother, father, and eight younger siblings. His father has long been saving money to send his children to find their own paths in life, rather than to have them be bound into the ‘family business’ as he was. As such, when Michael turned 16, his father gave him one of the family pokemon, Heracross, and sent him to Magnol to make his own way in a region that hopefully would hold better luck than Kalos.

Her parents expectations would put her under stress which led her to retreat to quiet places where she would have freedom to clear her mind or just take a break. She tends to keep to herself most of the time and and she isn't particularly talkative so most social interactions normally wouldn't get past greetings, small talk or other pleasantries, but she is polite enough to not turn people away. As a result she often found herself in environments such as laboratories, universities and libraries. She had a privileged education as such her parents expected top performance from her, and has shaped made her a very focused, serious person, because of this, she often had a hard time finding friends among the more carefree students, although at times she wished for more freedom for herself. She would often find herself reading, playing with pokemon or just aimlessly walking to clear her mind. Name: Oliver Thompson. ( Ollie )
Gender: Male.
Age: 14
Apperance: Oliver looks younger than he really is, but pays no attention to it. He is 5’00, weighs 105 pounds, and has short messy brown hair. He wears a light blue t-shirt, light brown shorts, a light green bookbag, and red shoes. He sometimes wears a purple hoodie, but only in the cold, since it's too big on him. He has other outfits only for contests, but his most unique feature is his eyes, his left eye being a dark chocolate brown, and his right being a deep ocean blue, due to him being born with Heterochromia.
Personality: Oliver is really shy, and barely talks. He can be very clingy to those he trusts, and barely walks away from his friends. When he trusts someone, he starts opening up, talking quietly, and being energetic. The only time he ever feels like himself is on a stage, performing in contests.
Backstory: Oliver was disowned when he was very young, since his parents couldn’t afford to take care of him anymore, at the age of 5. He got accepted into an orphanage, He stayed there until being kicked out at age 13, because the orphanage shut down, but made a living for himself by becoming a trainer.

@Lillipup07 Thank you so much for your interest. I would be happy to accept you if you could put more detail into your character. I'm concerned that a 4 foot tall, 60 pound teenager would be incredibly small and underweight. I'm also certain that a 3 year-old could not fend for themselves for 2 years. Why were you disowned by your parents, and why were you kicked from your orphanage? We need more information to make your character come to life. You're treading in Mary Sue waters with your unexplained tragedies and heterochromatic eyes. I sincerely appreciate your application, and I hope you can make the appropriate modifications so we can have a good time telling a story together.

@Lillipup07 I'm sorry, but there is still nowhere near the amount of detail and effort to suggest you would be a good addition to the RP. Your backstory is only two sentences long, even after I gave you a chance to edit.
---------------------------

@Hogzilla You are accepted!

I'm fine with Heracross's moveset, but I need to explain a little about how moves in the RP will work. I'm not limiting a Pokémon to only 4 moves, as long as its abilities are within reason. A Heracross would still know how to tackle and use its horn to headbutt no matter what kind of training it endures. However, knowing all of the elemental punches, hyper beam, earthquake and seventeen other moves is far too excessive. I'm also not taking specific numbers in terms of power from the game series. For example, an Onix's tackle would be significantly more powerful than a Pikachu's. As a starter Heracross, you might consider Herk developing his uncommon moves in the story during appropriate scenarios. I'll keep your bio updated in the main post to reflect this and clarify what I've just explained to you for others' benefit.

You may submit your first post at your convenience. Remember, you can enter the region via the S.S. Shellanna in Luxport in the south, or you can arrive by a passenger plane (Tailwind Airlines) in the central capital city of Sonax. I'm happy to provide any details you might need for your writing. Thanks again!

Sweet, this looks like fun! I'll get my post up when I can, but because of work and practice it might be tomorrow afternoon or Friday. I usually won't be so slow but Thursdays are hectic for me.

Great first post @Hogzilla. I'll do a follow-up this evening.

Here are some notable features about Luxport. It got its name from a prominent lighthouse that burned down 100 years ago from the Ampharos lighting it becoming attacked by an unknown sea Pokémon. Legends say it could have been a guardian that became angry with the Magnolan settlers' expansion. A grand new one was built, and the Luxport Church of Arceus prays to the sea every service to appease the vengeful protectors of the ocean. Mother Constance heads the Luxport chapter. They revere appropriate deities such as Manaphy, Kyogre, and Lugia, and offer beach cleaning and fishery conservation services. The old lighthouse is said to be haunted by ghost Pokémon and is a popular tourist attraction.

The gym is run by an esteemed entrepeneur by the name of Gaston. He sort of resembles a riverboat gambler with a fancy tan suit, hat, and twirled brown mustache. His personality is that of a conservative business gentleman. Think Mark Twain meets Elon Musk. The gym does have some electrical equipment outside, but it is designed to look like a lavish seafront casino. People can play slot machines and game tables while they watch Pokémon battles.

I won't always post about the exploits of my three characters Ambrose, Shiloh, and Huckaby. Their purpose is to represent some of the different elements Magnol has to offer. Ambrose is challenging the League, Shiloh the contests, and Huckaby the trials. They may serve as companions or rivals for PCs as the story develops, but my main concern is the progress of the people participating in the RP. I'll further their stories as more players join in.

I hope this bio is sufficient

Name - Leon Brando

Gender - Male

Age - 16

Appearance - Stands at 6'1" with a somewhat athletic build, relatively Pale skin, light Brown eyes and short lightly spiked dark Brown hair. He wears a royal Purple t shirt underneath a closed Black trench coat that reaches his ankles, navy Blue jeans and Beige shoes with Black soles. He wears this attire regardless of the weather.

Personality - Leon usually comes off as a stoic and blunt kind of person, despite this, he is actually friendly when he wants to be and is more than willing to be interacted with. In his eyes, he shows relative loneliness, but he tries his best to brush it aside for the sake of himself and his Pokemon (despite how often said loneliness tends to linger). He happens to care a lot more for Pokemon more than people and would do almost whatever he could to help them should they need it. When it comes to friends, his emotions tend to become a bit more noticeable and more of a 'go with the flow' kind of person. Whenever he gets the chance to speak on the phone, he prefers to do so with little to no interruptions. One of Leon's weaknesses is that he tends to struggle with independent tasks if they prove too much for him, but he makes up for this by being relatively adaptive after settling with a new task once or twice.

Backstory - Born in Mauville City between female office worker and a male archaeologist. Leon was always the type of kid who would wonder off and look for thrills throughout his childhood, much to his parents' annoyance, his relationship wit his parents is best described as neutral; While they don't show as much affection toward Leon as much as usual parents should, they don't harbor any ill will toward him... even if some people find their parenting as questionable thanks to primarily focusing on their jobs, not that Leon minded as he was still acknowledged by his parents. When he was given his first Pokemon, he always longed for the chance to get stronger with his partner and this caused him to gain a few people which would become a little gang. One of the people in said gang was a girl by the name of Hannah who eventually fell in love with Leon and formed a promising relationship. As the years went by, the gang slowly began to drift apart until only Leon and Hannah were left, the pair decided to go on a little Pokemon journey together for a few months and in doing so helped them not only become stronger, but even closer toward each other. Unfortunately, Hannah's parents had business in Kalos which Hannah was forced to join in on. Now Leon continues his journey and constantly keeps in touch with Hannah, awaiting the chance to see her again no matter how long it may be.

Region of Birth - Hoenn, Mauville City

Likes - Peace and quiet, Sweets, Nature

Dislikes - Loud noises, Losing, Being alone

Pokémon

Species - Mawile

Gender - Female

Nature/Personality - Relaxed: Mawile mainly comes off as an extremely laid back Pokemon, despite this, she gets active in a lot of things, especially if it benefits Leon who she sees as more of a big brother than a trainer. She doesn't like it when other people get too close to him because she is afraid they'll make him forget about her (With the exception of a certain lady). In battle, she adopts a violent personality, ready to follow Leon's orders without question.

Brief Backstory - Mawile was given to Leon by his parents after she recently hatched. Since then, the two were rather close and battled often within the city, she became close with the gang's Pokemon during Leon's time leading the gang. However, when the gang started to drift apart and Mawile saw her friends leave one by one, she was worried she would be alone if not for Hannah and her Pokemon. Thanks to Hannah, Leon began to understand Mawile a little better and pay more attention to her, thus causing her to see her trainer as an older brother.

Known Moves - Play Rough, Iron Head, Bite, Sweet Scent

Other - She remains out of her Poke ball and walks beside Leon.

@Red Gallade Thanks for applying to be a part of the game! Your bio has some great potential. I do have a few questions, though. I understand the appreciation for Hannah and Leon's dependence on her, but what are some more of your character's specific strengths and weaknesses? What did his parents do for a living and how did that impact him? Your personality and appearance are descriptive enough, but I think a little more detail in the Backstory would help me understand you better.

Another concern I have is your history with your starter. I fully support Mawile as a selection, but if you've already journeyed with her for a year, she may be a little too strong to compete against early gym leaders and other beginner trainers at the start of this league. Did you guys do a lot of battling in your "gang", or was your time spent just hanging out? I'm just trying to get a feel for you more as a trainer. I want everyone to begin with a rookie Pokémon to get a fresh Magnolan experience.

If you make these slight additions I'd be thrilled to have you so you can make your first post.

@Hogzilla Nice job with the Nincada. That was very descriptive and exactly how I wanted combat to be simulated. I like how you developed your counter attack. I'll have your next post up later tonight after I handle some errands.

Lemmie have a look at Leon's bio and I'll try and come up with ways to fill in the "gaps".

Edit: ...Although, given how busy I am and how often I tend to look on Pokecharms, I can't promise how soon I'll edit, but I'll let you know when I do.

This seems like fun an I'm looking to get back into pokemon rping.

Name - Alexandra Dumont

Gender - Female

Age - 17

Appearance - She is 5' 5" tall and weighs 126lbs. Her pale skin is contrasted by a wavy brown hair and dark blue eyes. She wears blue jeans, sneakers and a white T-Shirt in warmer weather and a navy blue coat, a grey scarf, boots and thicker pants in colder weather. She often carries a brown messenger bag where she keeps her smaller belongings.

Personality - She is a serious, no nonsense kind of person, result of having parents with high expectations for her, she takes things very seriously and can be oblivious to things like jokes or flirting, and takes mocking or insults to heart. Region of Birth - Lumiose City, Kalos Region

Backstory - Alexandra is the daughter of two very prominent academics in one of Kalos' most important institutions. Her father is a researcher and a colleague of Prof. Sycamore, her mother is a teacher at a very prestigious university in Lumiose City. After finishing school among the top students she decided to take on a journey in another region as a way of seeking freedom and finding herself, her parents agreed to her request and gave her money, a pokedex and a pokemon.

Likes(3 things) - Reading, Pokemon, her freedom.

Dislikes(3 things) - People who can't take things seriously, failure, heavy pressure from others.

@PocketMonsterHunter Congratulations and welcome. You've been accepted. Your bio was precise, and I've got a feel for your character. Froakie's moveset is fine, but make sure you review how I prefer to view moves in the first post under the "combat mechanics and moves" section. As water pulse is a little more advanced, consider honing the technique with bubble or water gun first. I don't limit a Pokémon to four moves, but I wouldn't start with more than you've got already. Feel free to make your introductory post. You can arrive by ship in Luxport via the S.S. Shellanna or by plane in Sonax City via Tailwind Airlines.

@PocketMonsterHunter Great introduction. I'll have your first follow-up posted later this evening. One of my NPC's mother works at an inn that you can stay at. She'll give you a lay of the city and highlight some options. You posted as soon as I was finishing a lengthy update for Hogzilla, so I'll give him a chance to respond so I can write for you both. Glad to have you.

@Red Gallade Your bio is looking better. I'm a little confused with your strength and weakness, though. It sounds as though maybe your character is autistic or perhaps at least has attention deficit disorder.

Did you decide about how we can make Mawile more of a starter? You have a lot of battling experience with her already, and this may give her an unfair advantage.

@Clockwise I would appreciate some details on Sonax's sorroundings, I have a rough draft of my post already but I could make a longer and more in depth post if you could describe what the sorroundings are like, what kind of pokemon you can find, the gym's description, etc. Thank you in advance.

@PocketMonsterHunter The interior of the city is that of a heavy industrial Metropolis, complete with just about every service you can fathom. The exterior is sort of suburban with several concentrations of lower class slums. Feel free to create anything you need for your writing within that context. There are sewers, malls, warehouses, etc. The gym is fire-type, but it's themed as a dance club with Aubren, the female leader, being a DJ. She'll have a couple of trainers to occupy you before I'll need to describe her.

The environment surrounding Sonax is mostly grasslands, field, and forest. The main roads that enter the capital are wider than most other Magnolan routes. Any common Pokémon that could inhabit these terrains could possibly be found in the right circumstance. If you think a Pokémon you'd like to encounter might be questionable, feel free to pm me. I'm pretty open to collaboration.

I'm working on an update, and it should be completed sometime this evening. I do have a funeral to attend today, though, and I'll have to stay later at work to compensate.

Everybody is doing a great job, and I'm having lots of fun. Thank you all for your patience.

My next post is pretty much ready to go, I'll probably post it after practice this morning it will be a little less wordy than my previous posts because I'm kinda relying on @Clockwise to dictate the progression of this subplot.

I'll try to leave my posts more open ended as well since I'm also relying on @Clockwise to develop the story.

Also, I think it would make things more intresting if the NPCs made more appearances given it's just two PCs but this is just a suggestion.

I'm looking forward to the introduction of Team Rebel, I liked their description a lot.

These requests are already in motion with the next few updates. I'll have my next post completed soon.

That was quite a lengthy update. I have some notes to help with your upcoming posts.

@Hogzilla You can control Baptiste and his Golduck for the upcoming battle with two Frillish. One is male and one is female. They will attempt to drag their opponents underwater to make the fight easier for them. Golduck knows how to use Water Pulse (Water Gun move tree), Confusion, Signal Beam, Disable, and Fury Swipes (Scratch move tree). Golduck can also communicate with his trainer (or I guess anyone) telepathically. Baptiste has a fishing net, a small anchor, barrels, parasols, and other basic sailing and fishing gear aboard the Whooping Wooper (greatest boat name ever).

@PocketMonsterHunter This disco man has a single Pokémon, so don't hold anything back. I'll let you handle this battle, but I'll be much more involved with the leader. Braixen knows Scratch, Ember, Flame Charge, Magic Coat, and Howl.
