Private/Closed The Lost Island

Jacob yawned as he felt the water spray against his face. He had been travelling since dawn, and it was very tiring doing nothing in the sun all day. If it wasn’t for the ocean water being kicked up by the inept swimming of Nero, his Blastoise, he would certainly have been sweating from the heat. He wiped some ocean water off his brow, and spit to his right into the ocean. The salt was drying out his mouth, and he reached behind him pulling a bottle of water out from his pack. He took a big gulp before returning it to its proper pouch. He sighed as he stretched his arms. “How much longer?” he thought to himself.

But it wasn’t all bad. To his left, keeping pace with him was Momo, one of his friends from school, riding her Samurott which seemed to be swimming much more smoothly than Nero was. Jacob and Momo had been close for some years now, and the two of them both liked to travel together. The fact that he wasn’t alone made this trip far more bearable.

That day, they were travelling to the Lost Island, a small island several miles off the coast of Hoenn said to be home to plenty of rare, believed to be extinct pokemon. It wasn’t easy to find, even with a pretty accurate map, and they had already been looking for the damn thing for hours. Lunch had come and gone, and they remained in the water. Jacob was starting to believe that maybe the island was just a legend when a speck of green caught his eye on the horizon. He turned to Momo, pointing forward.

“You see that? Over there?” he shouted over the sound of the churning water from the speed of both water types. “That must be it! Come on we’re almost there!” Jacob was ecstatic; after so long, just as he was beginning to think they never would, they finally found it. The Lost Island was an island that did exist, and he would finally be able to get out of the damn ocean. “Pick it up!” He shouted, more towards Nero (Blastoise) than Momo.

Momo was taking a nap on Misaki, her Samurott, not even caring about the noises in the water. Her lilac hair was slightly dipped in the water, swirling around like paint. That was the pain of having long hair, it would always get caught in places she never wanted it to. She opened up her piercing crimson eyes and scanned the waters ahead of them. At first, she saw nothing, and assumed that they were still traveling on empty waters, but then she heard Jacob shout. Looking a little bit harder, she could see the little green blotch on the bright blue scene they were traveling through.

"You've gotta have some amazing vision in order to see that far away," Momo didn't shout like her friend did, which made her a little hard to hear.

She simply wrapped her arms around the neck of Misaki (Samurott), and gently whispered her needs in his ear while rubbing his sides and kissing his head. It was rare for Momo to be seen acting so docile, but she always was this way when with her pokemon. Misaki began swimming faster through the sea, heading straight toward the island.

She looked behind them and saw storm clouds gathering, which sent a pang of anxiety coursing through her body. Thunder and lighting scared her, much like a small child, and to have the possibility of a storm in a place she was unfamiliar with made her incredibly nervous. Yet, her face remained stoic and calm. She was never one to show how she was truly feeling, even around her best friend. He often had to coax it out of her during more personal moments.

After nearly a half an hour of awkward small talk drowned out by splashing noises, they had arrived on the Lost Island. The place was completely gorgeous, grassy fields surrounded by fertile forests and colorful flowers. She bit her lip to hide the massive grin that was itching to spread on her face.
"So...was the trip worth it?" Momo looked over casually at Jacob, trying to block out the dark gray clouds in the distance.

Jacob tilted his head. It was good to be on solid ground again. The beach had been without sand; rather, the water brushed up against a pile of mud atop which the island sat. The grass was nice and cool; it must have rained pretty recently. And furthermore, it looked like it would be raining again soon. Dark clouds began to form above them, blocking out the sun. He looked back at Nero(Blastoise), who was still working on climbing up out of the water onto the grass. Jacob turned to Momo.

“Well, we haven’t found anything yet,” he said, tilted his head and smirking. “But we should probably try to find some cover first.” Jacob looked around. The area they had entered seemed to be very nice; typical meadow and forestland. However, he could see the island building up to a rather large mountain in the center. The forest might be able to provide them with some cover, but if they could find some large enough rocks further up the mountain and set up their tents, they’d be fine for even a larger downpour. “What do you think? Forest or mountain?”

As he said this, Jacob recalled Nero. The Blastoise disappeared in a flash of red, letting out a large sigh just before he vanished. There was no need to have the lumbering Nero chasing behind them as they tried to find shelter; after all, the pokemon on the island had likely never seen a person before, and there was a good chance they’d be hostile. A pokemon like Nero stomping around could bring unwanted attention.

Momo looked over to the mountain, and scanned it for possible hiding places. She knew that trees attracted lightning, so hiding in the forest was a bad idea. Luckily, there seemed to be a small cave right on the bottom, but there was a pretty long walk needed to get there.
"The forest is beautiful, but would be dangerous in a storm. I think I see a small cave right on the edge of the mountain, so we should head that way." She sincerely wished that she had brought an umbrella.

Misaki was already back in his pokeball and Haruko, her Noivern, was out in his place. Haruko was the best pokemon on her team by far. During her short time in Kalos, she got her breeder friend Sydney to help her get the perfect Noibat, with a perfect potential and egg move set. So she was trained like a boxer, and during that time became very close to Momo. She not only had a guardian, but a friend as well.

Haruko was quiet and quick on her feet, so Momo wasn't worried about being attacked. What she was worried about still loomed overhead like smoke from a fire. She grabbed Jacob by the arm and started to walk swiftly toward the mountain.
"Y-you know how I feel about storms, so we gotta hurry up," she blushed, hating how small she felt under the giant clouds.

Jacob took one look at the cave and his stomach turned. Ugh! Not another cave! he thought to himself. He had spent a lot of time in caves recently and he had grown to hate them. He had been trapped in a cave in Kalos not long ago, and he had visited Hoenn not long after that getting caught in yet another cave by a storm. He wanted to tell Momo no, not to go into a cave. He wanted to say it was a terrible idea, and that he would never go into a cave again. But he didn’t have a better idea, and he didn’t want to look like a wimp.

The two of them, Jacob dragged along by Momo, figuratively and literally, rushed into the cave in the side of the mountain. It wasn’t very large, just several meters in all directions. Enough for Jacob, Momo, and Haruko to fit comfortably, although Jacob wasn’t sure Haruko was going to enjoy the cave very much. His experience with flying type pokemon was that they weren’t particularly happy in caves or underground. But Jacob knew Momo lover her Noivern, so he doubted she’d recall her.

As the clouds came directly overhead, the cave grew much darker, and it became difficult for Jacob to see. Jacob sneered. He knew that neither he nor Momo had a fire-type pokemon, or even an electric type for that matter. However, he did have Mickey, his Exploud, who knew a fire type move. In a flash of white, the Exploud appeared, smiled at Jacob and the rest. Mickey had always been a reliable pokemon; not necessarily the best at battling, but he was very consistent, and trustworthy.

“Mickey, help us out with fire fang.” The pokemon let out a rather loud “SPLOUD” that almost made Jacob cover his ears. Mickey often had that problem with being quiet; you would too if you had a super strong voice. “Shhhh!” Jacob replied a bit annoyed as the pokemon’s teeth lit up in flames. The light lit up the room, and Jacob finally got a good look around. It was about the size he had figured, but in the back of the cave, something caught his eye. He stepped forward to see a small hole, not a foot wide in diameter in the wall. He could see light coming from the other side. He motioned to Mickey, and the pokemon jumped forward, crashing through the wall and almost taking a burning hot bite out of Jacob himself.

“Watch it!” He yelled at his pokemon, who had fallen to the ground in his attack of the wall. Jacob looked through the hole in the wall. On the other side was a much larger tunnel, lit up by glowing blue diamonds. A small stream flowed down the far side, near the wall. Jacob turned back and looked at Momo. “Well, this is interesting.”

Momoko realized much too late that she was dragging Jacob into a situation he was possibly uncomfortable with. She remembered the stories he told about the multiple times he was trapped in caves. This fact made her feel pretty self conscious. "Why," she thought to herself, "do I get to be sheltered from my own fears, while Jacob has to be dragged into a situation that makes him afraid."

Haruko looked around at the cave with discomfort, she hated being anywhere that had no skies above. Yet, seeing Momoko looking so anxious is what made her more worried. Momo was her friend! She wished that she could do something to help, but alas, she was only a pokemon. When Mickey came out of his pokeball, Haruko growled and stood low. She always had issues with Loudred.

Momo's thoughts were interrupted by Jacob pointing out the beautiful cave ahead of them. She completely forgot about her own self loathing and hopped up on her feet, running over to where Jacob was. Her red eyes sparkled in the blue light, giving off a peculiar look. She put Haruko back in her pokeball, knowing her prejudice against Loudreds, and gently placed her foot in the stream. The water was incredibly cold, and since she was a hot blooded girl, she immediately reeled back and embraced her friend, shivering.

Jacob smirked at Momo, who had latched onto him for the moment. He wasn’t used to having girls hanging off of him like that, but he had known Momo for a while and felt comfortable with her. He was about to ask about what they should do next when Mickey(Exploud) spoke from behind him.

“Loud! Sploud!” the pokemon announced. Jacob turned around freeing himself from Momo’s grasp to see his pokemon facing down one of the corridors. The pokemon had taken a low stance, almost growling in that direction.

“You hear something down their?” Jacob asked. The pokemon nodded, and Jacob turned to Momo. “Well, we should probably see what’s going on down there, eh?” Mickey led the way with Jacob and Momo close behind. They hadn’t walked very far, just a few meters down and turned a corner, when they saw two shadows jumping towards them. It didn’t take long for Jacob to discern them as two Kabutops. This was perfect, Jacob thought; they had already found some extinct pokemon. The Kabutops themselves didn’t seem very happy to see them, but Jacob didn’t expect them to be. He quickly recalled Mickey, and released another pokeball. A large flash of blue and his Blastoise, Nero, was standing in front of them. “Alright Nero, it’s time for some exercise.”

The pokemon nodded, stretching with a “Blaaaaaaaaa-” before facing the approaching Kabutops. The two Kabutops converged on Nero, moving quickly. They were already too close for Nero to use his cannons.

“Use mega punch!” The Blastoise’s right hand glowed white as he swung towards the nearest Kabutops. The pokemon dodged, and Nero slammed his fist into the side of the cave. The Kabutops attacked, using slash, hitting Nero in his underbelly. The pokemon stumbled backwards as it tried to recover. Meanwhile, the other Kabutops sped past Nero, towards Jacob and Momo.
