Ask to Join The Ghoulish Games of Gengar!

The sound of chirping gave a spark to Lily’s senses. She had been roused from her slumber early in the morning, as was her usual schedule. At least an hour or two before the sun could be seen cresting the horizon. As her father said, ‘the early bird gets the worm’, though she saw something different than the practicality of being an early riser.

The cool and crisp air of a truly new morning had a certain lonely beauty to it that she couldn’t quite describe, though she herself felt out of place in such a lovely environment.

Her messy blonde hair and groggy complexion betrayed any attempt to make herself look like she’d gotten a good night’s sleep. Not that it mattered too much to her, as she wasn’t exactly out to win any beauty contests like those fashionistas in the big city. It was hard to maintain hair styles or makeup when doing manual labor all day. For the most part she’d been more functional, and just tied her hair behind her into a ponytail.

Camping in the forest was never comfortable, and oftentimes Lily would reminisce on the occasional naps she took in piles of hay back at her family’s farm. It was especially nice after getting hit with exhaustion following a long day. Her body and mind found a peace there that could never quite be emulated during her travels...but she didn’t regret leaving her home for even a second. Her will to aid Team Rocket in their efforts drove her to seize every day.

Pressing the button on the device she used as an alarm clock, Lily sat up inside her tent, still swaddled in her sleeping bag. She took a moment to stare blankly at the inside of her small, one-person tent, as well as her green sleeping bag that she felt made her look like a Caterpie.

The tent breathed as small gusts of wind made the tarp shift and rustled some of the trees outside. After changing out of her sleeping clothes, Lily unzipped the entrance of the tent and set out to start her day. Leaves applauded, and branches swayed. There was a slight nip in the air, but all in all she’d felt colder. It was certainly nothing a little bit of walking wouldn’t cure, and a little bit of food.

After disassembling and putting her tent away, Lily proceeded to rekindle her fire from the night before and reheated some of the soup she’d made for herself in her thermos.

While the delicious smell of her morning meal wafted through the air of her makeshift campsite, Lily used a hair-tie to pull her long hair back and into a ponytail. It had become a habit whenever she felt particularly productive in a day, which was usually every morning.

Today, she was determined to catch a rare pokemon. One that would surely help her rise in ranks within the Team Rocket organization. Today, she was going to capture a Gengar.

Local folklore spoke of the elusive pokemon residing in an abandoned mansion deep in the forests off of Route 5. Trainers would occasionally come to the mansion to try and capture this fiendish ghost-type, only for their pokemon to be bested, and for the trainers themselves to be scared off.

Not Lily, though. She was sure she would be strong enough to take on this pokemon, as well as avoid whatever creepy tricks it had up its sleeve. Today, that gangar would belong to Team Rocket.

Liam woke up, yawning silently. "Lets see...schedule...schedule....here it is!" He said, picking it up. " let's see....catch a Gengar. Of course... " He sighed, grabbing his team rocket outfit. He always got the worst jobs, since he was youngest. He stood up, ready to head out.

After finishing the soup she’d prepared, Lily could feel the energy reinvigorating her passion. Though still tired, she had purpose, and chose to focus on her goal.

After putting away her cooking supplies, the young farmer set out. She’d spent all night camping in the Route 5 forests, so the mansion shouldn’t have been too far. This prep work might even have given her a leg up on the Gengar itself, as she was sure nobody else had attempted to catch it this early in the morning.

The slightly chilly wind tickled Lily’s spine, but she pushed forward. A little discomfort wasn’t going to stop her. Especially when she felt so confident she was going the right direction. Even without looking at a map, something told her this was the right way. Almost as though the mansion itself was calling and guiding her.

After about a half hour of walking, faint traces of wood and iron could be seen through the foliage. First, she saw the roof of the mansion poking over the treetops. It was a dark pointed roof, with a strange iron symbol planted above the highest window. In Lily’s opinion, it looked like a thunder-type evolution stone, but more circular.

Lily had seen symbols like these used for various things, so to her it shouldn’t have really mattered what its significance used to be. Yet for some reason her eyes kept getting drawn to it.

Emerging from the forest, the young trainer had arrived at large iron gates that surrounded the whole property. They looked foreboding and uninviting to the worn down old home. However, the gate itself appeared to be bent, with its corner buried in the dirt. It didn’t look like it could be locked even if someone tried.

Lily took a moment to check the pokeballs on her belt. One, two, three. Everyone was healed, fed, and ready to move forward into the mansion.

As she stepped through the gate, the tall grass in the front lawn felt like it was reaching out to her. Every step, every thud of her boots against the mishapen concrete path in front of her seemed hollow somehow. It was as though she’d come to the aftermath of a place that was once full of life.

There was definitely a sense of unease to this home. However, Lily chose to suppress the feeling for the sake of her mission. She couldn’t let any fear creep into her, lest she turn tail and run like the other trainers who visited this place.
