Ask to Join Superpower High School Roleplay: Karma High

Might just make my starting post involving Frederick arriving and maybe have one of his familiars already out and carrying one of his bags for him. I don't see Frederick as the type of guy to be the starter of a conversation so soon after arriving at a new school, he'd more likely do so once he's settled in and everything.
His power is cool, and makes me think of every old cartoon from 'The Three Stooges' to 'Betty Boop'.

And I just realized that Pamela will probably love his goons on first sight, while slowly making them even goofier as they react to her Caffeinated...If they're really considered alive enough to feel the affect's of caffeine.

@Blotch'd is the spooky ghost light ooooOoOooO Ffion’s backpack-carrying globule by chance? If it’s not and you had something else planned that’s totally chill but if it is I’ma get on making a post lol
Just giving Her a chance to slide into Fifi's in person Dm's-

But in actuality I can just make it an actually creepy flickering lightbulb at the end of a very long hall, forcing them to go down the dark hall if you don't feel like it-

Oh nah man I gotchu I gotchu I was looking for a chance to get in on some tasty interactions ✨

That's kinda the idea, dunno if I might expand on his powers and his familiars as the RP progresses. I'd also say they're plenty goofy to begin with. And since they have their own sentience, I'd say they'd feel the effects as well, albeit not as much as regular humans do.

@Cryronn the Mudkip Pardon my impatience; what do you think of the House system?

I ask simply because quieter characters such as Frederick and Jasper would elect to move into dorms first before having any major interactions, I assume, and since Houses will affect dorms, we'll need to have a decision made on that before those characters can progress any further.

Otherwise, it may feel as though some characters are in stasis whilst others are having their ordinary interactions (I say ordinary, but nothing about Pamela has been ordinary thus far).

Heyhey, not the owner of the rp but @D34N.U5R, I don't think there's a list of powers each character has so ur character shouldn't have known every single power of the whole cast. Teehee
Just to clarify, he doesn't know anyone but he knows people with those powers might be there. You never know what to expect, so sometimes, you just expect everything, right...? (Also it wasn't every power by the way. :))

Also...He just...can jump from device to device???
And somehow knows where to come out?? If he perfectly guessed most of the powers then he should be able to actually know how to get to a dorm connected device instead of some rando device that happens to belong to a member of the only ongoing interaction before your post?

Maybe I'm the only one but doesn't that feel, oh, I don't know, a tad too coincidental?
Like, that just feels like too much of a power pull TBH.

While we wait to hear back from Cryronn, @Red Gallade and anybody who prefers to move in first can go ahead and do so, I think. We can follow this random dorm description for guidance if we all find it suitable:

Boys' Dorms:
Dorm 3 : Jasper Mueller, Omar Shieldson, Edric Fletcher, Frederick Valentine
Dorm 7 : Carter Whitaker, Orion Cross, Dean Emery, (empty)

Girls' Dorms:
Dorm 15 : Pamela Oswald, Asuna Ryugetsu, (empty), (empty)
Dorm 16 : Riley Deimi, Gwen Kendra, Ffion Drake, (empty)

Each dorm consists of 4 rooms, en-suite (meaning each room has its own bathroom), and a communal kitchen. Rooms will have the standard bed, desk, wardrobe, window, etc. Exact details and style can be customized by each person as they wish; Karma High could easily have gone the extra mile to include special items/conveniences for each student's power or needs.

For example, Carter's room may already be plastered full of motivational quotes and posters on the walls to maximize his Unending Motivation and Radiant Determination. Of course, the details are completely up to you! Be as creative as you wish, within reason (though Karma High is probably loaded, so most things will be within reason).

Upon entering, the door of every assigned room will have a sticker displaying the occupant's name on it so they know which room is theirs.

The dorm building can be of a modern architectural style (whatever that means lol, just not Hogwarts), have a reception and general seating area around said reception. Here's an example floor plan:

Ground: Reception, Seating area

1st : Study spaces on the far left, general common room and elevator in the middle, and on the far right, a recreation room with a TV, bean couches, video + board games, whole nine yards

2nd : One long-ass hallway. Boys' laundry room on the far left, then dorms 1-10, then floor elevator, dorms 11-21, and finally girls' laundry.

3rd: Roof, maybe?

Anyway, my apologies for the essay. Solidifying details like these mean there's more time to focus on writing quality, playful, interesting posts like we've all been doing thus far.

Dude, You're like the Author's assistant that actually writes more of the book than the author. Love this idea!
Home@Dorm in Roxas City | 3-storey Commercial Dormitory Building soon to rise
THIS is an image of a three story dormitory in Roxas city, and the only image I saw that made sense.
...Because everything else for '3 floor modern architectural style' looks like these crack-smoking buildings;
VISHAL ACADMEY HOSTEL : 1574 Sqft | Indian Architect | Home building design, Modern architectural styles, 3 storey house design
The architecture of MIT: 10 impressive buildings on the tech university's campus

And what exactly is the point of the 'House system' you mentioned earlier if the dormitories are shared anyway? Do each of the Houses get taught different things? Do they have separate classes than the other Houses? Is it just for show,or would the houses actually mean something tangible?

And these details should be solidified, don't apologize. Should we go the full monty? Like, do we need an actual class schedule for this purpose as well? Should we come up with names for the teachers without using them as characters so that people can reference them instead of just saying 'the math teacher' as needed? Or is all that a little too much?

Yeah, I initially pushed the idea of Houses to organize dorms, but as you suggested, they would have gone on to influence a plethora of other things like classes, events, competitions, and perhaps even inspire some lore regarding the founding of Karma High. However, I see it as too large of a change to introduce without Cryronn's blessing.

Dorms are something that had been planned from the start; so with this new random assignment, it feels more like we're simply adding detail to a part of the story Cryronn already introduced, and so, I find it a more polite pathway to progression.

That's... a great idea actually. We can draft up a simple class schedule and make a list of NPC's that are available whenever the situation requires, like a receptionist, teachers for different subjects, a headmaster etc.

What do we all think of the above suggestion?

Sounds fantastic my dude. We need these.

I'm kinda detail focused so even if we won't actually use them often I still like having those small details around because I feel the smallest details flesh out the story better. Of course, not too small. I don't fret over the tablecloth when the dishes are clean, y'know?

I'm not taking this personally, but I feel like this is starting to get controversial. Also, he can only jump into a certain device for 10 minutes at a time before he's found by an antivirus (or just straight-up killed which makes the power much less useful). He would've had to walk 10 minutes to said device, not taking Godspeed into account (obviously), but he sometimes expects literally everything other than what he's supposed to. And he just... jumps out of the device from literally anywhere.

Gonna be busy this weekend doing part time work, but is it okay to reserve a spot? Enjoy Hero RPs, enjoy school stuff so this is a fun opportunity.
Cryronn hasn't been seen since Wednesday, though please do go ahead and make a character bio when time allows. So far everyone has just been having casual interactions and moving into dorms.

I'm sure Cryronn will return this weekend; otherwise, I'm sure we can figure something out.

That still seems more balance than the guy who can move up to light speed, I don't think people understand how fast that is XD
Rush Hour and Steam Engine by comparison seem way more balance speed powers.
Also considering that Godspeed is both speed powers...On Steroids. A mind boggling speed leads to a character that...Is straight up impossible to fight, and considering that he has access to every port in a world where technology is at every nook and cranny, he would be impossible to hide or run from if you don't live in the woods, and even then; Godspeed again!

Sure, we have him consuming an unhealthy amount of energy to travel at light speed, but considering that time is stopped at light speed (Theory of Relativity), Dean's body cannot progress forwards in time. His state cannot change without meeting an outside force because no time passes between him starting it and stopping it. So he would not feel the loss of energy at all until he stopped....And even if he did somehow burn energy in a way he could feel during Godspeed's use, he would have to burn energy in time increments too small to measure in order for this to be fair, and then the power would be rendered useless in his perception anyway (since time perception is different at light speed)

And if you want to go deeper down that rabbit hole, in the perception of those around him (And time/distance on a global scale, since it takes light 0.13 seconds to travel across the world) he both moves instantly and runs out of power instantly. Yet to himself, he moves quickly and runs out of power...Never, in one way of thinking, and almost instantly in another way.

Does this make sense to anyone? Because I'm finding it hard to even put to words my own reasoning behind my thoughts, let alone understand the actual implications of this crazy ass ability.

As someone who’s interested in electrical engineering I’m a little curious as to the physics of the tech jumping power as well. Does he transform himself into a voltage and enter through a port? Does the computer view him as a file that’s being uploaded, that it then deems to have a virus in it? In which case, how much time would it take to upload the essence of a human psyche? Is he himself connected to the Internet to detect devices or does he use Bluetooth? Would using a VPN impact his ability?

I usually put wayyy too much thought into creating powers, how they work, and how they balance out, especially when they’re technology related, to make them seem more realistic, so sorry for the barrage of words if you haven’t really delved deep into thought about it, just curious! ^^”

Name: Kimiko "Kim" Takahashi
Age: 16
Gender/Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Heterosexual (Despite her not showing much romantic interest)
Height: 5'6"

Appearance (pictures can also be used): An Asian-American girl with fair skin, dark purple eyes and long black hair she usually ties into a ponytail. Her figure is about average height a girl her age, with an athletic even visibly if lightly toned physique. There is a faded scar across the bridge of her nose, and seems to have a pair of silver ring earrings to add a bit of personal style. Her top consists of a plain white t-shirt where she wears a dark blue vest over it and even fancied a pair of similarly colored gloves. She tends to wear a thigh high white skirt (Decorated with some light blue diamond-shaped glitters across the edge of it) with a pair of black bottoms underneath it to be on the safe side, along with a pair of long white socks and a pair of dark blue shoes..

Personality: A reserved, serious girl who seems to take any activity no matter how minor with the upmost intensity. She is competitive with a desire to be the best and isn't always the most humble about it, often being cold or dismissive of those she doesn't find to impress her. Course, this is just a bitter outer shell she crafted to keep people away from her, fearing the possibility of growing close to someone only for that to be taken away from her. She is loathed with self-resentment and often turns to training or the arts as a distraction, though to those who can chip through her exterior a sweatier and girl with a loving passion may not be fully erased as she believes.

Backstory/History: Kim is the youngest in the Takashi line, a respected and long-lasting line of heroes that she is expected to push on the proud legacy towards. Kim always had a passion for being a hero, though her family always burdened her with their unreasonable expectations; it was never enough to be good, she had to be the best and anything less than that was seen as a failure. Her controlling father more or less isolated her for large sections of her life, seeing things like friends and social activities to be a distraction on her goal to being a future top hero, and was not above physically reprimanding her for her "failures" leading to internal resentment and this sense of loneliness. This feeling only intensified when her older sister graduated and became a pro, leaving her alone, without the one supportive buffer and thus sparking this desire no this need to be perfect to not bring shame to her family.

Powers:
-"Folded Heart" (Kim possesses the ability to transform her body into an enhanced paper at will. Whether it'd be to split Kim's body up into individual pieces of paper, or change sections of her body into a malleable paper replica. This offers her a diverse skillset: She can for example, disperse into various fluttering paper birds to avoid a physical blow and reform into a whole body, she can shift her body and fold over layers of paper to produce things like a paper sword, shield or wings for combat or other utility. The downside is she becomes vulnerable to elemental attacks in this state, such as flames that can burn her paper body or water to make it soggy and weak. This also takes a mental toll the longer or more actions she makes with this ability, leading to headaches or even a full collapse if she overuses it.)

-'Hand to Hand Combat Specialist" (Kim trained extensively in her life thus far to handle herself even without powers, in particular taking a liking to kickboxing and judo so she can always hit hard and use her opponent's size against them. She is not yet a true master in these fields, but highly proficient and growing in skill each day.)

Likes: Her sister, Marcus, Painting, Poetry, Training
Dislikes: Failure, Her father, Her grandfather, Her mother, Slobs
Relationships: Isamu Takahashi (Her grandfather, a retired Pro Hero), Minoru Takahashi (Her father, a semi-active Pro Hero), Asami Takahashi (Her mother, a semi-active Pro Hero), Naomi Takahashi (Her older sister, a relative newcomer Pro Hero), Marcus Stevens (The family caretaker).
Other: In private she often forms her right hand into a paper dog that acts as a puppet she speaks with, a true companion of sorts and she'd sooner kill herself then let anyone discover this little secret of hers. She calls it Carroll, named after one of her favorite authors. A bit sassy and speaks her inner thoughts, though can also be lazy a sleeping dog if you will.

@Godjacob welcome! Accepted! Glad to have you back, m8.

Also it appears “Godspeed” has gotten quite controversial- alongside the electricity power. I’m not quite sure how to offer a balance to this situation- in fact I’m reading this before reading the main thread, so I might be missing the fuller picture, so enlighten me on what you guys feel is wrong- I’m all ears to help fix the problem.
Godspeed does just seem like a stronger version of Riley, my character, and her power Rush Hour. I was planning on balancing it in terms of gears- each putting an increased strain on the body, and some adding special things (like ranged force attacks). It was gonna go from Gear 1 (about as fast as a professional runner) to Gear 5 (a flash of lightning).

I am back though! I never expected this rp to get like 10 million traction while I was out working (and playing Pokémon Uranium) but yeah, you guys are killing it with the activity lmao.

@ExxtremeBattler i really like your idea for the house system. In order to streamline the rp I was going to have everyone follow the same schedule, but I like the idea of each house having a different “instructor” for the Power Control class that each one goes to. Also, a list of staff sounds like a great idea, I’ll start making a google doc for that to figure stuff out.

Otherwise, the main direction i was going to take the rp for today was as follows-

1. People drop off their things in their dorms.
2. Everyone meets up in the cafe for dinner, and afterwards, a small assembly with the Principal.
3. Everyone goes back to their dorms so we can start the official first day of school, and we get the schedule figured out.

Thanks, happy to be here~

I think if they just made the top speed slower, it would be fine. Lightspeed is just too fast to where there should be zero tension in any activity or fights he takes place in. If he can move that fast, he could circle the world 7 times over within a second. Nobody would even react to what he does before he did what he needed to.

Just lowering the top speed fixes this concern, and maybe you speedsters can chat here for ways to make your powers distinct so they all shine with least a unique property among each.

Oh- just to mention- Riley currently only has access to Gear 1 and Gear 2- alongside VERY limited access to Gear 3 (it’s essentially a desperation power). And yeah- the main worry I have with Godspeed is that it’s one of I think 3 powers this character has, all of which are relatively strong (as opposed to Riley, our other speedster- whose other power is Corrosion- a relatively niche power). I agree lowering the top speed, at least here at the beginning of the rp, is the best place to start.
