Open Pokemon: Adventure in Unova!

"This is our chance, Espurr, use Signal Beam and wrap this up!" He says. Espurr fires a beam of pink light towards Poochyena. "You're doing great, Espurr! Keep up the good work." He yells.

OOC: Okay, I decided to give poochyena fire fang, like the one I have in ORAS

During is calling to poochyena, Lysand had failed to realize that Roy had called out for Espurr to use signal beam. "Poochyena watch out!" He shouted, but the pink beam hit poochyena. The small pokemon fell to the ground in a huff. Poochyena was too exhausted to continue battling. Even though the pair had lost, Lysand felt that Poochyena and him had gained an understanding of what it truly meant to be a pokemon trainer.

"That was great, Espurr!" He says as he picks her up. "Thanks for the wonderful battle, Lysand." He says as he reaches his hand out. Espurr is happy and pats Poochyena, as if it were saying thanks.

OOC: I MADE TRAINER CARDS FOR YOU GUYS! These were the closest sprites I could find :)

OOC: those look good, thank you

"That was a good battle," Said Lysand, after checking on Poochyena, "Thank you for battling me." Lysand picked up Poochyena, and took him to heal up.

Both Espurr and Roy smile brightly, his victory pose greatly resembles that of Lorenzo Cain's. "Its good to know I can count on you both." He says.

Orlando agreed, "Yep, I certainly think so too."

OOC: Sorry, I was eating dinner. Anyway, can I make some final team changes? Instead of zebstrika and throh, can I have a Ninetails-F and na Aegislash-M?

Orlando knew the answer, "Let's get going on our adventure! I already know where to find my second pokemon, and we shouldn't take too long, or the league will start without us!"

"Sounds like a good idea! I need to start building my team as well. Espurr needs some new friends as well." Roy responds. Espurr climbs into my pocket and happily cries.

OOC: Sorry to be a buzzkill, but it's late where I live and I need to go to bed.

"That sounds like a good idea!" Lysand smiled at his two friends. "You guys can go ahead, I forgot about a small thing I need to do before I leave. Sorry, but it's important." He gave a vague answer before running off. He had forgotten that he promised to send his dad a letter before leaving. Maybe it would get to him before he left for his next trip.

OOC: I realized that quite a few of my pokemon (see: almost all of them except one) cannot be found in the Unova region naturally. What do I do about this when catching pokemon?

Lysand hurried down the road to the one place that he knew he could deliver mail at. He had already wrote the letter the night before when he was having trouble sleeping from being too excited, but, with the excitement of the battle that he had witnessed -and the one that he had participated in- he had forgotten to mail it.

Lysand came up to one of the small houses where he lived, giving a knock on the brown front door. An old lady opened the door with a smile, "Oh, hello Lysand. It's good to see you again." Said Ms. Tollen. She was an older woman who Lysand had helped out since he had moved here. Her husband had passed away a few years ago, and with all of her grandchildren grown up and on journeys of their own, she didn't always have the help that she needed.

"Hi Ms. Tollen. I was wondering if I could drop off a letter to be mailed," Lysand dug the letter out of his bag, and handed it to Ms. Tollen. It was already addressed with the address of his father's house. Lysand also knew that the pokemon centers had places to pick up mail and send mail, but he wanted to say goodbye to Ms. Tollen also.

"That's fine, dear," She said, taking the envelope, "I'll have Flappers take it this afternoon." Flappers was her Tranquill.

"You're the best, Ms. Tollen. I'll see you around!" Lysand gave Ms. Tollen a brief hug before heading out the door, and back so he could hopefully meet up with his friends before they got too far.

OOC: This isn't canon, so encounters can be random.
Roy and Espurr encounter an Eevee. "Alright, Espurr, you ready for battle?" He asks her. Espurr nods. "Great! Use Hidden Power!" He shouts. Espurr fires red orbs of energy at Eevee, it lands a direct hit. Eevee uses Swift and it hits Espurr. "Espurr, wrap it up with Psychic!" Roy says. A blue light envelops Eevee, and it causes some damage. Eevee becomes much weaker. "Go, Poke Ball!" He says as he throws a Poke Ball. It shakes, and Eevee is captured. "Yes! Our first Pokemon!" He says excitedly. He heads over to Espurr and hugs her. "Eevee, come on out!" He says. Eevee appears timid and sits. He pets her and she calms down.

OOC: I have to go run a few errands, and should be back in a bit.

Lysand met the two boys where they are catching pokemon. "Okay poochyena, let's try to make a new friend." He searches for a bit before seeing a strange twitching hand shape poke out of the grass.

"Poochyena, use tackle at the hand, thing!" Lysand called, directing poochyena to attack. She took off, directly hitting the pokemon. From the grass rose a purple monkey. "Hit it with a fire fang!" The other pokemon was quick though, and managed to dodge poochyena's attack. It came at poochyena, claws ready to scratch Lysand's pokemon. Poochyena just barely dodged, and bit the Aipom.

"That's good poochyena," Said Lysand, as he tossed a pokeball at the Aipom. Poochyena scurried back, as the two watch the pokeball shake thrice, and then a small click. Lysand had caught his first pokemon.

Orlando caught up to his friends, and showed them what he was up to in the morning, "hey guys, sorry I wasn't around! But look who I caught: fluffy!" Fluffy the mareep smiled, happy to be out of Flocessy Ranch.

"We've all found our second Pokemon! Fantastic!" Roy exclaims. Eevee and Espurr both happily cry. "Are we ready for the first Gym Leader?" He asks. Perhaps I should look for another Pokemon...? Eevee and Espurr climb onto his shoulder.

Orlando agreed, "Yup, let's take on the gym leader!"
OOC: I have an idea: for the gym leaders, we only show one battle, and assume the rest beat the leader? How does that sound?

OOC: Sounds cool, what order should we do it in?

"The first Gym is back in Aspertia City.. I believe he's a Normal-type specialist." Roy said.

OOC: that sounds good

"Can we train up a bit before we hit the gym?" Lysand asked the other two, "I just don't want to risk my pokemon getting that hurt." Poochyena could probably take on the gym, though Aipom might need a bit of training to get their battling together in order.

"Training sounds like a good idea, Espurr and Eevee could use a little training before our battle." Roy responds. "Maybe I'll catch another Pokemon in the meantime."

"I think I'll go search for a Steel-type.. It might prove useful due to its resistance to Normal." He says as he begins to look around for Pokemon. He calls Eevee back to its Poke Ball and Espurr climbs onto his shoulder.

Extended Team History:

Moanna grew up outside of the Ice Path, on the outskirts of Blackthorne City. Her home was an inn, run previously by her mother Mary-Anne, but taken over by her father, Simon, after her mother’s untimely death. Being exposed to many trainers on their own travels, Moanna grew up desiring adventure. When she was old enough to wander off on her own, she began to slowly explore the ice caverns since she was, at the time, forbidden from going near the dragon cave. She made friends with the wild pokemon of the caverns and with their aid was able to explore deeper into the caverns that only experienced trainers could safely explore. During one of her explorations when she was seven, deep in the ice and snow of the caves, she found a sail fossil. When she brought back the fossil to show her father, he realized how deeply into the caves she would go and forbid her from entering the caves again. Moanna was very upset by this, but she would still go to the caves entrance and the cave’s pokemon would venture out on occasion to play with her in the snowy hills. It was during one of the hillside play sessions that Moanna caught a glimpse of Articuno; she was eight at the time.

Seeing Moanna’s love of pokemon, and also with the desire to keep her safe, Simon saved his money and had the sail fossil restored, presenting the amaura to Moanna on her tenth birthday. With her new pokemon, named Gale, Moanna pleaded with Simon to let her go on her own adventure, but he declined her wish, thinking that she was not experienced enough to be on her own and be safe. She was still forbidden from the dragon cave at this point, but Simon allowed her to venture into the ice caves once more now that she had her own pokemon by her side.

Over the years, with the help of the wild pokemon of the caves, Moanna and Gale trained hard together in order to go on their own adventure, fueled by the stories of the inn’s flow of trainers, and when Gale evolved into aurorus, Moanna was fourteen at the time, Moanna had the idea to challenge Blackthorne’s gym so she could prove how far the both of them had come. They both failed on their first attempt, but on their second try they earned the Rising Badge, and the gym leader Clair allowed her passage into the dragon cave. Moanna, after healing Gale, set out to the cave the same day and caught her first pokemon; a dratini she named Sinbad. With her badge and new pokemon, Moanna once again asked Simon if she could get her license to go on her adventure. Rather than giving her permission, her father determined she was getting to many ideas from the other trainers and closed the inn. Shortly after Moanna turned fifteen, he moved them to a new region, Hoenn, and they found their new home in a quiet treehouse in Fortree City.

Angered by the denial of her dream, Moanna ran away from home within the first few weeks of moving to Fortree. She wandered the grassy hills and wandered south, completely lost in the new region. With Gale and Sinbad by her side, however, and with her uncanny ability to befriend wild pokemon, no harm ever befell Moanna, and while travelling together Sinbad evolved into a dragonair.

Eventually, Moanna found herself outside Littleroot Town. While camping outside under the trees, a Ralts had wandered into their camp and sat by their campfire. After the wild Ralts had stayed with them for many days and seemed to have no intention of leaving, Moanna decided to capture it and named him Sweeney. Moanna turned sixteen not too long after, and while training in the forests outside Littleroot she met Professor Birch. He was very impressed with her ability to mingle with wild pokemon and got to know her over time. Moanna confided in him her desire to travel and to help wild pokemon. Without her knowledge, Birch contacted Simon and arranged a meeting between the two of them. Having their first words after Moanna had run away, the meeting between her and Simon did not go very well until Birch had expressed both sides’ feelings to the other. Simon understood that he could not hold on to his daughter forever, and agreed that if she returned with him and earned the badge from Fortree, he would help her get her papers to go on her own journey. Understanding how much she hurt her father by running away, Moanna agreed to the terms and returned to Fortree to train for another few years to earn the badge. Sweeney evolved into a kirlia during this time, and again into gardevoir.

Shortly before turning nineteen, Moanna successfully challenged the Fortree Gym and earned the Feather badge. On the day of her birthday, Simon presented Moanna with the papers necessary to venture on her own journey, along with another pokemon. The shiny feebas, named Lilo, he explained was his way of saying sorry for holding her back for so long and also that he believed that she would do great things. Moanna thanked him, telling him that the time had given her insight into her true dream. Though she wanted and loved travelling, she found out about her aura ability through training with Sweeney, and wanted to use this gift to help wild pokemon around the world and eventually, she hoped, she would be able to help Articuno, or another legendary pokemon.

Moanna sighed, her shoulders sagging, her muscles weary. The journey from Hoenn had been a long one, and she was glad to finally be off a boat and her stomach settled. The only problem, she had absolutely no idea where she was. She could see a small town in the distance and a boy with an Espurr on his shoulder close by. He held a pokeball in his hand, and Moanna recognized the smile of accomplishment that came with catching a new pokemon.
"Um, excuse me?" Moanna mumbled, her voice a whisper. She cleared her throat and asked a bit more clearly, "Excuse me! Do you know where I am?"

"You're in Aspertia City in the Unova region." Roy replied. He turns around and smiles at her. "Are you new here?" He asks. Espurr hides in his pocket, a bit shy of the new person.

"Ah, thank you." Moanna gave a small bow in thanks. "Yes, I've never been to Asperita City before, or the Unova region for that matter. I won this boat ticket off another trainer and I thought I would see where it went..." She noticed the Espurr hide, and gave a gentle smile. "Your Espurr seems very sweet. Have you been together a long time?"

"I'm sorry about that, she gets shy around new people." He responds. "She's a total sweetheart for sure, we've been together for several years. She's my best friend and partner." He smiles at Espurr.

"That's wonderful!" Moanna looked to the trees, happy that the first person she met in this new place was friendly. "So, um," Moanna blushed slightly, suddenly shy, "if you're out catching pokemon, do you mind if I tag along? I want to meet some of the wild pokemon but I get lost easy..."

"Sure thing! We're currently looking for a Steel-type ourselves." Roy happily said. He smiles and Espurr stops hiding and she smiles at you. "It seems you've earned Espurr's trust." He stated. I wonder what Steel-types are around these areas...? He begins to head towards the Flocessy Ranch.

Excited, Moanna followed Roy towards a ranch, trusting him to know the area. As they approached the ranch's fencing, Moanna could see that Roy was interested in finding a steel-type pokemon, with his gaze wandering towards every likely hiding place for a wild pokemon, and Moanna didn't know if she could be of much help.

On the other side of the fencing, she spotted a herd of skiddo grazing. Feeling hopeful, Moanna timidly approached the fence, walking slowly so as not to scare the grass types. Most of them wore bells around their necks, so she guess they belonged to whoever ran the ranch. The herd noticed her, lifting their heads and swiveling their ears in her direction. Moanna knelt in the grass, breathed deeply and tried to find her center of calm. One of the skiddo sniffed the air, then slowly left the herd and came to her, poking its nose through the fencing to smell and nuzzle her. Giggling, Moanna offered the skiddo a handful of grass, which it ate with fervor.

"Hello, friend," she said as she scratched the skiddo's ears. "Could you maybe help me?" The skiddo perked its ears, mouth full of grass, listening. "This guy, Roy, he's very nice, and he's looking for a steel type pokemon. Do you know where we could find any wild ones?" The skiddo seemed to think about her question, taking another handful of grass from her while it thought, then it looked towards a cluster of trees and bleated. Moanna smiled, giving the skiddo another thankful scratch behind the ears. "Thank you."

"Roy," Moanna called out, leaving the skiddo behind to catch up with the boy and his Espurr, who had started to wander a bit far from her on the trail. "I think we might have some luck in those trees, if you want to go look."

OOC: Hey, I'm back, I see we picked up a new friend!
Orlando looked for his friend, and wondered if he had caught his third pokemon yet. Orlando did not want anything else, and had spent the time training his turtwig and mareep.

Suddenly, Orlando saw a girl near Roy. "I wonder if he decided to shove his poke balls up her mouth instead of throwing them at steel types," he muttered sarcastically.
