Derek sighed. Another day. Another dollar. At least, that's what John had said. And John was doing well. He was happy. Off in L.A. But Derek was stuck here in Kansas City. As far as he was concerned, Kansas was the most boring state in the world. No beautiful landscapes. No amazing animals. Well, there was the buffalo. But other than that, there were a lot of squirrels, rabbits, and birds. How boring.
An old lady walked up to the counter, and began putting items onto the conveyor. The cashier rung them up, and slid them down to Derek. Derek kept bagging groceries. Suddenly, the computer by the cashier went dead. Then, the lights went out. A few people screamed. Derek pulled out his phone. No signal.
