Usually it involves overly grim and/or twisted back stories, angsty personalities and general overdoing of the "dark and gritty and misunderstood" sort of shenanigans. Usually edginess overlaps with emo-ness, but not always.

Not to say that every single character with a dark past and an angsty personality is by definition a vast edgelord! But usually, the 'too edgy' characters are ones that don't really have too much to them beyond The Edge, and they've been crafted that way because the creator (usually a 13 year old teen, often male but not always) thinks it's the coolest shit ever. XD

OH dear lord. XD Well, hopefully not all of my characters are like that (the only exception I could think up of is my character I made when I was 5 and decided to revive from the depths of ruined creativity). Do you know a good test to see how "edgy" my character is?

Every time I try to find a test, it's either on Quotev or some other site, and those tests are usually taken for fun and are not meant to be taken literally...

I think that all of us, at some point in our creative process, had a character or two that was unintentionally edgy or a bit of a sue. xD Unfortunately I'm not too aware of particular character tests like this - but really, I've come to the point in my particular evolution where I feel people should just write whatever they're comfortable with and, y'know, have fun, ^^

Yea, and with me it's dancing on the edge of edginess and sueness. XD Although, it's very difficult, for me, to create a character with no mental problems, as mental problems are very interesting to research and use in a RP setting, even if it is quite minimal. XD And I'm glad you think that because I'm not sure how well my creations would last if that weren't the case. XD

Research is important - and yes, quite interesting! Characters should have flaws, it's kind of what makes them compelling. The problem starts, I feel, where people either make characters with no flaws - or that the universe bends around them so much that their flaws are basically ignored by everyone... Or when they create characters who are nothing _but_ flaws, and expect people to give a damn about them.

As in all things - a healthy balance is what makes things ^^

Ahh yes... Too bad this is neglected just about as much as themselves.... (I'm sorry... Too soon?)

Eh, people need to learn somehow. Can't get awesome without failing at first and all that. Sometimes they just need a push in the right direction. Sometimes the right direction just happens to be a spike pit? It builds character! (And some people need all the help in character building they can get.) XD

A spike pit. XD Oh my! True, true... But I think a hell-splosion of missiles, bombs, and bullets would be "just practical" enough to build character. XD

I mean, we do want some of them to survive to actually learn from their mistakes! The elaborate weaponized Rube Goldberg Machines can be reserved for the ones that don't want to learn. XD

Ahh yes! Fred, what are you doing trying to catch criminals? Half the time, his elaborate methods don't work, while a Great Dane that can apparently talk with a guy that kind of looks like a pothead gets the job done on accident. XD

Sorry, that statement really reminded me of Scooby-Doo. XD
