Permission or credit is not an issue here. You are simply not allowed to post anything that you did not create yourself on the corner.

How about if I myself drew the original creator’s work? Would that still be allowed? Or would it still be considered taking their work?

That depends - if you draw fan art of someone else's creation in your style, that's fine. If you trace it or copy it too close to the source, that's not allowed by our rules.

The one thing that is acceptable (aside from the expections I've already stated) is collaborations, but only so long as you've done a substantial part of the work and have the permission of the other person you collaborated with to post the thing. (Credit to the other contributor is also required, and preferably a link)

Well, you can't make a work explicitly to just be a link - that's not what the corner is for. However, if I'm not mistaken what you're trying to do is put in some visual reference to the characters etc. you're using in the story, right?
