One day, across the world, strange black and purple portals appear. These portals suck up many people around the world (young trainers, ideally ages 10-12) and brings them to another world. You are one of those trainers. Having with you (only if you want it) a single Pokemon - your partner - you have to try to get back to your world.

The strange world you've landed in, however, is not some barren wasteland. It's a tropical paradise filled to the brim with Pokemon. The land is divided into a plethora of islands and has Pokemon colonies everywhere. These are (for the most part) independent from each other, and a quirk of fate causes each trainer to arrive in one.

Like Digimon, but with Pokemon. So should we get like three stage Pokemon or whatever. Oh yeah, I'm in by the way.

Some of these villages (the most important ones) protect a set of ruins, which contain inside of it an elemental amulet. These amulets are the key, and only those chosen by the amulet can use its elemental power. Bonding with the Pokemon and teaming up with your fellow trainers will be the only way to return to the regular world of Pokemon.

1. No, not like Digimon.
2. Well, it depends. I'm going to set a limit on the fully-evolved Pokemon a player can have.

I mean like the set up in the original series with the main kids ending up in the Digimon world with no idea what's going on. That aspect, but not really the newer series.

Well... I guess? Maybe? I doubt the kids in Digimon get magical element-controlling amulets, however.

Yeah, but they get Digivices. There are a lot of similarities, to the overall idea.

Two good questions!
1) You can totally be one of the partners. Only thing is, though, that you should probably be a human as well.
2) Yes, the Pokemon can talk. Forgot to add that, actually! Thanks for the reminder! I'm explaining it through some strange energy in this new world.
