What is the difference between jpg and png?

It's a fairly complicated technical thing, so I'm not sure how to explain all the differences in plain English, sorry.

As simply as I can, rhe two main differences are that JPG doesn't allow transparency whereas PNG does; and JPG is lossy – which means it makes your image look slightly worse but makes it take up less space – whereas PNG is lossless, so it keeps all the quality in exchange for making a slightly bigger file. Both are useful in different situations.
