Welcome back to Pokécharms! We've recently launched a new site and upgraded forums, so there may be a few teething issues as everything settles in. Please see our Relaunch FAQs for more information.
Yay! As for the format, I think we should just stick to plain ol' Singles OU just because the other two are broken in their own ways. Don't really need to explain National Dex AG, and Doubles can be broken with stuff like Follow Me or the all famous Wonder Guard, Water/Ground type strat. I really don't mind too much what you pick, though. It's your tournament.
I know someone said they didn’t want Doubles because there are OP strats there, but you could make the same arguement for any tier out there. I like doubles because there are so many opportunities for teamwork and strategy, and team synergy is great. I’m down for either, but I don’t want Doubles taken out of consideration.
Half the battle is a good knowledge of Pokémon, which I know you have. And even if you can’t remember typings or what outspeeds what, Showdown has things that show you those if you hover over the Pokémon with your mouse. Another good bit of it is practice. (And I’d be willing to help with that part. I should have more time to do that now that I’m on summer vacation.)
The timer is optional on Showdown, so you can just request no timer. (One reason it’s there is to force people to not make you forfeit by thinking they’re not really there and that they’re never going to make a move. I call it Sansing.) And like I said, you can check both your own speed, and your opponents’ speed, by hovering over the Pokémon.
Remind me what all’s there and I’ll tell you what I think! Derp Lord is a pretty good Water Absorb user with access to great healing in Recover, Aggron is a massively defensive tank but is held back a bit by a Double weakness to Fighting and Ground. I haven’t really used Luxray, but I’ve heard Staraptor is pretty good.
Luxray isn't part of the official team. The official team is Quagsire (Derp Lord), Aggron (Aaron), Pangoro (Butch, the TRUE panda), Staraptor (Star), A-Ninetails (Aurora), Lampent (Candle).
Ooh, I’m pretty sure Pangoro is a useful Pokémon. I don’t remember using it personally, but it’s pretty tough. A-Ninetales is great, and I have used it previously. Lampent would probably have to be Eviolite or Choice Scarf/Specs to be useful, though...
A-Ninetales is a great Ice type support, for Pokemon like Abomasnow and Weavile. Aurora Veil is overpowered, and the ability Snow Warning is an excellent ability that allows it to summon hail instantly. If you want to use A-Ninetales, you should run a non offensive Icy Rock set or Light Clay set. Actually, Lapras might be a good partner too, because with Aurora Veil up it becomes super tanky.
