It's a Japanese honorific, normally used for referring to close friends and such, also is the most informal of the honorifics I know of.

I think that's slightly more formal, but still somewhat informal or something.
I think it goes like -san, -sama, -kun and then -chan in order of most formal to least formal.

Kun is like Chan for boys
