I would get one. I would keep my DS Light. A browser is good if you dont have a browser on a phone and you can settle debates with friends by pulling out the DSi and searching what is needed (i do that with my iPhone XD)
Plus my DS Light is beggining to get old, id only use it for pal park and...
Pokemon was only meant to be a 10 year franchise and how long has it been going for now. Since 1995 so around 13-14 years.
This is a sign that the pokemon franchise wont cease for some time and even if the anime was to stop i believe the games would still be made.

If you look at all the games a female protagonist was first introduced in Silver/Gold/Crystal.

Its a very slim chance to get a starter in female form. If i remember correctly in FR/LG/R/S/E the chance was 12.37%.
