Writing Prompts: Writing Prompts: 29

by RenzFlintrock

RenzFlintrock "This is all your fault."

"I hope so."
I stared at him, eyes brimming with tears. My friends laid prone nearby, in pain, or if they were lucky, in blissful unconsciousness. And it was all because of her.

The world was on the brink of disaster. Because of her.

My home was gone. Because of her.

And I was on my last legs, with barely any fight left in me. Because of her.

"This is all your fault."

The words came from my throat in a dry rasp. My knuckles whitened as I clutched the hilt of my weapon. I knew I would have to fight.

Her voice came with a horrid chuckle. I hated that voice, that laugh.

"I hope so. My plans have almost been achieved. Everything has gone as I had hoped. The only thing left in my way is you... and that's nothing, really."

She came on with a fury, raining down blow after blow. I parried frantically, but I still took a hit, and then another. Too many. I thought I was done for, but then the attacks relented. I drew a breath, a much needed gasp of relief. But then I saw why her attack had paused. A rolling gout of green fire streamed towards me, and I closed my eyes. I wanted to see my friends and remember all the good times I had before I died, not the evil magic of my opponent.

I felt the warmth.

And then I was gone.
