Writing Prompts: Writing Prompts: 19

by RenzFlintrock

RenzFlintrock Today's prompt, ladies and gentlemen:

"Small fire! I said to light a SMALL FIRE!"
"Small fire! I said to light a small fire!"

The guard scurried over to the small inferno built by the tramp. It had started out as only a few small scraps of cloth and cardboard. Now it was too big, bigger than it possibly could have been with the amount of fuel available.

"Put it out! Put it out, quickly!"

The guard half screamed at the tramp. He danced around the flames, trying to stomp on the borders of the conflagration without getting himself singed. The tramp merely giggled, making no move to help. The guard turned to beg him for help, but he halted when he caught sight of the 'tramp.' Where the dirty man had stood, there was now a strange creature. It was much, much shorter. Its skin had a reddish tint that came from more than the glow of the flames, and from its forehead sprouted two small horns. At was twiddling its fingers, and more small flames sprouted from it, and now it was cackling and giggling with glee.

"You can't put it out, no you can't, no you can't!"

It chanted as it hopped from foot to foot. The guard gasped and stumbled backwards, nearly falling into the flames as he did. For they had begun to spread, growing slowly closer to the warehouse. Though the ground was damp from the melting snow and there was nothing for the flames to feed on, still they crept steadily closer and closer, and there was nothing the guard could do.

"You imp! Stop this, stop it, STOP IT!"

The guard implored the tormenting creature, but to no avail. The creature merely stepped into the flames and disappeared. The guard wailed and cursed as he tried to get rid of the flames, but there was nothing he could do. Doom was upon him and everything around him.
