Too Slow

by Willow Whisp

Willow Whisp Bonnie always tried to be strong for her brother. She always acted happy, even though she was falling apart inside. One night, she desperately tries to reach out to Clemont, before it is too late.
(A/N: This was written by both me and Manager Piplup through role play. She played Clemont beautifully, and I appreciate her giving me permission to turn our role play into a one shot.)

Bonnie and Clemont were just entering the one room apartment they shared on one of the floors below the Lumiose City Gym. They were both in an unusually bad mood. Bonnie had, once again, tried to find Clemont a girlfriend, which humiliated him. In return, he was ignoring her. Bonnie was surprised at how childish he was acting. But then again, she acted childish too. Bonnie didn't like seeing her brother sad, so she decided to lighten up the mood with a joke.

Bonnie: Why are you acting like a two year old, brother?

Nothing. He didn't even acknowledge her. Now, she was determined to get him to stop. So, Bonnie tackled Clemont, and pinned him to the ground,

Bonnie: WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY BROTHER?! I'LL TEACH YOU TO POSSESS MY BROTHER, YOU CRANKY TWO YEAR OLD. DEDENNE USE DISCHARGE!

Clemont: WAI-

It was too late. Dedenne used his newly learned move perfectly, electrocuting Clemont.

Bonnie: Now, who are you really?

Clemont rolled his eyes, but gave in.

Clemont: I am Clemont, the Lumiose city gym leader, and your big brother.

Bonnie: Good.

Bonnie got off of him and sat on her bed. Clemont preceded to do the same. He started sketching on his notepad. Curiously, Bonnie asked what he was drawing.

Clemont: I am designing a machine that will make you stop talking to me.

Bonnie was very hurt by this comment, but refused to show it.

Bonnie: It will probably blow up after 5 minutes. That is what happens 99% of the time with your inventions.

Clemont: NOT EVERYTHING I MAKE EXPLODES! MY CLEMBOT AND AIPOM ARM WORK PERFECTLY!

Bonnie: I said 99% of the time, genius.

Clemont grumbled some explicit words, clearly angry. Bonnie, decided to try and joke with him to get him to cheer up. It was already bad enough that she was hurting inside, but she didn't want her brother upset too. Especially since he didn't know how to hide it as well as she did.

Bonnie: I love my job! Getting you a girlfriend, making sure you aren't nuts, I love every part of it.

In truth, she really didn't. Bonnie wished that her brother wasn't so anti-social. If he was normal, it would give her a chance to focus on her own issues. Bonnie was snapped out of her thoughts by Clemont's irritated response.

Clemont: You don't get paid.

Bonnie smirked playfully.

Bonnie: That's what you think, Buster.

Clemont remained, much to Bonnie's dismay, unamused.

Clemont: Let me guess, Dad pays you to find me a girlfriend.

Bonnie: Maybe.

Clemont was tired of playing these games.

Clemont: Oh Arceus, what have I done to deserve this?

Bonnie: Nothing. Technically, I'm doing you a favor. It must get lonely talking to machines that blow up after a few minutes.

Bonnie's voice had an unusually serious tone to it. This tone caused Clemont to feel a sort of resent towards his sister for being right.

Clemont: DO YOU KNOW WHAT A RHETORICAL QUESTION IS?!

Bonnnie: Yup.

Clemont facepalmed. It was just like his sister to joke around when he was actually feeling bad. At least, that is what he believed.

Clemont: Also, I do not only talk to machines.

Bonnie: Ok then. When is the last time you voluntarily talked to a girl your age?

Clemont: I-heh-um... I got it! Oh wait, nevermind.

Bonnie rolled her eyes, then got even more personal.

Bonnie: Exactly. Listen, I do it because I wont be here forever to drive you crazy and to talk to you. So, when I am gone, I don't want you to only have machine friends that last no more than 5 minutes.

Bonnie was shocked by her openness to explaining why she goes girlfriend hunting for her brother, but kept her composure.

Clemont: Clembot and my Aipom arm are still fine and also I don't talk to them.

Bonnie: Exactly. You don't talk to your machines because I am here. But, what about when I am not with you?

Bonnie was starting to get a little emotional now,

Bonnie: What then Clemont? Are you really okay with just having Clembot and your Aipom arm as your only companions?

Clemont was surprised by his sister's solemn tone.

Clemont: Bonnie, I already said they don't talk and also, I'm OLDER THAN YOU! I will be gone before you. Especially if I have another run in with a berry bush.

Clemont chuckled at his own joke, but Bonnie ignored the joke and continued with the main argument.

Bonnie: What does age have to do with it? Mom was younger than dad, and she stil-

Bonnie was starting to tear up now, but continued her sentence.

Bonnie: still went away before him.

Now Clemont was upset. he didn't like talking about his late mother.

Clemont: Bonnie, you know how I get when you talk about mother.

Bonnie made her way to the balcony. The sky was unusually clear tonight.

Bonnie: Don't you see through those ridiculous glasses? It could happen to anyone! I always worry if I wont wake up the next morning, or if I will leave you all alone. Because, even if you wont admit it, you don't like being alone either.

Bonnie was now fully in tears. Clemont didn't know how to react, so he went with his first instinct.

Clemont: Bonnie... my glasses are perfectly fine-

Bonnie turned around sharply to faced her brother.

Bonnie: THAT IS WHAT YOU GOT OUT OF THAT?!

Clemont now went into lecture mode, as Bonnie called it.

Clemont: You know what we talked about...never interrupt your big brother while he's talking to you.

Bonnie: WELL SOMEONE HAS TO! YOU DON'T EVEN REALIZE HOW MUCH IT HURTS ME TO THINK THAT YOU COULD BE ALONE! HOW MUCH IT HURTS ME TO BE AND FEEL ALONE! YOU DON'T EVEN STOP TO CONSIDER IT!

Clemont was speechless.

Clemont: Bonnie...

Bonnie's face all of the sudden became very calm. She sighed and continued.

Bonnie: You know what, I am done. Done with you, done with finding you a girlfriend, done with life.

Bonnie stepped up to the balcony, now facing the moon, her tear streaked face shining in the light. It took Clemont a second to realize what she was going to do, but once he did, he was so fear stricken that he couldn't move.

Clemont: HOLY ARCEUS BONNIE DON'T YOU THINK ABOUT GOING TO BE WITH MOTHER!

Bonnie climbed up onto the railing, and was now facing her brother.

Bonnie: Why not? You obviously don't worry. And, you know how I hate to feel alone. Well, I am about to change that. Mother will make me whole again. She will understand me in a way you can't.

Clemont, still paralyzed by fear, was now panicking.

Clemont: Bonnie, please don't do this! You were right, I hate being alone, but I-

Bonnie stood up onto the balcony, tossed her pokeball onto her bed, and spread her arms out, before saying her final words.

Bonnie: Goodbye, big brother. You were always too slow...

Bonnie smiled sadly at her brother, before leaning back, and falling off.

Clemont rushed to the balcony with tears in his eyes, screaming.

Clemont: BONNIE! NOOOOO!!

He heard a soft thud, which scared him more than the loudest noise anyone could have made. He ran down the tower and rushed out the door, to find a tiny human sprawled out on the concrete. His sister.

Clemont sunk to his knees.

Clemont: No, no, no, NO NO NO!

He continued to sob, and sob. He held the child in his arms. She was still wearing the ghostly white dress up gown that she had gotten that day, except now it was soaked in blood. He remembered how he had said that he was building an invention to stop her from speaking to him. But now, Clemont would give anything for her to speak to him one last time. To annoy him one last time. To ask a girl out for him one last time. So tell him how slow he was one last time. To say she loved him, one last time.

(Manager Piplup wrote a happy part two to this (she is a fan of corny endings) if you guys want to see it, just let me know.)
