Isaac entered Pewter City from Viridian Forest, Bulbasaur still in hand. "So, I guess we challenge the gym from here. Do you know anything about battling?" He held Bulbasaur up by his arms, looking into his eyes. "Bulba. Bulba saur." Isaac put him back into his arms. "Yeah, you said that last time. Any normal person would go to the Pokemon center, but you seem to be fine after eating all those berrys. So I guess that means our first battle is against a Gym leader. I know we should be worried, but I think we have like 4x type advantage." He then realised he was just standing there talking to his pokemon, that wasn't even interested. "I guess we just have to go then."
He walked into Pewter Gym, just after he put Bulbasaur into his pokeball. "Yeah, uh, I'm here to challenge Brock." The old man at the door spoke back. "Just go that way." He walked up two staircases to reach a rocky hill, where Brock stood. "Oh, a new challenger. Well, step up and show me what you got! Go, Onix!" Brock sent out his Pokemon. Isaac sent out Bulbasaur. "Listen Bulbasaur, since I only have one Pokemon he's only allowed to use one as well. You've got this. Go wipe the floor with him." Bulbasaur turned around and started trying to talk to Isaac, completely oblivious of the huge Pokemon behind him. "Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!" Bulbasaur seemed to realise he was in a battle, and charged towards the towering rock snake Pokemon, headbutting into it and bouncing backwards, landing on his butt. Onix seemed unfazed. "I said Vine Whip, not Tackle!" Onix started to look around awkwardly. Both him and Brock weren't sure what they should do. "Vine Whip!" Isaac continued to yell, even attempting to mime the action. Bulbasaur just stared at him blankly. "Oh dang you don't know Vine Whip yet do you. I done goofed." Brock cut in. "Onix, use Rock Tomb!" Onix called down a heavy storm of rocks, but Bulbasaur just got up and walked away, leaving the attacks radius in just the nick of time. "Bulbasaur, use whatever move you don't have that's Tackle!" Bulbasaur looked back at Isaac, and proceeded to launch two vines at Onix, slapping it down to the ground with a mighty thud. A look of pure confusion appeared on Isaac's face. "Y'know what? Just keep doing... whatever you're doing." Brock yelled a command to Onix. "Use Bind!" Onix started to slither around the ground, encircling Bulbasaur with it's whole body, and gradually closing inwards. Before the rocks of Onix's body made impact, Bulbasaur used his vines to boost him over Onix, slapping Onix with them on the way. However, Onix had no time to stop, continuing on with the move, crashing it's head into it's tail, and uncurling over the floor. "Come on Onix! Get up, you can do it!" Onix pulled itself up from the ground, towering over Bulbasaur. "Now, Rock Tomb!" Onix called heavy rocks to tumble down from the sky, in a column directly towards Bulbasaur. "Dodge it!" Bulbasaur slid out of the way, using it's vines to boost itself up into the air and slapping Onix on the side of it's face with them on the way. Isaac was surprised when the powerful Rock Snake Pokemon fell to the floor, crashing through the rocks that it had called down. Onix was knocked out!
Brock retracted Onix to it's pokeball, and went over to Isaac, handing him a metallic badge. "Congratulations, you deserve this. Your Bulbasaur certainly has a lot of potential." Isaac didn't know how to respond. "Uh, yeah. I guess. Well, i assume I have to go to Cerulean City now." He picked up Bulbasaur, and walked out of the gym, looking at the shiny badge in his hand.
