Fantasy RP Ideas: The History of Magerra

by Dapper_Cat

Dapper_Cat Title is pretty self-explanatory. The history of the Elves being introduced to the Gatandres, Lufenus, and the Humans. Also explains where slavery originated and how the Lykoire and Felinar came to be.
History

The land of Magerra was originally inhabited solely by the Elven people and the monsters that resided in the mountains and small pockets of other areas on the continent. For the most part, the Elven people lived peaceful lives, with the exception to the occasional monster attack. Things took a turn around seventeen-thousand years ago, when the Elves came across the Gatandres and the Lufenus. The Elves brought them to their capital of Orea. However, because of their drastic differences in culture and views on the world, the meeting ended in bloodshed. This resulted in what the Elves labled "The Beast War" and the "First Contact War," though the former is more frequently used.

The Beast War

While the Gatandres focussed on guerilla-style hit-and-run attacks, the Lufenus charged forward with military discipline. After the fall of several major Gatandres cities and two thousand years of fighting, the war ended when the Lufenus stormed the Gatandres capital, Kyatto. They killed men who stood in their way, though they took women, children, and unarmed men prisoner. They killed everyone else and burned Kyatto to the ground. During the war, millions of both people died. It is estimated that over that period, the death count surpassed one billion if the two lists of casualties were put together. After the war was over and the Gatandres splintered into tribes, all the Prisoners of War that the Lufenus had collected were released to do as they pleased. Those that had been taken prisoner were actually treated well, considering most were women and children.

Humanity

Ten thousand years after the Beast War ended, a tribe of Gatandres stumbled across something different to them: Humans. As per usual with the Gatandres, war ensued. However, unexpectedly, it wasn't the Gatandres who initiated the conflict. This course of action by the humans triggered what is now called the "Second Contact War." Many who call the First Contact War the "Beast War" often simply call the Second Contact War "The Contact War."

Before the Contact War, Humanity had been split into tribes, much like the Gatandres. However, reformations were made at the beginning of the Contact War, since Humanity had a common enemy.

The Contact War

The humans actually initiated the conflict. While they were not as advanced as the other races of Magerra, the Humans had a strong resolve and were very determined, which the other races respected. However, this did not stop the Gatandres and the Elves from taking on the humans. During this conflict, the Lufenus remained neutral. After many deaths over the course of a decade, the Elves and the Gatandres finally forced the Humans to surrender. One century later, they were welcomed into the community and began to prosper. This event is called "The Joining of The Four." There is still a lot of rivalry between Humanity and Elves. There was originally a lot of hostility between Humanity and the Gatandres, but that faded out over the years.

The Birth of the Hybrids

Out of the two hybrid species, the Lykoire were the first of the two. Becuase there were no tensions between the Lufenus and the Humans after the Contact War, the two people traded peacefully. However, some Lufenus that wandered near human cities were captured by hunters and sold into slavery. Because Gatandres usually didn't venture near humans and the thought of procreating with their recent enemies disgusted the Humans and Gatandres both, the Lykoire were the first of the Hybrid species. Both Hybrid species are widely considered attractive for humans and the Beast Race of which they are descended from. Because of this, it didn't take long for more Lykoire to start appearing in Magerra. The first Lykoire was born approximately twenty years after the end of the Contact War. About three years after The Joining of The Four, the first Felinar was born. Just like with the Lykoire, both Humans and Gatandres found the Hybrid race to be attractive, though both were still disdainful of them being half-breeds, many couldn't help themselves.

While many freed Felinar took to thievery and assassination jobs to get by, the Lykoire usually have more honest work. Many of them work as soldiers or mercenaries for local lords. They are also naturally gifted sailors.

Slavery

Slavery was originally a completely foreign concept in Magerra. The Elves never lost anyone to the monsters that occasionally plagued the land, save for a few deaths. The concept originated with the Gatandres during the Beast War. They took slaves from villages and cities they conquered or destroyed. Humanity had practiced slavery for as long as they could remember. Their first slaves were prisoners from other camps. This practice continued for both races during the Contact War. While slavery is currently outlawed in Elven Cities, the Lufenus strongholds, and the few villages run by Lykoire or Felinar, the Gatandres and the Humans still rigorously use slavery. Out of all the races, Felinar and Lykoire slaves are the most common.
