Shiny on the run.

by Red Gallade

Red Gallade This is a short tale about a Shiny Ralts on the run from a Pokémon hunter. (First written work btw)
Deep within the woods, a Ralts ran through the woods as fast as he could, but unlike other Ralts, this one was as blue as the sky... a shiny. He looked back as he noticed someone was following him, he heard the rumors of what happened to most shinies and the misfortune of being one. He continued to run down the cold and wet path and felt his heart skip a beat when he heard shouting "There it is! Get 'em Weavile!" Ralts began to run faster as he heard the panting of a Weavile who was close on his tail.

"My master says I should take you in, stop running and make this easier for the both of us!" The Weavile demanded as he drew closer and closer to his target. Ralts felt a tear fall from his eyes as he ran, clearly he was terrified of being caught. He looked ahead and noticed he was running toward the edge of a cliff, he halted just in time; any closer and he would have fallen into the stream below.
He turned around, heavily breathing in both fear and exhaustion as he noticed the Pokémon hunter and his Weavile both smiling sinisterly at their cornered prey. "You gave us quite the run, mate." The hunter said in a hoarse voice. Ralts tried to fight back by using Confusion, but it was no use against the Dark type Weavile who laughed at the attempt. They both began to slowly move closer and closer to the Ralts. "You're gonna fetch a great price on the market, Weavile, Ice beam!" the hunter commanded, Weavile shot a freezing cold beam toward Ralts who dodged the attack, only to slip and fall into the stream of water below!
"No, damn it!" The hunter cried as he watched his prize get carried away by the river. Ralts struggled to keep his head above the water as the latter pulled him along with the current. After struggling for what seemed like ages, Ralts finally found a rock in the middle of the river's path and used every once of energy he could to get on it. He coughed as he climbed on to the rock and lied down with his back against it, he looked up to the sky and panted faintly.
"Help me... someone... anyone..." Ralts said faintly before he fell unconscious on the rock he resided on, with little regard if the hunter was still after him. After an hour, something began to emerge from the water, Ralts woke up only to see the underwater creature appear before him, it was a Floatzel, who looked curiously at the Ralts briefly before speaking.
"You're a lot different from any Ralts I've ever seen; You're resting on a rock in the middle of the river and you have a different color as well." Ralts looked back at the Floatzel, still cautious after his recent incident. "I-I'm a shiny..." Ralts replied. "And I was... chased here by a hunter..." he added. The Floatzel attempted to get on the rock that Ralts was on. "Well you're certainly lucky to have found that rock when you did. Don't you have a home to get back to?" He asked.
"I... can't return home..." Ralts said sadly. "My family... they sent me away because my color makes me attract predators and hunters..." he added. Floatzel looked at Ralts with sympathy. "I'm terribly sorry to hear that, must be tough being a shiny..." He went to comfort Ralts. "How about I help you across this river, yeah?" He offered with a smile.
Ralts looked up at Floatzel with a smile. "You mean it?" He asked. Floatzel jumped over him and into the water before emerging with his back out. "Does this answer your question?" He replied. Ralts jumped on to Floatzel's back and the two began to make their way down the river.

After what seemed like hours, Floatzel and Ralts began to find land and made their way to it, once they arrived, Ralts instantly got off and bowed at Floatzel with gratitude. "Thank you so much, I think I can continue from here." Ralts said before he turned around to walk away, only to be stopped by Floatzel. "Oh no you don't; you're not going out there all on your own, what if the hunter finds you? I'm coming with you." He said with a confident smile. Ralts was surprised at the offer; the two had only just met and Floatzel was already offering his aid. "Why?" Ralts asked. "We only just met, why are you helping me?"

"Because it's the right thing to do." Floatzel replied. "Let's get you to a place where we know you'll be safe." Ralts was caught off guard at the sudden generosity, even after his help across the river. "Okay." Ralts said with a smile before he turned toward the woods and began to make is way through them, Floatzel followed behind him.

The sun was setting as the pair traversed the woods, they passed a few Pokémon who gave the Ralts a curious look given that the latter was shiny. The silence of the woods was interrupted by a strange rumble. "What was that?!" Ralts asked with a cautious look of his face only to look at a now embarrassed Floatzel. "Haha... that was me... all this walking's made me hungry." Ralts looked to Floatzel with a curious look. "Yeah... I'm hungry too..." He said as the pair began looking for food, only to find some berries on the branches of a tall tree. "Oh now those look good." Floatzel said, he attempted to climb up the tree, only to slip back down. Ralts tried his best not to laugh at his attempt. Floatzel looked back with a somewhat vexed look.

"Ha ha, very funny. It's not like you can get them, can you?" Floatzel asked with a raised eyebrow. "Does this answer your question?" Ralts replied with a smile as he used confusion to pull several berries off the tree. "Nice one, buddy." Floatzel commended as he helped himself to some of the berries, Ralts did the same.

The pair both sighed in relaxation after eating followed by Floatzel letting out a belch. "Man, those really hit the spot." He said. "Yeah..." Ralts said before he drifted to sleep, unintentionally leaning against Floatzel, who smiled warmly and pulled him in lightly. "Goodnight..." He said warmly before drifting to sleep.

When the sun rose, the pair woke up to find the situation they were in, Floatzel smiled warmly at Ralts. "Morning." he said. Ralts blushed lightly and abruptly stood up. "Morning." He replied. "We should get moving." He added. Floatzel stood up and nodded. "Alright, lead the way, kiddo." The two began to make their way through the forest and found a wide meadow of flowers blooming in many different colors. "Wow!" Ralts said in awe. "Look at all the flowers!" he added. Floatzel smiled. "Yeah, absolutely beautiful." He replied before noticing a few Pokémon within the meadow. "Hey, look, maybe these guys can help us, let's go." He said as he picked up Ralts and put him on his shoulders. Ralts laughed a little at the fact he was given a piggyback ride.

Upon closer inspection, the group of Pokémon consisted of a Florges, Tsareena and Lilligant who were all chatting within the flowers, Lilligant was the first to notice the pair approaching them. "Hello ladies." Floatzel said as he nodded lightly. "I don't mean to disturb, but do any of you know a good place where my little friend can be safe?" He added. The trio looked at the Ralts with awe and curiosity. "Wow, I've heard of your kind, but I never saw one in person." Lilligant said. "Indeed, it's great you're protecting this poor thing." Florges added. "There's a special valley just North East from here where shinies are taken to stay safe; I even hear that hunting shinies there is forbidden for humans as the valley is a sacred place." Tsareena said as she pointed in said direction.

Floatzel bowed his head in gratitude. "Thank you so much ladies." He said as he began to walk in the direction to the valley. "Yeah, thanks!" Ralts said as he waved to the Pokémon upon leaving. The Pokémon waved back. "Your welcome!" Tsareena said. "Watch out for those hunters!" Florges added. "Good luck!" Lilligant said before they returned to their conversation. Floatzel looked up at Ralts as he carried him on his shoulders. "Well kid, next stop: The valley."

As the pair made their way to the valley, the came across a canyon with an old bridge. Floatzel gave an annoyed sigh. "Typical..." He grumbled. "Hold tight, kid." Ralts nodded and did as he was told. Floatzel began to slowly cross the bridge, scared at the fact that some of the planks could break at any moment... Their silence in concentration was interrupted by familiar shouting. "He can't be too far now!" Ralts felt his blood rush as he noticed the hunter who chased him earlier had already caught up to him. "Hurry, he's after me!" Ralts panicked and held Floatzel even tighter. Floatzel looked back only to see the hunter and his Weavile charging toward the pair. "Crap!" Floatzel cried as he began to run the rest of the way across the bridge, but before he could make it, the last plank cracked beneath him and tripped over.

Ralts safely rolled over the cliff whilst Floatzel hung on the edge, struggling to get up. On the other side of the bridge, the hunter laughed at how close he was. "Now I've got ya! Weavile, Ice beam!" He shouted. Weavile let out a harsh Ice beam toward Ralts, only to be blocked by Floatzel's water gun. "Run!" Floatzel cried to Ralts. "Save yourself, go!" he added. "No, not without you!" Ralts replied as he used Confusion to pull Floatzel to safety. "Oh right... I forgot, heheh." Floatzel said with clear embarrassment. "Don't let them escape!" The hunter demanded as Weavile attempted to cross the bridge. Ralts and Floatzel looked at eachother and nodded, they kicked the ends of the bridge, causing it to break and fall. Weavile looked in surprise as he was about to fall down the canyon, only to be saved by the hunter returning him to his Poké ball.

Ralts and Floatzel ran off whilst the hunter fell to his knees and punched the ground in anger of his failure. He looked at his Poké ball containing Weavile and scoffed as he put it in his pocket and walked off. Ralts and Floatzel continued to run until they could no longer see the hunter pursuing them. They panted and looked at each other with a smile. They resumed their walk until they came across a valley as wide and open as the eye could see, all the Pokémon there were just like Ralts; they were shiny, apart from the Golurks who appeared to be the guardians of the valley.

"We made it..." Floatzel said. "We actually made it." He added as he couldn't believe what he saw. Ralts looked around and was pleased to know how happy the shinies were. "Yeah... I'm finally free..." He said, clearly not as excited as he sounded. "What... what will you do now?" He asked. Floatzel looked at Ralts with a sad look on his face. "Sadly kid... I'm afraid this is where we part ways..." Ralts looked with surprise. "But why?! We can both stay here together!" He added as tears started to fall from his eyes. Floatzel got down on his knees and smiled "I know, and I want that more than anything else, but there may be other Pokémon out there who need help, and I need to be there for them, like I was with you... please don't cry; this isn't goodbye." He said as he wipes away Ralts' tears.

"I understand..." Ralts said before he rushed in and hugged Floatzel tight. Floatzel smiled and hugged back. "Stay safe kid, see you around..." He said before he left. Ralts waved his friend goodbye before he turned and headed toward his fellow shiny Pokémon who all greeted him with open arms. Ralts was free.

The End.
