Green Arrow: Eternal: S1E2: Queen Takes (On) Wayne

by Mechanist Gamma

Mechanist Gamma After a visit with Dr. Pieter Cross, Oliver begins heading home... but on the way, he notices an old homeless shelter formerly supported by Queen Consolidated. The support ended once the company was sold to Wayne Industries. It's time for Oliver to express his grievances with the management.

This episode runs parallel to @Mockingchu's Batman: Eternal series - specifically Season 2, Episode 2. If you want to see things from Bruce's perspective, read it here!: https://pokecharms.com/works/season-2-episode-2-return-of-the-queen.44573/

As you can probably tell, this is the second part in my Green Arrow: Eternal series that's part of Mockingchu's DC: Eternal story. And since it runs parallel to his, what else would Episode 2 be?
“And that should be everything.” Doctor Pieter Cross said, applying the band-aid to Oliver’s cheek. “Just keep applying the medicine I gave you every day and you should be good.”
“Thanks, doc.” Oliver said with a smile. “It’s a good thing you’re still willing to treat someone like me.”
“That was my father, Oliver.” Pieter replied. “Remember, I’m PIETER Cross, not Theodoric Cross. My father’s in Norway.”
“Ah, right. Still gotta get used to that.” Queen said, standing up. “You’re sure you got everything, right?”
“What kind of doctor would I be if I didn’t make sure I did the best job I could for my patient?”
“Fair point.” Queen replied. “Anyways, if we’re done here, I’m headed back home.”
“Make sure you take your medicine!” Pieter handed the bag to Oliver before he left. The former billionaire nodded, taking the bag. He waved as he left the building.

Walking down the street, Oliver looked at an old, broken-down home. Walking up, he observed the rickety old sign. It said “Helping Home for the Homeless”. He knew he could keep walking home, but Oliver wanted to check it out. Walking in, he saw an old lady at the deteriorating front desk.
“Can I help you?” she asked.
“It depends. Do you know what this place is?” Oliver asked, looking around at the peeling paint and dusty floor.
“It used to be a sanctuary for the homeless.” the woman replied. “Where those without a home could find a home, and loving friends that had experienced the same turmoil they had.”
“What happened to it?”
“What happens to most businesses like this. We ran out of money.” the woman said. “We were unable to keep up with the costs of keeping this place up, getting good food and clean water for all our residents, and eventually we were unable to improve. Nowadays, we can only barely afford the rent.”
“...if I can make my way back into my company, then I’ll sponsor this place.” Oliver said, looking around. “Spruce it up. Make it look good. Make sure the people living here can get what they need.”
“W-what is that supposed to mean?” the lady asked. “Make your way back into your company? Just who are you, anyways?”
“My name is Oliver Queen.” Oliver replied. “And I’m back from the dead.”
“You mean, Queen Consolidated…? Ah, they used to help us out, I believe.” the woman stated, pulling out an old sign like the one hanging over the door. It said “Queen’s Helping Home” on it.
This was a shock to Oliver. “Why’d they stop?”
“They sold to Wayne Industries. We stop receiving their charity money, then.”
Oliver clenched his fist. “What…?” Oliver then grabbed something out of his bag, putting it onto the woman’s desk. “Here’s $100. It’ll help for now.”
“T-thank you, Mr. Queen.” the woman said gratefully, clutching the money. “This’ll get our patrons a good dinner tonight.”
“And hopefully many more.” Queen replied, taking his bag over his shoulder and walking out of the room. Instead of going home, he decided there was something he needed to do first.
Wayne bought my company. He clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing with it. If I want to change things for people like that woman… I’m going to have to take my company back.
Oliver marched off towards Q-Core, main facility of Queen Consolidated.

As Oliver approached the tower, he saw a man leaning against a car with black sunglasses and a fancy tuxedo on. And here Oliver was in his track pants, white shirt and green vest. Looking at the car, he noticed the Wayne symbol on the hood. It was Bruce Wayne, the man he was looking for. Bruce noticed him, and Oliver gave a quick salute. Wayne walked over to him.
“Hello, Oliver.” Bruce said.
“Hi, Bruce.” Oliver replied.
“How’s being back?” Bruce asked as the two walked into Q-Core.
“Good.” Oliver stated. Small talk wasn’t what he was looking for, but he may as well get some socialization in. After five years with none, he needed to brush up on his social skills. Although it seemed that Bruce was taking his response as a signal to stop small talk. Oliver didn’t care enough to correct him.
Going to the top floor, the two entered the office of a Mr. Arthur King - apparently the new head of the company. Oliver remembered the office. It used to belong to his father. But neither his father nor Mr. King were in this office at the moment, only a secretary. Her name tag said Chloe Sullivan.
“Is there something you need?” she asked, obviously annoyed.
“Out.” Oliver ordered. He wanted to get down to business immediately, and didn’t want her in the way.
“Excuse me?” Chloe asked, taking off her glasses.
“I think Oliver wants to talk to me.” Bruce interjected. The woman closed the folder she had with her and left the room as Bruce and Oliver sat down on opposite sides of the desk. “You could use some brushing up on your social skills.”
“This is my company.” Queen stated, getting straight down to business.
“Oliver, I’m afraid I can’t give it back to you.” Wayne said. “Your parents sold it to me.”
“Sell it back to me.” Queen suggested.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that. This branch of Wayne Tech is very important.”
This was getting Oliver mad. Important? For WHAT? Putting more money into Bruce’s pocket instead of helping the people living on the streets? From what Oliver had heard, as soon as Wayne got his hands on his company he shut down the charity organizations. This isn’t a real branch of Wayne Tech, anyways. It's QUEEN Tech.
“I don’t care.” Oliver said, feeling his blood start to boil. “My company. Give it back.”
“Oliver-”
Bruce didn’t get to finish. Oliver grabbed his head and slammed it down on the table. “MY COMPANY!” he shouted, hardly aware of what he was doing if he even was. Bruce broke free from Oliver’s grasp by pushing off of the desk, sending the wood crashing into Oliver. He pushed it aside as he walked towards Bruce, who had slammed into the wall. He hardly knew what he was doing.
It’s just like the island. he thought, but they weren’t really his thoughts. Some major league douchebag trying to keep me from doing what’s right because they think they have all the power. Well, I’ll show them!
Oliver punched at Bruce, who dodged. Oliver’s fist went through the wall, getting him stuck for a second. He heard the door open and someone scream as Bruce tackled him to the ground, pressing his stomach to the floor. Oliver retaliated by jabbing Wayne in the chest, forcing him off as he got up. “My… company…” Oliver growled.
Behind him, Bruce said something, sitting up while clutching his chest. Oliver turned around, walking towards Bruce. Bruce held his arms up… and Oliver stopped. He recognized this sight, as he had seen it many times before. Someone being oppressed by the strong, the menacing. Someone submitting to not be bullied any further. Oliver had been trying to bully his way to what he wanted.
This realization snapped him out of it.
Oliver fell to his knees, grabbing a chair and pulling it over for Bruce. As the billionaire sat down, Oliver began to sob. “I-I’m sorry… the doctor said I might have these episodes…”
“Episodes?” Bruce asked.
“On… On the island… I had to hunt to survive. The doctor says I’ll get aggressive for a while…”
Bruce placed his hand on Oliver’s shoulder. “I forgive you.”
Moments later, security arrived. “Oliver Queen, you will need to come with us.” one of the security guards stated.
“It’s okay.” Bruce stated. “I have this handled.” He pulled Oliver to his feet and brought him into a hug.

“...so until you’ve got a clean bill of mental health, you can see why I can’t bring you back in. Plus, it’d be unfair to Arthur.” Bruce was saying as the two walked to the doors on the ground-level floor of the Q-Core.
“I understand.” Oliver said. “I need to prove myself, like everyone else. It’s just…”
“Just what?”
“I felt like you were messing up my company.” Oliver admitted, turning towards Bruce. “Did you know about Queen’s Helping Home? It’s a place the Homeless can go for food, water and shelter. Or was. Apparently, Queen Consolidated stopped supporting it five years ago.”
“I can assure you, I didn’t know about this.” Bruce stated. “I’ll be sure to investigate that matter. If there was a charity fund that got removed with the change of leadership, I’ll make sure that it’s reinstated.”
“Thank you, Bruce.” Oliver said with a nod, shaking Wayne’s hand. “I’d love to talk more about my future with the company at another time, if you’d let me.”
“All in due time. Do your best to sort out those anger problems of yours, first.” Bruce said with a helpful nod. He then hopped into his car. “See you later, Queen.”
“Later, Wayne!” Oliver shouted with a smile as Bruce drove off. When he left, Oliver found himself alone in the streets. His bag slung over his shoulder, Oliver walked away from Q-Core, feeling content for the time being.
I’ll come home, but not now. he thought with a smile. Next time, Q-Core. Next time I’ll be back for good.

Yeah yeah, I know, still no actual Green Arrow. Just wait for a bit longer. Oliver starts his vigilantism next time!
As usual, this series runs parallel to @Mockingchu's Batman: Eternal series, since it's part of his DC: Eternal universe. Check out Mockingchu's series to get more of a look at the world: https://pokecharms.com/series/batman-eternal.4946/
