Chapter 1
Piper opened her eyes. Her gaze was already facing her alarm, which hadn’t rung yet. She yawned and looked up at the ceiling. Hm… What was today again? Piper was pretty sure it was an important day.. She frowned. There must be something important today. Well.. She suddenly sat up. It was her eleventh birthday! The day she becomes a pokémon trainer! Her alarm beside her suddenly went off, as if to say. “Yup. Time for you to go!” She jumped out of bed and quickly ran to her clothes drawer. She quickly changed and then and raced downstairs. It seems her parents hadn’t woken up yet, which gave her time to eat breakfast. Piper basically scarfed down her breakfast and then ran to open the door. Suddenly she heard footsteps by the stairs. She realized it was her mom and turned around.
“Ah, you thought you were going to get away before we woke up?” Her mother joked. Piper laughed nervously, because originally that had been her plan. Her mother saw this on her face.
“Well, I think your father and I possibly have a little surprise for you..” Her mom said mysteriously. Her mother looked at the expression on Piper’s face.
“Ah, I’m afraid it’s not a pokémon, since me and your father thought it was best to have you catch your first pokémon yourself.” Her mother told her.
“W-wait, I’m not going to get one from the professor?” Piper asked, alarmed. Her mom looked at the ground, as if she’d been expecting this question.
“No, you will not be getting your pokémon from the professor. I know you might’ve wanted to, but we live a bit far away from any lab, and I thought it might be best to catch one for yourself.” Piper’s mom explained.
“Oh.. That’s.. Okay.” Piper exhaled.
“I’m so sorry.” Her mother said, her head drooping.
“Mom, that might even be more fun. I haven’t tried catching a pokémon yet, so who knows.” Piper said, trying to be cheerful. Her mom smiled and hugged Piper.
“Thank you.” She whispered.
“Oh boy, I’m awake. What’d I miss?” A voice suddenly said. Piper let go of her mom and turned towards the voice. It was her father.
“Oh, hello!” Piper greeted cheerfully. Her dad smiled and gestured to the living room.
“Shall you receive your surprise?” Her dad asked, winking. Piper nodded eagerly. Her dad smiled as her mom quickly ran to get her birthday presents. She pulled out three wrapped gifts. Her mom handed them to Piper. Piper happily unwrapped the first one. 5 pokéballs. Well, it was a start! Piper thought to herself. She smiled politely.
“Thank youuu!” Piper said, hugging her parents.
Piper placed the pokéballs down and started to unwrap the next present. She started to unwrap it, and then held it up. A black satchel! Piper’s face lit up and then opened the little flap on top. It had a particularly large amount of space inside and a small pouch inside. The miniature pouch had been divided into 6 parts, which Piper was guessing was for 6 pokéballs, the size of your team. Piper finally had a bag! Piper smiled and thanked her parents again. She turned her attention to the last present. This one seemed like a book. Y’know those classic presents people give you, but they don’t know what you like, so they just give you a book? Yeah, that at the moment seemed like one of those situations. Piper slowly placed down the bag and started unwrapping the last present. It seemed.. Squishy. Hm. Piper raised her eyebrows. She uncovered a bit of it. It was a red.. A red what? She took it out. It was a red cloth. Piper’s mom laughed.
“Ah, I see you’re confused. This one really isn’t much.. Let me put it on you.” Piper handed her mother the red piece of cloth. Her mom stood behind her and started doing something to her hair and head. Her mom guided Piper to a mirror. Piper gasped. It was a bandana hat thingy! Piper’s face lit up.
“Eeee! Oh my gosh! Thank youuu!” She sad, hugging her mom, who looked pretty surprised.
“It looks so COOL! OhMyGoodness!” Piper bounced over to her satchel and put the pokéballs inside.
“Well, I’m off!” Piper said happily taking one last look at her family.
“Farewell!” Her dad joked in a british accent.
“Byeee!” Piper called and she stepped out the door, closing it behind her. She sighed and looked up. Here I come, world. Piper thought to herself.
