Pokemon: Aether Decayed (Part I)

by Salted_Apples

Salted_Apples As rivaling factions cause Alola to descend into turmoil, the now seemingly powerless Aether Foundation must either adapt to survive, or fade into the abyss of history.

Enter Mathias Wechel.
"Calm down, Felicia! We have him stabilized, just stay calm!"

This, among with the beep of a heart rate display terminal, was the first thing Mathias Wechel heard as he broke through the veil of unconsciousness. He could hear two people arguing, a man and a woman, though barely see them in his lethargic vision. His temporarily hindered senses morphed the frantic conversation so that it sounded like the duo were miles away. He heard a light flick, not unlike the sound of turning on a light switch.

"He's awake!" The woman cried, running quickly over to Mathias' side in a sudden surge of elation. Now that he felt the power to move his head, Mathias began examining his surroundings, especially the room as a whole.

It was an Aether Foundation laboratory, clearly converted to be a makeshift hospital area. There was a plant on a table besides Mathias, and also heaps of discarded science equipment, with one boarded up window on the right wall.

Mathias then looked down at himself, and instantly wished he hadn't. He was covered in bite wounds, blood, and bandages. An IV was inserted into his left arm, and only by looking over the things that littered his body seemed to amplify the pain immensely. Mathias opened his mouth, desperately trying to say something, but it was futile. The only thing coming out was a croak, which sent spit flying down onto his Aether Foundation name tag.

Mathias Wechel
Executive Board of Security, Lieutenant
Access Level B
Aether Foundation

Memories came rushing back. He worked for the Aether Foundation, security. All remaining Type: Null specimens had escaped, they had kept some after the Ultra Wormhole fiasco, let alone under heavy security and kept away from the public eye. It still could have proved beneficial for Alola, but it seemed that the morbid curiosity had ultimate backfired, leading to their downfall...

BANG!

An ear splitting noise rang out through the room, as something had just charged into the door.

"YUSEF, PLEASE, WE HAVE TO LEAVE! THEY'RE COMING!"

"FELICIA, OPEN THE WINDOW!"

The woman began sobbing, as she sprinted towards the window. She picked up a hammer on a coffee table nearby the window, and began popping off the nails that protruded from the boards that had been so carefully inserted for their protection. Afterwards, she smashed the window, before turning towards the man present and yelled: "OKAY, GET MATHIAS AND LET'S GO!"

BANG!

This time it was even louder, sounding like the door could collapse any minute - and it was very clear, that whatever was on the other side, wasn't exactly friendly. Mathias was know very well aware of his surroundings, and began panicking. He was mumbling to himself profusely in pain, gritting his teeth in an effort to not begin screaming uncontrollably from the pain. The man ran over, before taking the IV needle from Mathias' arm, and replacing it with a band - aid from his pocket.

"AARGH!" Mathias yelled out in pain from the unexpected jab, and the man in the lab coat pulled him upwards violently.

"COME ON, WECHEL!" He yelled, before limping over to the window, while supporting Mathias, who was practically dead weight at this point.

BANG!

The door now busted open, revealing two heavily hostile specimens of Type: Null. One of them growled, as the pair of horrified Aether employees vaulted out of the windows. (Though, in Mathias' case, it was more of a stumble.)

They all began sliding down a slick roof, towards a grassy courtyard that laid outside, as rain hammered against Mathias' unkempt black hair...
