PFT: Fighting Fire with Fire [1 - Stolas vs. Camerinn]

by HalenFinascio

HalenFinascio The Pokémon Flash tournaments have just begun, and this time Stolas Ellistice has been paired up with a Rapidash. As he enters his first battle, it might not be so easy as he's facing an experienced trainer named Camerinn Rooney who'd been paired with a Charizard.
Pokémon Flash Tournaments. An exciting thing, really. Each competitor gets a Pokéflash Watch from the hosts. Then, for each round, they're paired with a Pokémon trained by a group of scientists (who had come up with the idea of tournaments) which they had never met before. Its moves and data are installed on the trainer's Pokéflash Watch so they know how to battle alongside them. Then, the tournament begins elimination-style. Each match, the winners who ascend to the next round are assigned a new Pokémon. No Pokémon who've already been assigned to a trainer will be assigned to a different one to avoid cheating by memorizing Pokémon moves and data. The final winner of the tournament gets to keep any Pokémon it battled alongside during the tournament.

The bells tolled in the stadium. The crowd cheered to see the two trainers who would start off this year's annual Pokémon Flash Tournament. An announcer's voice blasted from the huge speakers above.

"Ladies and gentlemen, señoras y señores, please shift your attention to the screen!"

The whole crowd turned to the side of the stadium with a grey colored screen, a huge projector, well, projecting images on it. The image was a huge set of tournament brackets. It showed who would face who. In the starting match was Stolas Ellistice and Camerinn Rooney.

"Looks like Ellistice will be facing Rooney in the first round!" the announcer's voice boomed once again, "please come up the stands, contestants!"

Stolas and Camerinn came from a tunnel that led to their preparation rooms where all the contestants sat and waited. They got onto their stands which was raised up by some sort of crane. The floor between them was a dark grey hexagonal design. Once the Pokémon were assigned, a random type was chosen and the hexagons would flip over and create a terrain-like visual illusion which corresponded to the random Pokémon type chosen and would either strengthen, weaken, or not affect Pokémon and their moves.

"Anyway, let's bring out the Pokémon assigned to both of these young male trainers!" There was a pause, then suddenly, two Pokémon emerged from either tunnel from another corridor inside of the tunnel since both tunnels led to two separate halls.

There was a Rapidash and a Charizard, coming from the two tunnels that both trainers had come out from. The Rapidash came out of the tunnel Stolas had come from, and Charizard the other.

"Alright!" Stolas exclaimed, barely being able to hear himself over the cheer of the crowd, "now let's see here" he said as he checked his Pokéflash Watch since Rapidash's data was installed onto it the moment she stepped out.

Rapidash:

Sex: Female
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Flash Fire
Moves: Megahorn, Bounce, Flame Wheel, and Toxic
Weaknesses: Ground, Rock, and Water
Type: Fire

"Alright!" he repeated in excitement. He knew Flash Fire would be great since he was fighting fire with fire.

Meanwhile, Camerinn, quiet, looked at his watch.

Charizard:

Sex: Male
Nature: Lax
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Steel Wing, Dragon Dance, Brick Break, and Flamethrower
Weaknesses: Water, Rock, and Electric
Type: Fire, Flying

"This is gonna be a piece of cake," said Camerinn in a low voice under his hood.

"Now let the match begin!" shouted the announcer.

The hexagonal floor pattern all turned over slowly, turning into a terrain. It became a grassland with scattered trees. There were trenches in the ground like geysers but they occasionally spurted out fire. The trees and grass didn't seem to catch the fire, though.

"Rapidash, use Bounce!" Stolas shouted to Rapidash.

Rapidash launched itself into the air, preparing a strong, paralyzing attack.

"Charizard! Take this chance to use Dragon Dance!" Camerinn shouted to his partner.

Charizard did a speed and damage increasing dance exercise while Rapidash was in the air, but Rapidash had already started coming back down. Charizard bursted sideways, trying to dodge, but Stolas' partner had already come in hot. Charizard flew backwards next to an infernal geyser. Camerinn shouted for Charizard, but he already got up.

"Okay! Charizard, now! Use Steel Wing!"

A silver-colored aura surrounded Charizard's wing, hardening it to steel (yes, a single wing. What would you expect, it's not called 'Steel Wings', it's just 'Steel Wing'). It flew right to the side of Rapidash, slapping it with its hardened wing. Charizard flew up and circled back around toward his trainer, the silver aura surging through him. His defense had increased from the move.

"This doesn't look good! As long as they don't use a fire-type move!" shouted Stolas, trying to trick Camerinn. And, hey, he fell for it.

"Charizard! You hear that? Use Flamethrower!" Camerinn shouted excitedly like it was going to win him the battle.

Charizard sprayed red hot flames at Rapidash, a cloud of black, puffy smoke hiding both Pokémon from anyone seeing them. Suddenly, Rapidash emerged and jumped upward as the smoke cleared up and cloaked itself into a circular aura of flames. It charged at Charizard who was in the air, a huge mid-air collision occuring. Rapidash had used Flame Wheel.

"Wh— but how?!" Camerinn, surprised, whined, "but you said—"

"Yes, and I tricked you!" Stolas cut him off; "Since Rapidash has Flash Fire, getting hit by fire moves strengthen her fire type moves! So I used Flame Wheel to take advantage of it!"

"Heh," Camerinn smirked, "good plan, great deceit, but now that you've weakened Charizard, you've activated his Blaze ability! Now, use Flamethrower, Charizard!"

Charizard roared fiercely, getting back up with its wings. It let out another burst of flames at Rapidash. It wasn't effective, yes, but it did injure it. Hardly getting up, Charizard went for another strike but Rapidash turned and Megahorn. The Charizard, weak, was hit by a huge horn, injuring it to the point of fainting.

"Ah?" Camerinn was happy with the exciting match, but still surprised that he'd lost; "Very well," he said randomly, a smile entering his face.

"Good job, Rapidash! Good game!"

"That was an amazing fight! Ladies and gentlemen, that was the first round of the tournament!" the announcer's voice brought silence to the cheering crowd.

Both trainers went back into the tunnel, and so did the Pokémon, the next competitors soon to battle each other in the stadium. The crowd settled down again, and the terrain turned back over into the hexagonal design it had been before the battle. Who will be put to battle next, and what Pokémon will they fight alongside?
