How to Survive High School

by Ry_Burst

Ry_Burst This is a essay I wrote involving the topic, teach a skill you know how to do to a friend. I think I rocked it.
I'm sure reading this you are thinking something along the lines of, how stupid is this kid, or I can survive high school just fine, there's no danger to High School. Well that is where you are wrong. High school is in a sense just of bunch of young adults dumped together and adults trying to finish their job, and make them adults. It's a bit weird, but it's what's needed. In this mixture of teens, cliques from, and these kids get divided, in ways they never seem to understand. Sure the popular kids, or the ones with "real-world" skills seem to fly through high school, only stopping and worrying about their grades. But you have to remember that high school isn't just a bunch of popular kids, or useful ones, but all teens, and this includes the butt of the jokes. You know, the nerds, the gamer, and the oddballs. High School for them can go two ways: super awesome, or super terrible. To make it super awesome, you'll probably need some help, and that's why I'm here.

One of the most important things to know, and do, is to be oblivious to people's nasty looks, words, or society's opinion on you. You know the old childhood chant from the playground,'I am rubber, you are glue?" Well it's the same idea. People are focused in their bubble, and they don't, as Atticus Finch once said, "climb into someone else's skin, and walk around a while." So what you have to remember is that, how people view you doesn't affect you or what you do, unless you let it. Stand up for your intests and values, by ignoring the rude comments. Just kinda go with the flow. The only option that matters is your own, and don't let others mess with that.

Okay, now that you have the right mindset, you're ready to dive right into high school, right? Nope, that is wrong. Diving into shallow water can leave you with a sore noggin, and no one likes that. Wade into it, and that's what we're here to do. On your first day, you should focus on meeting new people, and finding an older student to, in a sense, shadow. This way you can get a better feel for the high school experience. But don't mimick everything they do. Be your own unique person, but learn the ropes, because that's still pretty important.

Cliques, and I'm sure you saw this coming the second you read the title. Cliques are often a huge problem and obstacle for outcasts like us, where we don't seem to belong. They are not only one of our greatest bullies and enemies, but they are like an evil organization, where we are required to give up our souls to join. Well more like our individualality. When faced with cliques, ignore them. Don't join a group of kids who are a bad influence and make fun of other kids. Instead of a clique, or as I call them gangs, make friends, but don't force yourself to only hang out with them. Make friends with everyone, outcasts and clique cultists. Be a friendly air spirit, and kind of mosey around, handing out with everyone, despite what clique they belong too, or which stereotype they have plastered on their back. Don't be a clique cultist, but meet everyone, and have a variety of friends.

Wow, that was a chunk of infomation. Did you take notes, because this was all important? Now with these skills at your disposal, you can not only survive high school, but make it super special awesome. You now have a utility belt filled with self influence, respect, and friendliness, and with it, you can do more than Batman can do with his. Now, go out into high school and survive, that crazy place.
