Element Mastery Academy: Chapter 1 - The Beginning

by Ry_Burst

Ry_Burst A series I've had in the works for a while. Just a short opening chapter to "set the mood" of the story.
In another world, parallel to ours, the power of elements flow through certain kids, giving them unique abilities. These abilities only manifest, if they are trained to grow and bond successfully. If kids with these powers don’t learn to control them, the power grows dark, and separates on it’s own, creating monsters that could easily wipe out entire cities. So with this kind of power, the kingdom called Avatorn, created a program and set up schools, to teach these kids to control their powers.

Many kids moved on to become heroes, or help society to help boost the economy, or plainly make the world and their kingdom great. Soon the neighboring kingdoms, followed this and the world grew, and became better as a whole. It’s been 50 years, and in each of the four main kingdoms, Avatorn, Trakind, Pleteria, and Vitalia, began to thrive, developing schools to train these kids. And as our story unfolds, we begin in this world, one so unique, one where the powers can help shape the world.

A boy with spiky brown hair, rushed through the streets of Nysao City, one of the more populous cities in Avatorn, and most well know for their academy, EMA, Elemental Mastery Academy, one if the best schools in the world. This boy was probably preparing to take the test to enter this academy.

While there are multiple academies to go to, for a hero training course, EMA is one of the best. Sure other academies offer hero training courses, but EMA churned out the best of the best. EMA also has non hero courses that still teach you to master your element, which again are highly sought after.

Today was the final day of testing for EMA. The first day consisted solely on written exams, while for the Hero Course, there was a second day, added on to that. The Physical Exam. Students would use their elements in battle against machines to earn a score. Judges would evaluate your score by their own standards which are never released. For joining EMA’s hero course, the written test was the easier test, while the Physical Exam was rigorous, ever-changing, and way harder as a whole. It would be a greater test for any future students.

“Excuse me, I can’t be late,” the boy shouted as he ran through the crowd. While narrowly avoiding cars, he crossed the street to the main building, hurrying inside. His heart was beating rapidly, as he approached the registration.

The woman, who was currently chewing gum at the registration desk, blankly glared at the boy and asked, “What’s your name kid?”

The boy gave a smile and a thumbs up. “My name is Benjamin Meyers, but you can call me Benjy.”

The woman rolled her eyes and blankly said, “Okay, Benjy, what is your element?” She sad stressing the name Benjy, like she completely hated it.

The elements are divided into 5 forms, earth, air, fire, water, and dark. Within each class are sub types. People can normally be able to use all the sub types in their respective element, but have one, that they are better at.

Benjy raised his hand and placed it face down on the table revealing a red tattoo with a fire emblem carved into it. “Fire.”

Children who have the power of elements receive a tattoo of the element once they learn of it. However, often enough it doesn’t always show up, or is noticed. As the child grows the tattoo, either separates, if it never showed, creating Elemental beasts whose goal is to kill humans, or the element in question takes over the users mind. Of course this only happens after the child is grown at about 30ish.

“Okay, head inside. If you were a second later, I would have had to deny you,” she said pointing to an open door, after jotting something down. Benjy entered past and the door slammed shut behind him. Things were getting interesting.
Mockingchu, Kragn and Ariados twice like this.
