Dawn Awakening, Chapter 1
Fawnkit stared at the back-wall of the nursery as she fidgeted in her nest, fear surging through her.

A tortoiseshell she-cat padded up to the nest and sat beside it, her eyes glowing. “Aren’t you excited you’re becoming an apprentice today?”

“Of course.” Fawnkit rolled her eyes, “Not!”

The tortoiseshell stared at her. “Why not?”

The brown she-cat hissed, snapping her head to the side to look away. “Why not?Why not?Because everyone’s going to make fun of me because I’m as small has a new-born kit!Thats why not, Olivetuft!”

Olivetuft blinked, “Well, I’m excited that you’re becoming an apprentice.”

Fawnkit still looked away. “Well that’s because your mother and you want me to feel good, or you just want to get back to your warrior-“But as the small she-cat was about to finish her sentence, Faintstar, the leader of Flowerclan called, “May all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the Clanrock for a Clan meeting!”

Fawnkit’s heart dropped, the brown she-cat looked to her other side. Her sister, Batkit, was hopping excitingly in her nest. I wish I was as brave as her, Fawnkit thought. She’d jump in a lake with the whole clan around her if she felt like it.

Olivetuft nudged her kit gently, “Go on! It’s not like it’s the end of the world. You too, Batkit.”

“Well it feels like it.” Fawnkit whispered to herself, she then finally managed to haul herself out of the nest she shared with her mother and sister. The lithe kit couldn’t believe she would never sleep in the nest again.

Pretty much all the cats of Flowerclan were sitting, waiting for Faintstar to start talking. Everyone seemed to be staring at Batkit and her, Fawnkit looked down her paws, sunlight shined onto her pelt as she found a place to sit, trying not to flee away because of how many cats were there.Batkit however, held her head high as she walked next to her littermate, “Isn’t this exciting?” The brownish-black kit’s amber eyes were glowing.

Faintstar finally spoke, “There will be two kits now becoming apprentices today.” She called, her eyes focusing on Batkit and Fawnkit. “Batkit, come up.”

Batkit speeded up to the rock.

“Batkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Batpaw. Your mentor will be Leafblaze. I hope Leafblaze will pass down all she knows on to you.”

Fawnkit smiled, happy for her sister passing to be something she always dreamed being. The lithe cat remembered when they were younger Batpaw would always pretend was an apprentice and pretend to hunt mice. Sadness flooded through her as she knew those times would never happen again. Batpaw looked proudly down at the other cats looking up to her, Fawnkit’s attention then caught to the movement of Leafblaze, the kit’s eyes followed the warrior as she padded up to the Clanrock to join Faintstar and Batpaw.

Faintstar starting speaking again,”Leafblaze, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Olivetuft, and you have shown yourself to be intelligent and independent. You will be the mentor of Batpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Batpaw.”Leafblaze’s eyes glowed as she touched noses with Batpaw.

“Batpaw!”

Batpaw!”

Batpaw!”

Batpaw!”

Oh right!Fawnkit had just remembered,I remember Olivetuft telling us about Leafblaze!I never really met her though...

“Fawnkit, come up.”

The deer-pelted she-cat froze for a few heartbeats, hoping that she had heard Faintstar wrong. But of course, she didn’t. Fawnkit heaved herself up, her legs shaking. The crowd of cats were staring at her.She slowly padded over to the Clanrock. When Fawnkit finally got up to the rock and sat down quietly on the cold stone, then the yellow-eyed leader murmured something that she thought she would never forget:

“You look a little small six moons.”

Of course no one heard the she-cat, except for her. Fawnkit felt offended, even though she expected someone to say something like that. Faintstar then shook her head and started the ceremony.

“Fawnkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Fawnpaw. Your mentor will be Rainshine. I hope Rainshine will pass down all she knows on to you.”

Fawnpaw’s ears perked, Wait? The deputy?

Rainshine walked casually up to Faintstar and her. Rainshine looked cooling at her new apprentice. The she-cat smiled nervously at her.

“Rainshine, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Lavenderfoot, and you have shown yourself to be dedicated to your clan and loyal. You will be the mentor of Fawnpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Fawnpaw.”The pale-pelted she-cat finished.

“Fawnpaw!”

“Fawnpaw!”

“Fawnpaw!”

Wait, Lavenderfoot’s the elder that used to tell stories to me! Maybe I’ll ask Shiverpaw that if elders tell stories to apprentices too! And Shiverpaw is really nice, and her mentor is Faintstar, so maybe we could train together one day. Fawnpaw told herself, Rainshine than touched noses with her, Fawnpaw smiled anxiously, maybe turning an apprentice wasn’t that bad after all.
