Criminal Shade

by Darlin Heart

Darlin Heart In the near future pokemon battles have gotten progressively worse as the economy begins to break down. Many rare pokemon are becoming extinct due to the mass of trainers wanting to catch them.
Now, battles are closely regulated by the government and any illegal underground gambling is banned. The police haven't gotten much better at catching criminals as they are greatly outnumbered.
This is the story of a trainer named Shade who becomes one of the most succesful drug dealer, pokemon poacher, and criminal. She involves herself in the activity and grows to be more and more powerful in the Jhoto region.
"Flamewar once more ember"! A trainer had said. Its Houndour held its ground and let out small bursts of flames from its mouth.
Its target? It was a large oak tree with noticable burns on it. The bark was thick and the tree was steady. It was perfect for training.
The flames didn't create as much of an impact as last time. It was noticable, the pokemon grunted and let out a snarl.
It was visibly upset, it was able to do much better last time, why couldn't it now? The Houndour went in a rage tackiling right into the tree trying to break it down but with no avail.
The trainer rubbed her temples and walked over to her pokemon. "Flamewar, control yourself" she sternly said. "Listen, we can do it again". The Houndour turned around and growled but reluctantly walked over to their trainer.
Shade sighed, training was more difficult now, the government heavily regulated battles. Her pokemon arent able to get as much experience like trainers from her past generation did.
Shade shook her head "Okay Flamewar, listen" "I want you to growl". The Houndour gave a light growl sending small sound waves to the tree, In a real battle this would lower the opponents attack... but this was no real battle.
"Louder"! Flamewar growled once more, the soundwaves became more visible. "Even louder". This time Flamewar bared its teeth at the tree, lowered its head, took a stance, and laid its ears flat against its headand growled.
The soundwaves seemed a lot bigger than before. "Good, now keep growling like that". "Flamewar while you growl let ember build inside of you, when I say the command carry out your attack".
Flamewar felt a burning sensation in its chest, it rose and fell with its breathing. It built up in their chest until they felt like they were made of fire. "Flamewar use ember"!
Flamewar finally released the pent up fire along with its growl making a bigger burst of flame hit the tree with a large reddish soundwave surrounding it.
"Good" Shade said, the oak trees bark seemed charred. Shade walked to the tree inspecting it seeing the smoke rise from it. Shade grinned and looked at her pokemon, "you've improved".
Flamewar panted and looked at its trainer. Its eyes were bright and alert. Its posture was upright. Yet it seemed tired, "come here Flamewar". "I know your tired weve been practicing a lot today who knows how many elixers we went through".
Shade ruffled its Houndours head and walked away from the tree and into the small cabin built near it. "Youll eventually get used to trying this technique, before you know it, it will be like second nature".
As they entered the cabin Flamewar walked to to corner and plopped down onto its bed. It was clearly exhausted, it let out a small puff of smoke before taking a sound and dreamless sleep. Meanwhile Shade walked to what could hardly be called a kicthen.
there was a minifridge in the corner, a counter top next it with a can of pokemon food, a small portable stove, a small sink, some pots, pans, some plates, some cups, and a stool with a coffee table in the middle.
Money was rough at the moment and Shade was struggling financially. At least she didn't pay rent, this cabin was abandonded in the woods and Shade took advantage of that.
You see Shade wasn't paticularly the best person. Shade was more or less a small wanted criminal in the police book. She stole, a lot. Half of the things that are in the cabin are stolen.
She couldn't be within the public eye, at all. Chances are someone would turn her in for a reward.
Shade sighed and grabbed some leftovers from last night and took a bite of the food while looking at the fridge. She gave a small look of disapointment when she saw there really wasn't much left.
She looked at Flamewar...sound asleep.. "Flamewar" she walked over the them eating another bite of her leftovers. The houndour drowsily opened its eyes. "Afteral a couple of hours were going into town okay, we need food".
The pokemon took no mind and only shook its head before going back to sleep. Shade scratched her head planning on getting back to the kitchen.. Then.. She heard a knock at the door.
Shade tensed up and walked to the window looking through the blinds seeing a familiar blue uniform with another familiar orange pokemon.

Shades eyes widened and she shook her pokemon awake. "Flamewar wake up" her houndour looked at her in an annoyed way. "The police Flamewar" Flamewar perked up.
If its one thing the pokemon knew it was that the law enforcment could jail Shade, and that meant being taken away from its trainer.
Flamewar got up while Shade grabbed her backpack. Along with other nessecities as she heard the familiar sentences. "This is the police if you do not cooperate we will forcefully enter your domain".
Shade motioned for her pokemon to follow her before she heard the door bust open behind her. "Freeze"! Shade rose her hands above her head and turned around meeting face to face with an officer.
Both pokemon growled, this could very well be the end of her freedom. The gun clicked and the growlith beside the police gave a snarl.
Flamewar growled feeling protective of its trainer. "Officer Jenny I guess you found me again". The officer gave a piercing stare "I guess I did"....
