Born in Pallet Town, Maya grew up like your everyday child. Her father, Shawn, was nearly killed in a car accident, leaving her mother, an artist called Haven, upset of the thought of him dying. However, he made it out alive after a week-long coma instead, leaving Maya surprised while not knowing there is something that is inside and has not been unlocked.
Maya attended school from the age of 5 to 8, but during her first day, an unknown Pokémon (or so they thought) attacks her class (at that time) and she and her best friends Andrea Mirabelle and Kimberly Briton get hit by the attack. School was dropped out for a few weeks after the incident, and during this 'break', she realizes she wasn't attacked by a Pokémon, but rather a fairy animal.
At the age of seven, Maya discovers the inner piece. The fairy animal had given her the power of wind, and when a real monster attacks, she unleashed so much force that she accidentally let a tree destroy the school, making it close down. Upset, she chose not to talk to anyone, not even her family.
A year later, after finishing school, Maya finally mellows down after developing an interest in Pokémon, and Andrea ends up moving to Pallet, much to Kimberly's delight. They all lived together happily, but after meeting Blue Oak, who called Andrea a coward, Maya realizes that life isn't all happiness as she thought. Just one year before her journey, her older sister Abigail goes missing without a trace, and now Maya has to solve the mystery.
