A World Without Color: AWWC Chapter 10: Watched

by Silvermist599

Silvermist599 Kara and Mikey come with Noah and Nate to the lab and everything seems to be going okay. But will they actually get along like the team Noah thinks they should? You'll see ;).
I got home well before 5:00 that day and thought about what Nate had said. He said I’d have a lot to explain to them, and I guess he had been right. They didn’t really actually know me, even if I knew them like the back of my hand. The thing is, I didn’t know how they were going to react to find out that I kind of convinced them to come to Nate’s place under a few false pretenses. I mean… I didn’t lie to them, but I felt bad about not telling them what we had planned.

A slamming door interrupted my thoughts. My mom was home and she was on the phone with someone. “Yes, Mr. Colstrom, I agree,” she was saying. “Go ahead and move his training to Saturday. He has been getting a bit adventurous with his ideas, and we can’t have that now.” I took in a sharp breath and ducked my head where she couldn’t see me as she walked past to her room. She continued talking on the phone in there, but I had stopped listening. My ‘training’ was rescheduled for Saturday? I needed to talk to Nate tomorrow, he’d know what to do.

The next morning, I got up early and walked past the school and to Nate’s house and waited for him to leave. When he came out, I walked up to him he said, “Noah, what are you doing here?”

“I have bad news.” I started. “They’re moving my training to Saturday. We’ll have to set the plan in motion tonight.”

“What!” He said sharply. “We can’t! We need to plan. We need to research more. We don’t even know if half of the team is willing to help us!” He said his voice rising.

“Calm down, we can do this.” I said. “You don’t know it yet, but the four of us make a great team. Trust me. They’ll help.”

“Fine, I’ll trust you,” he started. “But tonight, you have to do everything I say.” He said.

“I know, and of course I will.” I said.

“Okay, good,” he said as we neared the school. “Now get away from me. We can’t let it look like we were talking.” He said and we headed in opposite directions.

All throughout the school day, I felt like I was being watched. Not the normal, ‘oh, you’re a smart kid,’ watched, but like someone who didn’t like me was plotting my doom. Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but it felt like someone knew what I was planning and wanted to stop it. Every time I looked up in the hallways, the cameras seemed to be pointed at me, and all my teachers kept looking over my shoulder at what I was doing and I noticed they were doing something similar to Nate. They knew something about us, but I don’t know what or how much, just that they knew something we didn’t.

When the bell rang for the end of my 7thperiod piano class, I walked out the door and purposely strode past the art room. At that point, Kara and Mikey were waiting for me and started following me out the front of the building. Nate was leaving through another door as to not attract attention and so that he would be there before us. He wanted to be ready for when they got there.

The walk wasn’t long and soon we were standing in Nate’s backyard. “Well, where are we meeting?” Mikey asked.

“Down here,” I said, pulling up the fake dead grass. “Grab the rope and climb down. Be careful not to fall on your way down.” I said.

“Okay,” Mikey said and climbed down. Kara soon followed. Finally, I looked around to make sure no one was watching and I climbed down as well, replacing the dead grass behind me.
