As we left off, our heroes traversed a dangerous river filled with powerful rapids. With teamwork and trust, they managed to make it out without being crushed alive. Elijah also got a glimpse into Ava's past and her fear of big bodies of water. Now they're en route to Geosenge Town, home of evolutionary stones, and maybe some other items 
Our heroes arrived at Geosenge Town and were kindly greeted by an elder man in a white suit. "Welcome to our lovely town," The man said. "Here you'll find all sorts of valuable stones you wouldn't normally find anywhere else. It's also home of the biggest mine in Kalos, hence where we get our stones. Stop by our shops if you would like to browse our massive selection." Our heroes thanked him and moved on to find a hotel. After taking hot showers our heroes climbed into their comfortable beds to sleep for the night. "I forgot what it was like to sleep in a bed." Ava said cozier than ever. Elijah laughed and replied, "Sure is a lot better than tents and sleeping bags." "That's for sure..." She said drifting off to sleep.
The next morning our heroes awoke to the entire town gathered around a group of pillars in the center. Our heroes bobbed and weaved through the crowd of people and found the old man from before. "What's going on?" Elijah asked the man. "Today's our festival for Mega Evolution. It's an annual celebration that our town has been celebrating since the discovery of Mega Evolution." The man replied. Our heroes looked at each other confused. "What's Mega Evolution?" The asked in sync.
The man laughed, "I take it you both are just beginning your journeys?" "I am. But he's traveled through Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova participating in the Pokemon Leagues in each of those regions." The man nodded, "With such experience I'm quite surprised you haven't heard of this phenomenon yet. Well, allow me to explain. Mega Evolution is the act of taking a Pokemon who typically cannot evolve any further and unleashing their 'ultimate form'. Their physical appearance changes and their power is significantly raised. Only certain Pokemon can Mega Evolve however, and the bond between said Pokemon and trainer has to be greater than any other." The trainers listened in awe surprised neither of them had ever heard about this before.
"So how does one Mega Evolve a Pokemon?" Ava asked. "Well out festival is actually a series of battles between Mega Evolved Pokemon. Why don't you watch and see." The man replied. Our heroes nodded and turned their attention to the large battlefield the crowd was surrounding. Two trainers stood on either side of the arena. One of them had a Charizard, the other an Alakazam. A referee stood to the side presumably refereeing the battle. "Begin!" The referee roared. "Charizard use Dragon Claw!" One of the trainers commanded. The Alakazam countered with Protect causing the Dragon Claw to do nothing. "Come on! Show us the real stuff!" Someone in the crowd yelled.
The two trainers nodded. Ava watching as the trainer with the Charizard held up a black bracelet with a sparking stone on it. Charizard had a metal collar around his neck with a similar stone placed at the tip. The trainer held his arm out set two fingers on the stone. In a flash of purple light, Charizard was transformed into Mega Charizard X. Elijah stood bewildered, it was incredible. The opposing trainer with the Alakazam held his cane up to reveal the same white stone on the end of it. In another quick flash of light, Alazakam was transformed into Mega Alakazam. "A bit over the top, don't you think?" Ava asked. "It's incredible..." Elijah replied.
The Alakazam hit the Charizard with Psycho Cut causing it to stumble backwards a little bit. The Charizard proceeded to Counter with a smoldering Flamethrower. After a few more back and forth attacks the Charizard came out victorious. The trainer returned his Charizard and began walking off the stage. "Wait..." called Elijah from behind. "Let me battle you." The crowd laughed at his comment. "What are you doing?" hissed Ava. "I'm being a normal Pokemon Trainer. We have battles." He said smirking. The Charizard Trainer turned around "I'll accept." He replied.
Elijah threw Scyther's Pokeball out to the battlefield. As expected, the opposing trainer used his Charizard. "This is nuts. If Mega Alakazam lost to him, there's no way an ordinary Scyther can win." Someone in the crowd said. Elijah just smiled and waiting for the referee to begin the match. Ava noticed his smile. He used that smile for when he had a plan. "Um.. The battle between Josh and the trainer with Scyther will now begin?" The referee said confusedly. "Quick Attack!" Elijah yelled. Charizard couldn't even move in time before Scyther slammed him with the powerful attack.
The crowd was very surprised with Scyther's immense amount of speed. Charizard was quick to respond however with a few strong Dragon Claw to the face. Scyther brushed it off like it was nothing. The Charizard continued with onslaught of attacks by following up with Brick Break. Scyther countered the Brick Break with Metal Claw. "Seems I cannot defeat you with just my normal Charizard. MEGA EVOLVE!" Josh roared. "This is what I was waiting for..." Thought Elijah.
Ava sat amongst the rest of the crowd. She was super nervous and she wasn't even the one battling. She noticed Elijah look completely unphased from Charizard's Mega Evolution. Could he actually win?
"He's done for now." "There's no way he can pull this off." "Shouldn't have even tried." Were some of the comments made by the crowd. Josh was some sort of Town hero it seemed. The town deemed him as their best battler. "You can try and win with your fancy colors. But when it comes to bonds, Scyther and I are unbeatable." Elijah commented. "We'll see about that. Charizard, use Flare Blitz!" Josh replied. "Scyther fly into the air!" Elijah countered. The Flare Blitz missed and Charizard took recoil damage. While Scyther was soaring threw the air, he attacked Charizard with multiple X-Scissors.
"THAT'S IT!" roared Josh. "CHARIZARD, FLY AFTER SCYTHER AND SLAM IT INTO THE GROUND!" It was no use. Charizard would never catch Scyther, even if it was indeed Mega Evolved. Ava realized that she was shouting quite loudly for Elijah. Even with the major Type-Disadvantage and with the evolution disadvantage, he was still winning. Scyther hit Charizard with a powerful Night Slash causing it to stumble a little. Charizard still continued to fly after Scyther but to no avail. Josh realized what Elijah's plan was. He knew from the start that Charizard wasn't faster. So he's just trying to wear Charizard out to finish him that way.
"This battle has gone on too long. Charizard, FLAMETHROWER!" Josh shouted. The extremely brutal blast of fire hit Scyther square in the face. Scyther fell to the ground, the attack had done so much. He was covered by the Smoke from the blast, no one could see the outcome. "It has to be over now." Someone in the crowd said. Elijah stood calmly and closed his eyes. Then, a green glow came out from the cloud of smoke. Swarm.
Swarm is Scyther's ability. When his HP gets below 1/3 Bug-Type moves have increased damage. "X-Scissor!" Elijah yelled confidently. Charizard was blown back from the speed and strength of that attack. Not only was Elijah close and very talented when battling with his Pokemon, but he knew how to bring out the full abilities of his Pokemon. Especially one as close as Scyther. Charizard was barely holding on, it struggled to stand up.
Scyther fired back with another attack. This time it was his secret technique. A combination move. Scyther combined X-Scissor and Quick Attack, Quick Scissor. The referee stood speechless, "Ch... Char... Charizard is.. unable to battle... Scyther and Elijah are the victors..." Ava jumped in the air completely shocked. Elijah and Scyther fist bumped and exchanged a hug. Ava ran up to Elijah, "I can't believe you just did that..." She said. Elijah laughed, "Practice makes perfect."
Josh sat on the ground in disbelief. He starred at the Pokeball containing his feinted Charizard. Elijah walked up to him and held out his hand. Josh looked up and grabbed it. Elijah pulled him up off the ground. "Look dude. You and Charizard battled incredible. If it were any normal Scyther you would have won with one attack. But you have to remember, even though the Pokemon you have is extremely powerful, there's always a way to lose. You just have to pick yourself up and train harder so that next time you win." Elijah told him. Josh smiled and held out his hand to shake. Elijah happily took it. "Next time we meet, I'm going to be the victorious one." Josh announced. "I'll be waiting." Elijah said smiling. Josh walked away into the sunset, no doubt heading to begin his training.
The old man from before walked up to Elijah,"That was quite an incredible battle. No one here has ever even been close to defeating Josh. You have truly earned mad respect from this town." "It was nothing. Just training, friendship, and High Protein Pokemon Food." Elijah replied. The man laughed, "I wanted to give you this for your victory. I knew you were an interesting person as soon as you showed up in town." He held out one of the small white crystals used in Mega Evolution. "A token of our appreciation. He said. Elijah starred at the crystal and held it up to the sky. It sparkled vibrantly against the bright sun. "Thank you sir, I really appreciate it." Elijah replied.
The man walked away and Elijah returned to Ava and showed her his new possession. Ava starred at it in awe, "It's so pretty!!" She squealed. Elijah slipped it into his backpack, he would need to find a better place to keep it. Ava and Elijah waved the town goodbye and returned to their trek to Shalour City. The day was growing closer.
