Ava woke up bright and early once again to the smell of breakfast. This time, to her surprise, Alex was cooking with Elijah. They seemed to be deep in conversation. No doubt about their past experiences and battles. They noticed her walking up to the table. "Good Morning!" Elijah said warmly. She smiled back, "Morning." She sat down at the table letting her Pokemon out to play. Gourgeist had been with her for a couple days now. She and Ava had grown close in that time and Gourgeist's days of crying for her lost trainer have gone.
Elijah followed her lead letting Froakie and Litleo out to play with the others. Scyther sat in a tree resting in the sunlight. Scyther acted like a teenager at 5 year old's birthday party. It sat away from the others not wanting to play. "So Alex," Ava started. "We've seen Chesnaught, but do you have any other Pokemon with you?" Alex grinned. "Yeah I have a few. I came from the Alola Region. The Pokemon I caught over there came with me to Kalos." He pulled five other Pokeballs out and threw them into the air. Out came a ferocious Dragonite, a perky Carbink, an energized Incineroar, a Shiny Aegislash, and a very happy Lapras.
Ava and Elijah recognized all the Pokemon except the Incineroar. "Is that Pokemon from the Alola Region?" Elijah asked pointing to the Incineroar. Alex nodded, "Yep. It's the final evolution of the Fire Starter Pokemon in Alola." Ava starred at it in awe, "It looks so strong. One of our friends here in Kalos has a Primarina." She said referring to Macy, the current Kalos Queen. Alex thought for a second then smiled, "Breakfast is ready!" He said laying the last slices of bacon on their plates.
Our heroes were enjoying their breakfast when Ava asked what today's plans were. "Alex and I were talking and we decided it would be cool to visit the Baa de Mer Ranch. They raise Gogoat and Skiddo and allow trainers to ride on them. Looks pretty fun." Elijah replied. "Sounds Great." Ava said happily. They quickly finished eating and rushed to pack everything to get to the Ranch in time.
An hour later, our heroes were standing at the front desk of the Baa de Mer Ranch signing up for a Skiddo race. The Ranch hosted weekly races and also had a ranking system. Those who were highly into Skiddo racing were able to compete in races and climb the competitive ladder. People in the same skill groups competed against each other to be the best. Our heroes decided it would be a good opportunity to try it out. Why not? It could be a good experience.
"On your mark... Get set... Go!" Roared the referee. Our heroes took off in a free for all race against 7 other people. Elijah and Ava were having a lot of trouble attempting to steer the Pokemon, but Alex got the hang of riding it very quickly. He zoomed ahead of everyone in the race completing the first lap very quickly. Ava was finally getting a hold of it and quickly flew to second place. The second lap was completed leaving one more to go. The kid in front of Elijah wasn't that adept in riding either and kept unintentionally swerving in front of him almost causing him to fly off a few times.
One thing about Alex, was that he was very cocky. Maybe.. a little too cocky. He looked back at everyone else very far behind him. Ava was catching up, but really slowly. He stood up on the back of the Skiddo and yelled into the air obviously happy with his performance. However, his celebration lasted shortly at a tree branch had a different idea for him. He ran right into it knocking his square off the Skiddo and knocking the breath out of him. Ava watched it all unfold in front of her and giggled to herself. She and her Skiddo crossed the finish line for the last time placing First Place! Elijah followed behind managing to make it in Second. The rest of the participators followed behind him. Alex walked up embarrassed taking a strong last place.
"At least you were able to stand up on that Pokemon in the first place!" Elijah said sarcastically. All three of them burst out laughing. The referee walked up to our heroes and handed Ava and Elijah their given trophies. He then handed Alex a Participation Ribbon. The three trainers waved the Skiddo and contestants goodbye as they headed towards Coumarine City for their next Gym Battle.
Somewhere out in the Kalos Region, three unknown entities sat watching through whatever telepathic powers they possessed. They watched as our heroes happily walked along Route 12 laughing and talking along the way. They started growing a strong liking for these kids.
