As we left off, our heroes competed for their fourth Gym Badge in an incredible triple-battle at Coumarine City! Not only did the emerge victorious, but Elijah's Froakie evolved into a Frogadier! They now take another break from their journey to enjoy the incredible sites at Coumarine City during National Best Friends Day.
Today our heroes were separated from each other shopping at different stores around the humongous city of Coumarine. Since it was National Best Friends Day, our heroes decided to buy each other gifts to celebrate their friendship.
Ava was having trouble since she'd only ever shopped for girls in the past. She didn't really have a clue what Alex and Elijah would like. She looked from store to store through clothes, trinkets, and other strange collectables for something that would catch her eye. She remembered Alex complaining a day or two ago about how he wish he had some gloves for when he worked out. Doing pullups on tree branches began to hurt his hands after a while. She the found a pair of black gloves with the fingertips opened designed for training. They were perfect for him.
Alex was looking through clothing stores as well as he decided to shop for Ava first since he figured she would be the easiest. He looked at hats, outfits, and shoes before deciding on his item. He knew that Winter was right around the corner so be picked out a light-pink beanie with little white designs embedded on it resembling snowflakes. He then began to search for a gift to give Elijah. He had something in mind.
Elijah had a completely different mindset than that of Alex. He figured Ava would be harder to shop for since she seemed to always become interested in something new everyday. He decided to shop for Alex first. One thing was for sure about Alex, he really liked shoes. Both Elijah and Ava just wore the same shoes everyday occasionally switching to flip-flops depending on the weather. But Alex had about 6 different pairs of shoes in his bag that he cleaned everyday as part of his morning routine. He found the Pike store (play on Nike) and began searching. He finally decided on a pair of reverse-colored shoes. One shoe was black with white designs and the other shoe was white with black designs. It seemed fitting for Alex.
Ava was searching store to store but couldn't find anything that she thought Elijah would like. She began to think of the valuables Elijah had and if she could get him something to go with those. She then remembered the Mega Stone Elijah was given from Geosenge Town and how she could get him something to hold it in. She found exactly what she was looking for. A small black bracelet that would perfectly fit the spherical crystal in.
Alex was also still deciding what he could get for Elijah. Other than battling and Pokemon, Elijah rarely revealed his other interests to him and Ava. He thought hard once more thinking of every little thing Elijah was ever revealed to him about himself. He then remembered Elijah mentioning something about his love for technology. He rushed into the nearest tech store and began searching for something he thought Elijah would enjoy. He spotted a chip that when added into a Pokedex added tons of new features to it including: nearby Pokemon tracking, an application that plays different pitches of sound to attract different Pokemon, and much more. It was perfect for Elijah.
Elijah sat down on a bench to be able to think better. He had no idea what Ava would want. By what he had seen, she hadn't been into to jewelry much or fashion either. She just wore whatever was comfortable. He thought about the meaning of Nation Best Friends Day and that it wasn't about buying each other stuff, it was about actually spending time with your friends and celebrating your friendship in general. Whatever he got her didn't matter as long as it resembles their friendship together. With that thought in mind he went into a souvenir store and found exactly the type of thing he was looking for. It was a necklace in the shape of a heart that said "Best Friends" on it.
After our heroes finished their shopping they gathered under the gigantic tree in the center of Coumarine City. It was a yearly celebration to buy your friends things and then gather with each other under the tree to watch the firework show. Our heroes found a bench to sit on. They each took their presents out for each other. Alex handed his two over first.
Ava opened hers revealing the beanie and she actually really enjoyed it. She tested it and complemented how soft and warm it was. Elijah opened his and found the chip for his Pokedex. She slid it in his dex and all the new features were beginning to load on to it. He fist bumped Alex saying how awesome it was.
Ava's presents were next and Alex opened his first. As soon as he saw the gloves a big smile appeared on his face. He reached over and hugged ava thanking her for the awesome gift. Elijah then opened his. Ava really hoped Elijah enjoyed his gift, she really didn't know what he would like. He reached into the bag and pulled out the black band confused on what it was for. He then saw the spherical hole on the top and immediately pulled with Mega Stone out. It was a perfect fit.
"It's incredible. Thanks Ava." Elijah said happily.
It was now time for the last gifts to be given from Elijah. Alex insisted he should open his first again so he did. He opened the box to find the reverse-colored shoes Elijah had bought for him. Alex quickly tore his shoes off he was currently wearing to try them on immediately. He stood up and began pacing around getting used to their feel.
"Dude they fit perfectly. Thanks a lot. I'm going to use these guys to run over and get us Ice Cream for the show. Be back in a second!" He said jogging off to the Ice Cream stand.
It was now time for Ava to open her present. He too hoped Ava liked it. She slid the top of the box off revealing the golden necklace that was a perfect sign of their friendship. She look at the necklace sadly and Elijah began to worry that she didn't like it.
"If you don't like it I can take it back." Elijah said nervously.
"No no! It's not that. It's just that it doesn't make sense saying 'Best Friends' if only one of us gets to wear it." Ava replied.
Elijah thought for a second then thought of something he could do to fix the problem. "I might have an idea." He told her.
He called out Scyther from it's Pokeball and told him to use Metal Claw straight through the center of the necklace splitting it in half. Elijah then took the two pieces off the ground and pulled out two metal chains from his bag. He turned the singular necklace into two separate necklaces. One for himself and one for Ava. When put together, they created the full heart.
Ava smiled and replied, "That's much better."
A crack sounded in the air meaning the firework show was beginning. Alex was still waiting in line for his dessert. Both Ava and Elijah watched as colors from across the spectrum emerged in the air. Some were in the shapes of recognizable Pokemon like Pikachu and Mew. Ava turned to Elijah and watched as he looked upwards at the fireworks with a gigantic smile on his face. She reached for his hand and grabbed it, holding it tight. Elijah turned to see her looking at him with a big smile as well.
He grabbed her hand in return and together they looked up at the explosions of color.
Alex rushed over carrying three cones of Ice Cream in a hurry. The two trainers quickly released their grasp of one another and turned their attention to Alex.
"Sorry I took so long. The line was HUGE. What did I miss?" Alex said handing everyone their cones.
"Oh nothing much." Ava said lying just a little.
