It was time. Our heroes had been working hard and training day-to-day for this battle.
They stood in front of the doors to the Laverre City Gym. Ava clutched her Egg in her hand, still wondering what Pokemon could be inside.
Ava had been worried about the upcoming battle for the past week. She had done well at the Lumiose Gym, but she’d heard this next Gym Leader was one of the toughest. Her name was Valerie, a master of Fairy-Types.
“Everyone ready?” Elijah asked.
Macy and Alex nodded. Ava continued to stare at her Egg as if she hadn’t heard him.
“Ava? Ava!” Elijah said.
She looked up suddenly as she snapped out of focus.
“Are you ready?” Elijah asked once again.
She nodded.
Our heroes stepped inside and were greeted to a pink-colored dojo themed battlefield. Valerie stood opposite of them in a glorious pink dress that she made herself.
“Welcome young trainers. I am Valerie. Welcome to my lovely Gym!” Valerie announced to our heroes.
Our heroes thanked her and walked to their side of the battlefield.
“I suspect some of you are here to challenge my Gym?” She asked.
“All of us, yeah.” Alex responded.
“I see, very well. Traveling in groups is much more beneficial to traveling trainers,” Valerie replied smiling. “Who will be challenging me first?”
“I’ll go.” Elijah spoke up.
The others nodded meaning they were cool with it. The rest of our heroes took their seats on the side and were ready to cheer him on. Elijah stood opposite Valerie. He was ready.
Valerie took out a Pokeball and tossed it, revealing Spritzee was her first choice.
“Each of you must defeat one of my Pokemon to win a badge since we don’t have time to each do a 3v3 battle.” Valerie stated.
Elijah nodded and sent out Litleo to combat his opponent.
The referee took her place and signaled the battle had begun.
“Misty Terrain!” Valerie started off.
Misty Terrain prevented Spritzee from being burned by Litleo’s fire-type moves.
“No matter, Litleo, use Headbutt!” Elijah called out.
Litleo charged at Spritzee to attack, but Spritzee flew into the air to dodge.
Spritzee countered back with Psychic, slamming Litleo into the ground and then followed up with Moonblast, dealing heavy damage.
“That pink fluffball sure packs a punch.” Elijah said wiping sweat from his forehead.
Valerie grinned, “Never underestimate us!” She replied.
“Same could be said about us…” Elijah said returning a grin.
“Sunny Day!” Elijah called out.
The Misty Terrain was replaced by a harsh sunlight indoors that boosted Fire-Type moves.
“Now Fire Fang, let’s go!” Elijah continued.
The attack didn’t make contact and was countered with another Psychic that stopped Litleo in its tracks.
“Throw it and use Energy Ball!” Valerie insisted.
Litleo was thrown as said and was hit with an Energy Ball. It was looking bad out there for Elijah and Litleo, it would take a miracle for them to win.
Good thing Elijah is known for miracles…
“Endeavor!” Elijah called out.
This move came out of nowhere. Spritzee’s HP was immediately cut down to Litleo’s HP and it became very weak.
“Now, Fire fang again!” The attack connected while Spritzee was still recovering from the endeavor. Litleo stood facing away from its opponent. Spritzee struggled on the ground. Just then, it went up in flames. It was a burn.
Spritzee had fainted.
Valerie was shocked. She’d never been tricked by a challenger in that caliber before. She was mildly impressed by his strategy.
She smiled and handed Elijah his sixth Gym Badge and congratulated him. Elijah returned some thanks and walked to his friends who were still in shock.
“What did you just do…” Alex said confusedly.
“He used Endeavor, a move that makes the opponent’s HP equal to that of the user. And since Litleo had sustained massive damage, Spritzee sustained that same amount of damage. He then used the increased burn chance from the Sunny Day to secure the win. A brilliant, well-thought strategy.” Ava replied.
“That… was... Awesome,” Macy exclaimed happily. “Please let me go next. I am so eager to battle!!”
The others agreed to it and it was now Macy’s turn to prove her skill against Valerie.
Valerie released her next Pokemon to battle, Mawile.
Macy smirked and released her Pokemon, Scizor.
“There it is… That Scizor…” Elijah thought to himself.
Scyther came out of its ball on its own and stood focused on Scizor.
“I guess you want to watch it battle too huh?” Elijah asked his Pokemon.
Scyther nodded contently, not tuning out of the battle.
The battle had begun.
“Iron Defense!” Valerie started.
Mawile defense increased dramatically.
“Two can play at that game! Scizor, use Swords Dance!” Macy called out.
Scizor’s attack dramatically increased.
Valerie nodded, she couldn’t out stat-boost Scizor.
“Very well, Mawile, use Crunch!” Valerie called out.
“Hit it with Bullet Punch, quickly!” Macy countered.
Before Mawile could go to attack, Scizor sped right behind Mawile and hit it with a powerful Bullet Punch causing it to fly into the battlefield floor. It struggled to get up, but it managed to prevail.
“Seems like brute power won’t defeat you,” Valerie announced. “I guess we’ll have to ramp up to full power!”
Valerie revealed a white, spherical crystal on her earring. A Mega Stone.
“Mawile, Mega Evolve!” Valerie insisted.
Mawile had transformed into Mega Mawile, a fearsome opponent indeed.
“AWESOME!! My first Mega Evolution battle,” Macy cheered excitedly. “Let’s do this Scizor!”
Scizor launched the next attack with Iron Head which even Mega Mawile couldn’t avoid.
Mawile countered with Feint Attack which was quickly avoided by Scizor and its immense speed.
“Time to wrap this up with an Elijah-Special,” Macy announced. “Use Bullet Punch and X-Scissor together, X-Punch!”
The incredible attack made contact with Mega Mawile and it fainted instantly. Not even Mega Evolution could withstand Macy’s incredible strength.
Our heroes stood with wide-open mouths and they watched Macy jump around and celebrate with Scizor. She may not look it, but she was one unbelievable battler.
“She just…” Alex started to say.
“Won without taking a single point of damage…” Ava finished his sentence.
“Wow…” Is all that Elijah could get out.
Macy took her badge with pride, thanked Valerie, and ran back to her friends.
“What did you guys think?” She asked noticing their expressions.
“That was amazing.” Elijah replied.
The others nodded in agreement.
Macy giggled, “Thanks everyone! But your battle was nothing to overlook either, Elijah!”
“Such a strange girl…” Elijah thought. She was overly emotional but such an amazing battler and trainer in general.
“Who’s next?” Valerie asked awaiting her next challenger.
