Short Stories: A Seemingly Quiet Mushroom Village

by Shikowara

Shikowara This was a short story I wrote. My friend gave me a prompt (the title) and I wrote this...
A quaint little village, it was. Always aglow in the shadowy forest. The houses were made out of anything that they could find; twigs, leaves, flowers, mostly mushrooms, though.
The villagers living in the little village were known as Oakalings. They had bark for skin, flower petals for hair, and leaves for clothes.
They had all sorts of things in the village: restaurants, hotels for bugs, and even schools for Oakaling children.
The president of the mushroom village was a big monarch butterfly. He traveled often, so he was never really home, which was a big problem because the vice-president was an ant that everyone hated.
The school was where most of the drama happened; the most popular Oakaling there was name Beatrice. She had pink and and a yellow dress. Everyone liked her, except for Cookie. Cookie was a nerdy Oakaling who everyone thought was weird. He was very smart, though. He passed every test, unlike Beatrice.
One time Beatrice and Cookie were partners for a project about ladybugs.
Beatrice had a fit about it, but the teacher said she'd have detention if she didn't hush up. So she did.
Cookie and Beatrice bonded over the fact that they both loved ladybugs.
They soon became friends, and also got an A+.
One of the hotels happened to have some drama the next day.
One of the ants was killed one night and a spider discovered it. The hotel manager was framed for the crime. But luckily, one of the waiters in the restaurant next door found the real killer...
The spider!
It also turns out the president wanted to fire the vice-president years ago...
So that happened--

"Kinoko, Choji, time for dinner!" Called a voice.
Two 4 year olds looked up from their stick figures and bugs, to see their mom on the porch behind them.

"Aw..." The two groaned.
"You can play tomorrow," She told them. So they left their little mushroom town and went inside for dinner.

The End
