Pokémon Go Fest 2022 announced as a hybrid summer-long series of real-world and in-game events
The dates for this year’s Pokémon Go Fest have been announced, with a return to in-person events for the first time since 2019 taking place across three continents over the summer as well as 3 days of in-game events. Things kick off with a two-day global in-game event on the 4th and 5th of June, with live events taking place in Germany, the USA and Japan throughout July and August and closing with a bonus finale event in-game on the 27th August.
The dates for the in-person live events are as follows:
Friday, July 1, 2022, to Sunday, July 3, 2022: Berlin, Germany
Friday, July 22, to Sunday, July 24, 2022: Seattle, WA, USA
Friday, August 5, 2022, to Sunday, August 7, 2022: Sapporo, Japan
In 2019, the same three countries also played host to the last in-person Pokémon Go Fest events, with the global pandemic forcing the last two years’ Go Fests to take place entirely virtually within the game itself.
This marks another major swing back to ‘normality’ for the game as Western Countries move to relax restrictions, despite continuing high levels of COVID-19 cases. Over recent months, Niantic have come under fire from fans for not only acting as if the pandemic is suddenly over, but also for reversing changes made over the past two years that made the game more accessible to people who through disability or other circumstances were otherwise unable to play and participate.
No further details have been announced as to what these Go Fest events might comprise, but last year’s offered several unique Pokémon, special trade bonuses and global community research tasks throughout its 2-day in-game event.
