I've been a Pokémon fan since 1999, when the show aired its inaugural season. At that time, Veronica Taylor provided the voices of Ash Ketchum and his mother Delia, Eric Stuart voiced Brock and Team Rocket's James, and the late Maddie Blaustein provided the voice of Meowth. When I played Pokémon Blue for Game Boy, I didn't know which starter to pick until I got some advice and chose Squirtle. One Friday afternoon, I saw a neat way to get enough Rare Candies to get Squirtle to evolve into Blastoise. I had to talk to the old man that was blocking the path that led to Viridian Forest about catching a wild Pokémon, use a Flying-type Pokémon to get to Cinnabar Island, use a Water-type Pokémon to surf along the east coast, and (making sure that a Rare Candy item was in the sixth slot) look for a Pokémon named 'M' (whose sprite is nothing but scrambled pixels). I had to either make it faint or run away from it, because if you caught it your HoF would get messed up and the game would crash thus erasing your save data forcing you to start a new game.
