Bellibolt was first teased in an In-Universe web show ‘Iono Zone’ on the 12th October 2022. Hosted by the Paldean Gym Leader Iono, she described Bellibolt’s features and asked viewers to guess what kind of Pokémon her partner was. On Friday the 14th October, Iono returned to reveal Bellibolt fully.

Bellibolt’s apparent eyes on the side of it’s body are actually false eyes, potentially inspired by the Cuyuba dwarf frog. Instead, it’s actual eyes are the two yellow dots above it’s mouth. It expands and contracts it’s large “squishy” body like a dynamo to generate electricity. It is said to be difficult to train Bellibolt to initiate a battle without it being attacked first – potentially making it a poor partner for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s Let’s Go feature.

After the sun sets, you can hear strange noises coming from Bellibolt’s habitat. This noise is not Bellibolt’s cries, but a sound emitting from their stomachs–it is known that this sound signals that they are hungry.​

Bellibolt’s Ability, Electromorphosis, is a new Ability appearing for the first time in these titles. Bellibolt becomes charged when hit by an attack, boosting the power of the next Electric-type move it uses.
