Ramblings before Alaska

by Your-Friday-Filet

Your-Friday-Filet Let's just get right into it. Though this might be very confusing to read.
You see long ago, I didn't reside here in these 48 contiguous states, but in the frigid hellscape of the Last Frontier with all of my "amazing" relatives. So my parents decided to do the rational thing of moving to Sconnie of all places. I don't remember much from Alaska, seeing as we moved when I was "3 or 4 or something". Alas, the majority of my extended family was stuck in Seward's Icebox indefinitely. You may say, oh how inconsequential, but it makes a huge impact on Christmastime. Thanksgiving is easier because it's more of a "close family" holiday for us. Last year, we didn't go to Allie because it was too expensive (prolly just my dad worried about covid at the time), but this year we're going, just tomorrow in fact.

Problems about going there include not being fond of air travel and my relatives are a pain (well just the adults). For the first part, if I remember correctly, I'm looking at a 2-3 hour drive to the airport, then a 2-3 hour flight to a transfer airport where you can have a pretty decent sleep, then another 2-3 hour flight to Lex. For some it may not seem like a lot, but every second I'm on an airplane I'm either uncomfortable, bored, or realizing I'm 40,000 feet off the surface of the Earth. Anyways, after that you're finally in this undesirable place. Then, a 3 hour drive down to my uncle's house, where everyone meets up. It's 11PM for you, but 8PM for the rest of the "World". You have a well-deserved sleep before having to deal with the onslaught of relatives marvelling that you've grown 1/3 inch or something. Most of my cousins are around my age, which is good, but they are less rational than me by a lot. Since my uncle's is a pretty expansive property, it is easy to get involved in my cousin's hi-jinks. Actually, I'm looking forward to this the more I type. Anyways, it's not very cold in Alaska, the southern bit at least. Bye for now I guess.
