Pokemon World KZ025: Krista: 2 Shocking Developments!

Having received her first Pokemon from Professor Oak, a newly caught Pikachu, Krista left the comforts of her hometown. As she climbed the dirt path leaving Pallet Town, looking back at the town she had called home for her whole life, now prepared to start a brand new journey.

The trees around the dirt path blew with the wind, leaves were plucked from the summer’s breeze, dancing through the air and twirling above Krista’s head. The young trainer had a Pokeball in hand, tossing it up and catching it over and over as she had a booklet in her other hand. A final parting gift from her mother was a map of the land, the region with more detailed routes on where to go. Krista’s mom had taken the initiative to draw out the different locations and paths that Krista should take, starting with heading to Viridian City from Pallet Town. Krista kicked up some dust as she played with Pikachu’s Pokeball some more.

‘I should really start thinking about catching more Pokemon,’ Krista thought as she looked around. Out of the foliage Krista saw a bit of rustling through some tall grass, a curled purple tail sticking out above it all.

There’s one,’ Krista grinned as she clenched the Pokeball, “Pikachu let’s go!” Krista called as she threw the ball forward. The metal ball clattered against the ground opening as the white energy formed into a very confused Pikachu.

“Pikachu, there’s a Pokemon in that tall grass!” Krista shouted.

Pikachu, still confused, just looked at Krista and waved happily.

“Uh. Yeah, hi!” Krista waved back awkwardly, “Now attack!”

Pikachu just continued to wave happily.

Seeing the purple tail starting to turn Krista grabbed her Pokedex, “Come on, what am I doing wrong?!” she panicked tapping a bunch of buttons before finally the dex responded.

In order to battle a Pokemon a trainer must give orders of attacks to their Pokemon.’ the dex informed.

“Right orders!” Krista clicked and scanned Pikachu again, seeing what attacks Pikachu could know, “Pikachu Growl!”

Pikachu suddenly became focused and nodded, it looked at the purple tail and sucked in some air. Pikachu then gave a loud shout, visible sound waves erupting from its mouth. These waves traveled, blowing the grass away for Krista to see the Pokemon.

It was a small, quadrupedal rodent Pokémon. It has purple fur with a cream-colored face, paws, and underbelly. It has narrow eyes containing white sclera and pupil with red irises, rounded ears with cream-colored insides, and a single whisker on each cheek. Its long tail is tightly curled at the end. Most notably though were its large teeth in the front.

Immediately Krista pointed her Pokedex at the Pokemon, ‘Rattata, the Mouse Pokemon. A Normal Type. Rattata will chew on anything with its fangs. If you see one, it is certain that 40 more live in the area.

“Cool!” Krista smiled, “Pikachu keep going, use your Quick Attack next!”

Pikachu stood on its paws, a white energy surrounding it as it pushed off its back legs and began dashing. Bam. Pikachu collided with the Rattata head on sending the small mouse back.

“Great, now let’s keep going with Thundershock!” Krista called out. Pikachu jumped back. Puffing its chest Pikachu gave a loud cry as it strained but only a few sparks came from its cheeks.

“...” Krista just stared. ‘That was a Thundershock?’ was all she could think of as she looked on in her own shock. Pikachu slowly opened one eye, shocked as it saw Rattata getting back up and shaking off the collision it had with Pikachu. Rattata sprinted at Pikachu, hitting its chest and pushing Pikachu down.

Pikachu fell back. Krista ran over.

“Pikachu are you okay?” Krista asked as she knelt down. Glancing up she saw the Rattata shaking, turning to leave. “Hey wait!” Krista called out as she reached into her pocket and grabbed a Pokeball out, “Okay catching a Pokemon, just have to throw this!” Krista called out as she reeled her hand back. Just then Pikachu jumped up. Shaking as it looked at the Rattata. Pikachu sucked in air as it gave another loud shout at Rattata, unfortunately with Krista so close she let go of the Pokeball to cover her ears. The metal ball fell down and hit Pikachu with a loud CLUNK! Pikachu falling back in from the hit on the head.

After recovering from a hit on the head and ringing ear drums Krista and Pikachu found themselves under a tree. “I think my hearing is coming back,” Krista mumbled as she made a small snap with her fingers near her ear. Pikachu was nestled into Krista’s lap, its ears lowered and sighing.

“Pikachu,” Krista spoke up, “Why didn’t you use Thundershock like I asked?”

Pikachu just gave a heavy sigh as its tail flicked back and forth. Krista raised an eyebrow as she watched Pikachu’s tail flicking back and forth. Krista slowly moved her hand over to Pikachu’s tail cautiously, she nervously opened her hand around the tail. Finally, she quickly grabbed and pulled on Pikachu’s tail. Pikachu winced in pain as its head shot up. It gave out a loud strain as sparks emitted from its cheeks, after a second Pikachu leaned forward, baring its small sharp teeth and biting into Krista’s arm. “Ow!” Krista winced.

Pikachu jumped from Krista’s lap. Angrily growling at her as it stomped it’s foot. Krista just smiled, wincing as she rubbed the bite mark on her arm, “Well, no one can say you don’t have a strong bite!” Krista smiled.

Pikachu paused. Confused by Krista's intentions, it got closer. Krista just smiled and extended a hand to Pikachu, softly rubbing its head, “Sorry about that,” Krista apologized, “I was wondering why you didn’t just shock me there.”

Pikachu’s face went red as it just pouted and looked away.

“Pikachu,” Krista smiled, “Can you not use your electricity?”

Pikachu just shook its head, pretending to not hear her.

Krista just took out the Pokedex again, opening data on Pikachu. With the press of a button the Pokedex’s speakers turned on, ‘When several Pikachu gather, their electricity could build and cause lightning storms.’

Krista’s expression changed to a more empathetic one, “You know, there’s some things I can’t do that a lot of humans can do.”

Pikachu shook its head, leering at Krista as its cheeks sparkled a little. It grunted and strained. After a few strains Krista grabbed Pikachu in a hug. Krista quietly wrapped her arms around the small yellow body as Pikachu welled up with tears in its eyes. It kept trying but all Krista felt was the equivalence of a static shock. “Pikachu it's okay if you can’t do something, I’m not going to think of you less or anything.”

Pikachu just struggled, reaching and biting Krista’s ear.

“OW!” Krista grabbed her ear. The look of empathy becoming one of anger, “What was that for?!”

Pikachu just leered and turned running off into the grass.

“Pikachu wait!” Krista called out, Pikachu paused, using its tail to slap the Pokeball that missed Rattata, this time it collided with Krista’s face. The hit caused Krista to wince for one important second as when she looked Pikachu was gone.

“Pikachu?” Krista muttered under her breath as she grabbed the ball off the ground.

Krista, after gathering her stuff, ran off in the direction Pikachu had left. “Pikachu!” Krista called out almost every second. She kept running and running, no clue where she was going, all that she could think of was Pikachu running off. The day turned into evening and the sky became a dark orange. Finally the sun set, Krista was still running, crying out to her Pokemon, “Pikachu! Where are you?!” she called out. Krista then saw a glow in the distance and began hopefully running to it screaming out, “Pikachu! Pikachu!”

As Krista got closer her hope died down, all she saw was a tent and a lit campfire. Near the fire was a bipedal Pokémon that was primarily yellow. Its face was kite-shaped with a small, pale yellow snout and two short, pointed ears with pale yellow interiors. Its wide eyes closed. Its body was segmented with black skin visible between its joints and along its neck. It had two brown, pauldron-shaped extensions on its shoulders, as well as a brown, fauld-like piece around its chest. It had three digits on each hand and foot, but its fingers were considerably shorter than its toes. Two of its toes faced forward and one faced backward. Its tail was thick and long, with a brown band located near the tip.

Curious, Krista took out her Pokedex, ‘Abra, the Psi Pokemon. A Psychic Type. Using its ability to read minds, it will identify impending danger and Teleport to safety.’

“Abra, get ready I’ve got food ready to go,” a voice said as from the tent a girl stepped out. She had long black hair, a purple jacket and blue track pants with black boots. The girl paused as she looked at Krista who was in a daze for a second. Awkwardly the girl set a can of food down, “Oh, look someone’s here.”

Krista snapped back, “Uh, Krista, I’m Krista.”

“I’m, Jade,” the girl shrugged as she tossed a stick into her campfire.

“Hey, uh, this might sound pointless but, did a Pikachu come running through here?” Krista asked.

Jade just shook her head and shrugged.

“Right, I kind of guessed so,” Krista sighed, sitting on a log.

Jade just looked at her Abra before going to the can of food. She grabbed a can opener from a nearby backpack and slowly began opening as she looked over her shoulder to see Krista just sitting there still. Jade gave a quiet groan as she shook her head.

“Heads up.”

Krista saw a can fly to her head, she grabbed it as Jade walked over and handed her the can opener and fork, “Oh, thanks.”

“Yeah no, don’t mention it,” Jade muttered as she took out a small foldable chair. Sitting Jade began eating, “So why are you looking for Pikachu? Gonna catch one?”

“Catch one? No I just,” Krista grunted struggling with the can opener, “Just, just. Sorry just a second.”

“For crying out loud,” Jade groaned as she stuffed some fruit in her mouth. Jade got up, trading their cans.

“Thanks.”

“You say that a lot,” Jade muttered, quickly powering through opening the second can, “So, you were saying.”

“Right, Pikachu is actually my Pokemon. I just got it this morning, I think it's embarrassed,” Krista explained.

“Embarrassed?”

“Yeah. We had a battle with a wild Rattata and I commanded Pikachu to use Thundershock but it couldn’t. I tried to tell it after that it was fine if it couldn’t do something,” Krista explained.

Jade’s can dropped as she stood up, “You idiot!”

Krista nearly fell from the tone shift in Jade, “What?”

“I said, you’re an idiot,” Jade explained, “You really think Pikachu’s upset because it thinks it failed you? How do you think Pikachu felt after you drilled home what it couldn’t do that a million other Pikachu can do! Especially when that was your first battle.”

“Pikachu wouldn’t, no it.” Krista paused with her eyes getting watery.

“Pokemon have feelings too, and they’re no different than the feelings we humans get. Though with how you act no one’s probably ever drilled into you about how you couldn’t do something!”

“SHUT UP!” Krista yelled as she stood up. Tears were now streaming down her face, “Pikachu…”

Krista fell to her knees, crying as she hit the ground with her fists. Jade clenched her fists as she just turned to go to her tent.

Krista got up and wiped the tears from her eyes, turning and taking off in a random direction. She had no clue where she was running, all she knew was she had to fix this, “Pikachu!” she shouted into the darkness.

Krista kept running for what felt like forever, as she kept running as dark clouds rolled in. The rumbling of thunder was followed by brief flashes of light and cold rain pouring down. Still Krista kept running, her clothes becoming drenched and clinging to her body as she kept crying out into the storm for Pikachu. Finally Krista slipped on the wet ground, flying down against the mud, her legs exhausted, unable to carry her any further. Krista’s tears streamed down and washed by the rain as her arms shook to lift herself. Krista gave into her despair, the chances of finding Pikachu were null, she had ruined her own journey.

Krista laid on the ground quietly, giving in, clenching her fist. As she closed her eyes there was a sudden brightness. Krista opened her eyes hopefully and looked up.

Looking up Krista saw Jade. She was standing with her Abra under an umbrella, only noticeable by the brief flashes of light that illuminated them both. Jade held out a hand to Krista who gratefully took it and got up.

“You’ve got to be one of the dumbest trainers alive,” Jade stated, looking at the mud drenched over Krista’s clothes.

Krista frowned and wiped the mud off of her face, “Why are you here?”

“You made a mistake with your Pokemon,” Jade stated. Jade quietly just nodded her head, letting her words sink into Krista for a bit. Krista frowned looking down before Jade continued, “You made a mistake, and that should be yours to fix, but you’re never going to find your Pikachu on foot, especially not if you freeze to death.”

Krista went quiet again as she looked up.

Jade gestured to her Abra, “My Abra might be able to teleport you to wherever your Pikachu is, if you focus on it enough.”

Krista nodded, “Thank you Jade.” Krista walked over to Abra and held out her muddied hand. Abra began levitating as it took her hand. Krista took a deep breath, focusing on the feeling of getting her first Pokemon, focusing on Pikachu, and most importantly the remorse of what she did. Abra’s eyes flashed a bright blue as Krista felt a rush to her head.

Opening her eyes Krista was in front of a cliffside. She looked and saw a flock of avian Pokémon that were very small. They had rough, brown plumage on their heads and three brown tail feathers each. They had narrow, dark brown eyes with white pupils and short, hooked beaks that were light pink. The feathers covering their wings are pinkish-red with lighter tips, and they each had a beige underside with two thin, horizontal stripes. They had light pink feet with two toes in front and one in the back. Black feathers cover their backs. Krista recognized them as Spearow. Facing the flock, and near the edge of the cliff was Pikachu.

“Pikachu!” Krista cried out. Pikachu’s ears perked as it looked over to see Krista. Its eyes narrowed as it ignored her, its cheeks were sparkling with electricity. Pikachu had no interest in its rude trainer, until it heard Krista call out, “Pikachu I’m sorry!”

“Pikachu I’m sorry for what I said!” Krista called out, “It was wrong of me to focus on,” Krista paused as she searched for the words. She wanted to express her regret, and after a bit of searching she knew now how Pikachu felt, “It was wrong of me to just say you couldn’t do something!”

Pikachu’s ears twitched as it looked at Krista.

“I know what it’s like to get told over and over how you can’t do or be something, and all you want is someone in your corner, someone who will lift you up rather than put you down!”

Pikachu’s angered expression softened.

“I got too focused on myself, and for that I’m sorry! But Pikachu if you let me, I’ll be that someone in your corner! I know you’re a strong Pokemon! Let’s reach the top together!”

Pikachu smiled as it looked to Krista with a big happy smile. However there was still the problem of the flock of Spearow. Krista went running through the flock to Pikachu’s side and smiled.

“I’m going to become champion and right here we start!” Krista smiled, “Pikachu use Growl!”

Pikachu let out a loud growl, the sound waves erupting out, blowing droplet of water and pushing a few Spearow back.

“Now Quick Attack!” Krista shouted.

Pikachu jumped at a crowd, hitting about three Spearow. The Spearow retaliated by flapping their wings, a powerful gust of wind pushed Pikachu into the mud, nearly knocking Krista down, “Now Pikachu, Thundershock!” Krista called out. Pikachu gave a loud cry as it shook off the mud, straining as its cheeks crackled a bit but still nothing. Pikachu growled as it slapped its tail against the ground.

“Pikachu,” Krista had a momentary look of sadness before shaking that off, “Try again, I know you can do it!”

Pikachu looked back and smiled, giving out a loud cry to the skies as they crackled with electricity. For a second Krista looked up and saw a dark figure moving through the clouds with electricity following it. A blast of blinding lightning came down, striking Pikachu who smiled. Once the lightning disappeared Pikachu’s body was crackling with electricity and energy. Pikachu smiled at Krista.

“You sure?” Krista asked, Pikachu just nodded, “Okay then, let’s go Pikachu, Thundershock!”

Pikachu’s body crackled as its cheeks glowed a bright yellow, a bolt of yellow lightning flew off and struck one Spearow. It shook off as Pikachu fired four more. The Spearow panicked as they flew off, Pikachu firing off a few more bolts for good measure.

The next morning, after the rain had cleared. Krista smiled, having spent the night in a nearby cave. She smiled at Pikachu who grinned back, both of them muddied but happy.

“Partners?” Krista asked as she offered a fist bump to Pikachu. Pikachu smiled as it placed its paw on the end with a happy, “Pika!”
