It has been announced this week that the 2020 Pokémon World Championships have been cancelled.

Play! Pokémon events had previously been cancelled up until May due to ongoing concerns regarding Coronavirus, so perhaps it comes as no surprise that this has unfortunately extended to all events up to and including the World Championships themselves.

The World Championships were due to be held in London this year. Play! Pokémon have confirmed that the event will be held in London in 2021 instead and any championship points earned by players so far will roll over to the 2021 season of events.

It's that time again! Pokécharms is 17 years old as of today, which means that next year it'll officially be old enough to vote. Considering that most of the staff have been here at least a decade, I'm not sure whether that makes us dinosaurs, or fossils. (I could cope with being a cute little Bulbasaur, but I'd rather not be a broken Dracovish, thankyouverymuch!)

It's a strange time that I find myself writing this, what with the novel coronavirus COVID-19 becoming a pandemic around the world. Here in the UK, many workplaces are switching to remote working only. My university has already shut for taught course students, and the labs will be closing for research students on Friday. So a lot of us are finding ourselves having to adapt to sudden enforced lifestyle changes, which means we're all stressed and rather short of energy. Hence we don't have any fantastic new artwork to share with you.

So I thought I'd write a review of the past year as seen here on Pokécharms.

The first... excitement of the year...

This Mythical Pokémon lives in a pack deep in the dense forests of Galar. It treats anyone that isn’t part of its pack with immediate hostility....

Home_Pokedex_EN_05.jpg
For the first time you'll now be able to complete your full 890-strong National Pokédex - but with a small catch: you'll have to do it in the new Pokémon HOME app instead of an actual game.

Pokémon HOME launched overnight and consists of two different apps - one for your Nintendo Switch and one for your Android or Apple smartphone. Both apps allow you to search and view your entire Pokémon collection - once they've been imported into HOME's boxes - but they otherwise have pretty different functionality.

On the Nintendo Switch, you'll be able to transfer Pokémon from the Switch games, Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee and Sword/Shield into HOME, as well as organise your up to 200 Pokémon boxes. You can then also retrieve those Pokémon from HOME and return them to those games - but with a few specific catches:

  • Pokémon transferred from the Let's Go games can not be transferred back to the Let's Go games once they've been sent to...

It has been announced that the latest Pokémon movie, Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, will be released exclusively on Netflix worldwide on February 27th.

The film is a 3D CG remake of Pokémon: The First Movie and has met a mixed reception among fans. A trailer for the movie can be seen above and showcases the English dub. The 27th of February also happens to be Pokémon Day, which makes this a nice treat for those looking to celebrate.
Pokémon Direct - 09.01.2020 16-23 screenshot copy.jpg

Today's Pokémon Direct revealed the very first DLC expansion pass for a Pokémon game. Abandoning the long-running tradition of 'updated' or 'third' game releases such as Yellow, Crystal, Black 2/White 2, Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon for 2 expansion packs for your existing Pokémon Sword and Shield saves.

Available as the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass for £26.99 each, the two DLC packs will feature slight differences depending on which game you have, such as the Pokémon available within them.

The first pack, The Isle of Armor will see players visiting an island inspired by the Isle of Man, just off the coast of the UK. This large island is full of environments not seen elsewhere in Galar, including wave-swept beaches, forests, bogs, caves and sand dunes. Over 100 returning Pokémon such as the Talonflame, Lycanroc and Kingdra lines can be found in this area -...
