Day 5
The Pewter City Museum looms before me, larger than life. I exhale, then enter slowly.
The lady at the desk is grooming herself and doesn't seem to notice when I enter. The first floor is filled with strange-shaped rocks, which must be fossils. An old man is viewing them. An ampibom sits on the man's shoulder, staring intently at the rock in the display case, imitating it's trainer.
I pretend to be interested in the fossil that the man is looking at. Big mistake. "Are you interested in fossils, young man?" he asks me. I have no way out of the conversation.
"I guess?" I answer, not quite truthfully.
"That's the best answer I've heard all day! I'd like you to have this!"
The sudden kindness of the man seems strange, until I see that what he's giving me is another rock, this one covered in mud. I look at it with disgust.
"That's a fossil!" the man explains when he sees my face. "Not nearly as valuable as the ones displayed in the museum, but exciting nonetheless! I'll let you have it if you promise to take it to the lab on Cinnabar Island."
I agree without a word and take the fossil from him. What am I going to do with this? I stuff the fossil deep in my backpack, hoping that I'll never see it again.
I decide to explore upstairs, hoping to find something interesting. I do. Models of various, ships, submarines, and other vehicles are on display. In the center of the room, I see three things that amaze me. First of all, a real submarine is displayed in a massive display case. Second of all, a model of the rocket that I recognize as being the one in Mossdeep, Hoenn, stands tall and elegant. Third, I see Lenny.
"Hey! Greeny!" he calls out to me. "Have you challenged Will yet?"
I stomp towards him and nod my head. "You must be up to standards, then!" he tells me. I wonder what he means by "standards" for a second, but I don't waste my time thinking about things that Lenny has to say. "So, I guess you wanna battle!"
My first thought is, A battle in the middle of a museum?! The staff would go nuts! Then I remember that the staff don't exactly do their jobs very well. My second thought is that, no, I don't want to battle. However, it looks like it's too late to turn back now! "Go, Weedle!"
"Face the new member of my team, Geodude!" Lenny said.
"Victory is mine again, Greeny! You better train some more!" Lenny laughed as he walked back down the stairs to the lobby. I was even more infuriated than before.
In order to calm myself down, I walk over to the submarine and read the plaque.

Not much history was given about it, so I decided to leave. Next stop would Route 3, followed by Mt. Moon. But I was ready.
As I entered Route 3, I noticed instantly that it was crowded with trainers wanting to battle. I avoided most of them, until I was stopped by a youngster.
"I'm Joey, and I want to battle!" His voice was annoying, but in a nice way, if that's possible. "I see you're wearing shorts!"
"Why is that important?" I ask him.
"I'll tell you if you win!" he says even more annoyingly. After a swift battle, I beat him. It doesn't seem like an accomplishment though, not after the battle with Lenny.
I'm about to walk away when I remember to ask him about the shorts. "So why are the shorts important?" I ask.
"Because I like shorts!" he replies. "They're comfy and easy to wear!"
I'm still thinking about this when I get to the entrance of Mt. Moon. I finally decide that I like shorts, too.
