"Zen's Almost-Ordinary Pokemon Adventure" Ch. 1

by Zen the Fen

Zen the Fen Zen is a 14-year-old teen finally starting his own Pokemon adventure after years of being late for the Pokemon starter giveaways. His actual name is Rusty Leafen, but he got the nickname "Zen" when he was tackled at the young age of 10 by a confused Tauros using Zen Headbutt. Of course, he was alright; he only had a minor case of fatigue for a few days. After his dad got a new job when Zen was only 8, they had to move from Sinnoh all the way to a new region now known as the Tipal region.

After a long day of moving again because of some issues, Zen and the family have finally arrived in the sweet town of Old Mill. It wasn't until the day of Pokemon starter giveaways, which was tomorrow, that Zen realized that it was his chance to finally get his own Pokemon. However, here in the Tipal region, some things work differently than other places.
"Ha ha, is he going to cry?"
"Ha ha ha, he totally is! Look at him!"
"Oh my gosh, what a loser!"
"...what a loser!"
"...what a loser!"

...what loser?

"Gah!" Zen exclaimed, sitting up in his bed, panting. He had woken up from a nightmare about his past. He looked over at his clock on his nightstand beside him. It said it was 8:00 AM. His dad would be gone at work by now, while his mom would be sleeping in. Now that Zen was awake, and still a little shaken up from the small fright, it would be more difficult for him to get back to sleep. Despite his eyes being tired, he got up to get his clothes, and do the usual morning things. That is, before he fell back onto his bed. "Ngh, nope. Too tired..." He mumbled to himself, putting his face in his blanket, which helps when it comes to resting your eyes.

What felt like 10 minutes was really 30 minutes. After a little while longer, he decided that enough was enough. He finally got up, got his clothes and set them on his bed. He went into the restroom to "freshen up", if you know what I mean, which hopefully you do. After taking his shower, he made his way back to his room, dried off, blow dried his hair, brushed it, basically made himself look presentable because today was the day that he could finally get his very own Pokemon!

Luckily for him, the Pokemon were being given out in the very town he lived in, Old Mill Town. Professor Cherry would be handing them out to the many kids arriving from other towns for a Pokemon. The opening time was 11:00 AM, and the time now was 9:20 AM, so he had a little time to spare, but he wanted to get there before most kids did so that he could guarantee himself a Pokemon. His mother usually didn't wake up until about 10:00 AM, so he decided to leave her a note. However, that thought was interrupted when his stomach spoke up. He still had to eat breakfast, and with no one else awake in the house to prepare it for him, he had to go with what he knew how to prepare: bagels.

Admittedly, bagels weren't his favorite food, but he figured that if he was going to be waiting quite a while, he'd need the energy to remain standing, and awake. He put his clothes on, headed to the kitchen pantry, and got out the bag of bagels. He popped one in the toaster, which took about 5 minutes to toast. He spread some cream cheese on it - Oran berry was his favorite. He finished the note for his mom, and put it on her dresser mirror. Finally, with his bagel in hand, and a water bottle in the other, he headed for the Professor's lab.

That is what would have happened then if he hadn't forgotten his bag, which he had to go back and get.

Upon arriving to the Professor's lab, which was only half a mile away from his house, he frowned at the sight of many other kids gathered around the building. "Well, so much for getting here early." He thought to himself. Zen had already started getting bored, and it was only 9:30 AM. This was going to be a long morning.
