Yu-Gi-Oh! Adventures In Duel Academy: Yu-Gi-Oh! Adventures In Duel Academy Episode 2: Stall and Steel

by Generation Sect

Generation Sect Seth struggles to keep himself in the duel, while buying his time to seize the victory.
"Battle Phase!"
Both of the teacher's colossal machines whirred into motion. "Luckily for you, Stronghold is summoned in Defense position, so you get a turn before he attacks. But I still have four more monsters! I'll send my Green Gadget to destroy your Sentinel!" The green machine burst from it's position in Stronghold's chest, striking the Steelswarm Sentinel, destroying it and inflicting 300 damage to Seth's life points. Seth shrugged the small stinging pain off. Green Gadget then returned to it's position. "Now, Boot-Up Soldier - Dread Dynamo, attack the facedown!" It crushed the hidden Steelswarm Gatekeeper, who it was just 100 Attack points over. "Now, Red and Yellow Gadgets! Attack him directly!" The two machines together packed quite a punch, Seth gritting his teeth through the 2500 damage attack combo. Now, he only had 1200 lifepoints left. "Now, I'll end my turn. It's nearly over already, surprising." Seth knew he had to make his move soon. He drew a card, smiling. He had found a way to keep fighting. "First, since I control no monsters, I sphecial summon Steelswarm Cell from my hand! Now, I set a monster facedown. Finally, I activate my trap! Steelswarm Ripples! By paying 500 Lifepoints, I can revive my Steelswarm Gatekeeper! Now he had only 700 life points, but three monsters in Defense position. "I end my turn."

The teacher drew a card, scoffing. "Useless. I guess i just change Stronghold The Moving Fortress to attack mode, and battle. First, Dread Dynamo destroys your Gatekeeper again! Now, Yellow Gadget can destroy the Steelswarm Cell!" He couldn't keep this up much longer. "To be safe, Stronghold will crush your final monster!" Suddenly, out of the chaos of the attack, jumped a Mystic Tomato, popping under the pressure, only to form into another one. "See, Mystic Tomato allows me to summon a Dark monster from my deck in attack position when it's destroyed by battle! So I replaced it, and it's just strong enough to resist your last two Gadgets!" The teacher growled, ending his turn. "Well, it'll be over next turn." Seth knew he was right. He just needed the right card...

"I draw!" He looked at his card, laughing loudly. "What are you laughing about?" "Well, I'm about to make my comeback. Remember that Steelswarm Scout I sent to the Graveyard earlier? See, at the start of my Main Phase 1, if I control no spells or traps, I can special summon him, but I can't Special summon for the turn. But that doesn't matter now! It may be a level 7, but I can Tribute summon it with just 1 Steelswarm monster! By sacrificing my Steelswarm Scout, I Tribute summon the blasting bombardment that I need to defeat your Stronghold! Steelswarm Girastag!" The huge, spiky, black, insect like creature emerged from the light blue fires of the Tribute summon, charging orange energy in one hand, the other hand being a large cannon. "When I Tribute a Steelswarm monster to Tribute summon this card, I can send one card you control to the Graveyard, and gain 1000 lifepoints!" He smiled, the refreshing feeling of his lifepoints returning to 1700 healing him. Stronghold the Moving Fortress was annihilated by Girastag's Cannon Flare Blast, which was fuelled by the energy he was charging in his palm. "Now, battle time! Girastag has 2800 attack points, so he can beat your Dread Dynamo!" Another Cannon Flare Blast destroyed the rusty machine, the teacher feeling the edges of the flames, recoiling from the 800 points of damage. "Now, Mystic Tomato, destroy Green Gadget!" The two monsters destroyed each other in battle, but Mystic Tomato just spawned a third version of itself. "Finally, my new Tomato can destroy your Yellow Gadget, dealing 200 points of damage to you!" The teacher now only had Red Gadget and his 3000 lifepoints. "I end my turn!" Seth was now feeling far more confident.

The teacher drew a card, smiling. "I set a card facedown in my spell and Trap zone, and end my turn."
Seth was surprised. Why would he not change the Battle position of Green Gadget? He drew a card. "I'll summon the Steelswarm Sting I just drew in Attack position!" The metallic humanoid wasp with 1850 Attack points buzzed into battle, as Seth's monsters prepared to attack. He noticed the Teacher had a terrified look on his face. "No... no... it's just enough? How?" He didn't get what he was talking about, but attacked anyway. "Girastag, Cannon Flare Blast!" The Teacher flipped his final trap card. "Blazing Mirror Force." He spoke solemnly. "When you attack, I destroy all your attack position monsters, and we both take damage equal to half their combined attack." A look of surprise dawned on Seth's face as he did the math. "1400... 2100 ... 3025!" Thanks to Sting, the damage would just be enough to put the teacher out of the game as well!" Girastag's Burning Cannon Flare Blast hit the blue shield, causing a burning supernova of flames to engulf both of them, as their life points simultaneously fell to zero. Seth pulled himself up off the floor, seeing the Teacher also charred and rather shocked. "Congratulations. You managed to dodge certain defeat twice, and you nearly had me beat one time. You'll make a fine Duel Academy student." Instead of offering a handshake, he just left through the door on his side of the chamber. Seth shook the ash off himself, and did the same, heading to his first class. He hoped to have more hard duels like this, to be challenged for once in his dueling career. Although, if he never had to experience a burning explosion again he wouldn't complain.
