Writing Prompts: Writing Prompts: 21

by RenzFlintrock

RenzFlintrock My prompt responding challenge on the other site didn't have a prompt today, so I found another:

The two faced each other, separated by a few feet. “Why did you do it?” The first asked.
The second adjusted his white coat. “Because I felt the need to mater to the world.”
The two faced each other, separated by a few feet. “why did you do it?” the skeleton asked.
I adjusted my white coat, the one given to me by this same skeleton when first met in Snowdin forest. I had been so cold, and he had befriended me. And then I killed his brother. I felt a lump in my throat as I tried to respond.

“Because wanted to matter to the world.”

I didn't know why the words left my mouth. They weren't really true.... not really. I was curious. I wanted to see what would happen. And now, here we were, standing face to face. His eye sockets seemed empty, even though small white lights usually glowed within. His jacket swayed gently, even though there was no breeze, and his grin seemed forced. His voice was almost broken as he spoke once more.

"do you... do you think everyone deserves a second chance? that even the worst person can change? do you think that you can just walk away, leaving us all to mourn...?"

He looked at the ground.

"here's a better question, kid. do you wanna have a bad time...? because it's time to pay for what you did."

Before I could blink, the world had faded and the glowing heart showed in my chest. I knew an attack was coming, but I wasn't prepared for what came next. I had survived more fights than I could count, and had so many close shaves it would have dulled any razor, but this was beyond anything I had experienced. A wave of sharp bones rolled out of the ground and down from the ceiling, and one slashed open my arm as I jumped over. I landed in a crouch and instinctively clutched at my arm, but almost as soon as I touched the ground I was forced to roll to the side. I felt the stinging energy pass close by, fired from the draconic looking skull that had just appeared in front of me. The next blast caught me full force, though, and my whole body burned as I was blasted back. I crashed into a pillar, and I my back felt like it was broken. I forced myself halfway up, cringing from the pain. Sans was right. I was paying for my mistake.
