Chunky Ramen Again, this is just a rough draft, One that I'll be revising every now and then. The next few chapters, considering I do them, will consist entirely of finishing the basic world-building.

Chapter 002: Absolute ZERO.

A man who went by the nickname of Ryu stepped out of a car and walked towards the scene. Unlike everyone else, he didn’t wear anything even remotely close to the standard ATK uniforms. He wore grey combat boots, extremely baggy jeans, a heavily wrinkled white dress shirt, and a leather jacket that was a little small, going halfway up his forearms and not going more than a few inches below his chest. (reference The Survey Corps’ jackets.) He had extremely wavy light brown hair, and two pieces that hung off the end that were naturally maroon red. His eyes were a cold gray, and he had an eyepatch over his left eye. He didn’t seem even mildly scared, in fact, he was more concerned about what he would eat when he got back to his apartment.

Ryu stepped into the alleyway and drew one of his two blades. This one had a trapezoid-shaped blade and a handguard that curved all the way back to the grip. He pressed a button on the guard and his blade began to emit a neon color. Depending on your eyes, it might look different. To some, it was the brightest white you’d ever seen, and to others, it was an almost magenta color, probably because of the masks they were wearing. This was an Ultraviolet Light Blade (the soldiers commonly refer to them as bulbs), the only thing that could slay a Berserk. This one was unlike the usual standard-use bulbs, as it was dual-wielding and was thicker around the handle, compared to a single, thin blade.

Ryu drew his second sword and pressed the same button. He raised his sword in an X and cut. He made a perfect V shape, removing the head and neck. This was the only way to correctly kill a Berserk, removing its head and the organ that emitted the spikes, which hadn’t quite been studied yet, as it usually evaporated shortly after being removed.

“There, it’s dead, now get the body out of here. Command’ll get pissed if they find out about our situation.” Ryu said, pointing at the limp body that was Mathias. He would seem to be dead to most anybody, being so cut up and pale, his blood painting the alleyways.

And yet…

Mathias was merely unconscious, as pointed out once the van arrived. They took him to the New Saitama District Public Hospital (Usually called “the hospital”, because it was the only one in Neo-Tokyo’s area, considering it was a small circle with a diameter of 5 miles. Outside the walls of Tokyo, New Chicago was to the left, and New Berlin to the right. This was the remaining land that was “safe” for humanity. A chunk of a flattened mountain in the middle of a large crater. What was under them, God knows. All they knew is that only a few hundred thousand humans were left, and about 13,000 (to be exact 12,695) people were going beyond that chunk of rock each day and trying to fight the Umbras. They were called “Flashlights” due to their really flashy outfits, with neon stripes, varying color depending on rank, as well as their bright weapons. From one expedition, a thousand or so usually died. But humanity still had people that were willing to go for their dreams. These kinds of people never came home after their first expedition. Anyone left in the Flashlights killed their emotions and dreams. They were an elite force made to stop Umbras, not to have dreams and not to feel. They encouraged humanity to do the same, and some followed. Their influence was almost scary, but made sense, considering they ruled over the government and risked their lives daily. Surely they know what they’re doing, right?

Confidential Information, no. 1

The Umbras can vary quite a bit. The tallest one ever reported was 62 meters high. (to be exact to American standards, that’s 203 feet for us.) Humanity’s walls were made out of anything available at the time, resulting in an 11 layer wall 45 feet tall. The first layer being wood, then stone, metal, rock, titanium ( They were really stretching for this, barely two inches worth of it to cover the wall.), the again rock and metal, repeating two times. The wall was only about 3 meters thick. (12-and-a-half for us Americans.) So if you can’t tell, this Umbras gave humanity some trouble. Some are beginning to call it the Titan Umbras, which I guess could make sense, but if humanity ever finds out about our leader’s identity, we’re kinda fucked. “ (Chicago’s confidential records, file no. 003, “TU20351225D”)
