Dan is a kind boy who is sometimes picked on because of his size. When a popular trainer named Yukino who was searching for somebody stood up for him he was shocked. Eventually Dan decided to raise Pokemon himself but, not for battles. Dan raises Pokemon to show young trainers how to care for them properly. Dan usually keeps a level head and, is very rarely angered. Dan became known as the unofficial professor.
