Piper's POV
I actually felt kind of sad that we were going back to original Partners.
I mean, yeah, I’m dancing with Jason again. That was great.
Except it didn’t actually feel great.
Dancing with Jason was mostly slow-dancing, which is nice.
But with Percy it’s fast, and much more fun. And the songs were better with Percy.
And practice was nicer, too. Especially when someone falls.
If it’s with Jason, and someone falls, he uses the winds to get them up.
It’s kind of worrying when he does it. What if the winds don’t work, and he’s embarrassed?
What if the winds work, but then lift the person more and then drop them? The winds can’t always listen.
With Percy, however, you don’t have to worry. He just sits down next to you if you fall.
Just sitting next to you is a bit nicer than using the winds.
Cool power, yes. But also kind of a scary power.
If we’re singing during practice, I found out that if I mess up, Percy will mess up on
purpose.
Whereas when I mess up with Jason, he’ll just say it’s okay. And sometimes to try again.
It’s easier to laugh during Practice with Percy as your Partner.
Outside of dancing, Percy is—I never thought I’d say this—better.
He’s usually just so…sweet, and he’s actually sort-of cute.
A great sword-fighter, and an even better friend.
As I thought that, I felt something…strange.
The same feeling I had when I met Jason.
I quickly realized what that meant.
I had a crush on my best friend’s boyfriend.
I felt someone tap my shoulder.
“You okay, Piper? You just sorta stopped walking.”
I turned my head to look at him.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I just got lost in thought, I guess.”
“So lost that you stopped walking?” He asked. I heard doubt in his voice.
By now I had turned around completely, and ended up standing a bit closer to him than I wanted.
“It’s possible to, you know.”
“Probably depends on what you’re thinking about, though.”
“Probably, yes. But that doesn’t make it any less possible.”
“So what were you thinking about?”
“You.” I answered, before I could think of something else to say.
His eyes widened slightly, and I quickly took a step back.
“I mean, your dancing!” I quickly said, trying to save myself. “I was thinking about how great your dancing is. I mean, not better than Jason’s, but close to it.”
Way to lie, Piper…
He didn’t look convinced.
Neither of us said anything for a minute.
“Piper, do you…like me? Because I—“
“Let me guess, you don’t feel that way.”
“No—I mean, no, that’s not what I was going to say, not no, I don’t like you—“
“So…you do like me?”
Percy nodded slowly. “Well, I’ve been starting to, but I’m with Annabeth, and you’re with Jason—“
“But do we still have major feelings for them? Actually, do we have major feelings for each other? I mean, this could just be some temporary crush or something…”
“No, it’s not. At least, not for me. What I felt for Calypso, and Rachel…Those were temporary crushes. But this, I think…I could be in love with you. This is how I used to feel with Annabeth, but my feelings for her are kind of…dying.”
“My feelings for Jason have been, too…”
“So what do we do?”
I shrugged. “I guess…we have to try and hide this.”
He nodded quickly. “Yeah, that might be best. At least until the show is over.”
“Yeah. Well, I should get back to my room, so…Goodbye, Percy.”
“Bye, Piper.” As I walked away, I heard him doing the same.
If I could do it all over, maybe I'd do it different
Maybe I wouldn't be here, in this position
I found you, and then I lost you
Looking back is torture
And it hurts to know I let you go
You live right around the corner
And I could have had it all, could have had it all…
